Lechlade and Bushyleaze Trout Fisheries
Discover exceptional specimen fly fishing in the heart of the Cotswold countryside at Lechlade and Bushyleaze Trout Fisheries.
Two venues, one unforgettable experience. We offer great facilities, and welcomes anglers of all abilities. Embrace the opportunity to experience solitude, peace and belonging, in an ever changing natural environment, where the challenge of the hunt merges with the ageless desire to place food on the table at the end of the day. Walking over a bridge do you look to see if there are any fish in the
Despite the water temperatures being reasonable and fish well spread out and feeding, Bushyleaze will close for the summer on 1st August. Also, please note that for a variety of reasons that Lechlade will NOT be open for Day Ticket fishing this year. My apologies. We will still be doing tuition on Summerleaze.
The recent cold nights have brought the lake temperatures right down. The fish at Bushyleaze are well spread out and taking buzzers and olives. There are lots of 4 to 6 pound fish appearing. Make the most of it (especially those with vouchers) as I suspect temperatures will go up again soon and that will be it for the summer.
It can be done though, Les Thomas had this 8 pound Brownie yesterday on a nymph but it was hard work. Remember you can have an all day 2 fish Lechlade ticket and convert that to a 6 fish Bushyleaze ticket if the fish aren't playing. The cold nights recently have brought the water temperatures right down and most of the fish in Bushy are now well spread out with only a few hanging out under the trees in the wooded area.
It's a mystery! Every May the fish in Lechlade become almost unfishable yet they are there and you can see them actively feeding. Just look what happens when I throw in some pellets. Just proves they are hungry and happy. There must be something that will take them but I don't know what it is.
Another load of Exmoor fish in to Bushyleaze (and another half inch of rain to cool things down a bit....but nots so good for the potholes!)
It's end of season drain down and clean time for the Lechlade production tanks. This one gets the whole flow of the farm and we can get fish from two to ten pounds plus in a year. There were half a dozen hefty fish left lurking in there , including a Brownie about 15 pounds, and we have put them in to Bushy for a bit of fun. They would have gone in to Lechlade but we are only seeing about one angler a day on there (who are bagging up) so put them in Bushy instead, which is fishing beautifully. Don't be afraid to give Lechlade a go, there are lots of fish in there and they can be caught. Quite happy to do a £60 all day two fish ticket on there and if that fails you can convert to a six fish ticket at Bushy. PS, Bushy track should be finished tomorrow.
It will now probably rain for a week but you will be pleased to hear that after the hot weekend we finally got on to the potholes on the Bushyleaze track. About 50% done and, weather permitting, we should do the rest tomorrow. Talking of hot weather, Andreus had Lechlade lake to himself on Saturday and had three big Browns and a large Blue by lunchtime! It can be done! Bushyleaze getting a big stocking this Wednesday. Mayflys everywhere but they still prefer olives and buzzers.
Nearly finished on the Lechlade lake now. There's about 150 big Browns in there and 100 good Rainbows. It would be nice to see them out before the summer. They get hard now but are catchable. You've got to be smart and go natural, come give it a go.
Good fishing at the weekend, despite the wet and windy weather. Lechlade will stay open until at least the end of the Bank Holiday and probably beyond as there are still plenty of Browns to come out. Busshyleaze is still going crazy with Olives. Catch and Release will come to an end this weekend.
We've still got plenty of Brownies going in and the fishing is good. The cold weather helps even though it would be nice to be just a bit warmer during the day!
Yet another brilliant youngster showing us how it's done. Two great fish (one a Blue) for Josh Wilkins. Very sadly, the photo on the boat ended in heartbreak as it came off after a long fight. What a day though. Fishing was great all weekend. Lovely to see Jo Blackwell catch a PB Brown at 12 pounds too.
What a great way to spend your 14th Birthday! Jacob Edwards bagged up, topping it with this lovely Double Blue. Well done and Happy Birthday.
Great fishing on both lakes today with lots of good fish coming out. Fantastic olive hatch at Bushyleaze with fish actively taking off the top. Lots of space tomorrow if you want to come and enjoy the sun.
A good day for Peter and George Millin with a PB Brownie at 14lbs 5oz and some great Rainbows. Plenty of space this weekend and lots more big Brownies going in today.
Sorry for the lack of photos over the last couple of weeks. High winds and rain have meant we have been quiet. Things look better for the next couple of weeks so come and see out the end of this season and the challenge of using "Naturals". We are stocking as normal, if anything, more than usual as we need to clear all our stock before the temperatures go up. We still keep finding big Brownies so there are plenty more of them to go in. If you have a Lechlade voucher that needs using up I would recommend using them now as the future is very much dependant on agreeing something with the local planners to give us some reasonable income during the many summer months we are now closed because of climate change. On top of that is the spiralling cost of fish production and an impending review of water Abstraction licences which could have a catastrophic effect on what we can use, despite the fact that we only "borrow" our water, like water cress farmers. Understandably, the EA wish that all abstractors could be dealt with as one but, of course, there are many and varied water users, which has meant this has been going on for some time. Hopefully we will know by the autumn but for now it is irresponsible to invest in future works on the farm until we know exactly where we stand. We will keep you posted. Meanwhile, Bushyleaze is going crazy for dry olives and todays Lechlade anglers were bagged up by lunchtime! Hope to see you soon. There's a frost forecast tonight which is good news and the banks are drying up well now.
Always nice to see the Ospreys passing through. A bit later than usual this year, perhaps they had seen the weather forecast!
It's that time of the year when Bushyleaze really comes in to its own as a top of the water fishery. There are huge Olive hatches and the fish are quite happy taking them off the surface. We are still doing Catch and Release up there, while the temperatures stay low. Also, Lechlade Anglers, don't forget you can fish our short stretch of river now for wild brownies and, if you are very lucky, a wily grayling . All c and r on the river.
Still lots of Browns coming out (and the odd Blue too). We've probably got enough fish for another month on Lechlade. We've always got fish for Bushyleaze, just need some dry weather to do those darned potholes!
We seem to have an Aladdins Lamp pond of Brownies. Every time we think we are down to the last few another 100 appear! This is largely the aftermath of the 22 drought when we reckoned we had almost lost the lot...seems they did better than expected. Our scales in the gutting room have finally given up the ghost. In their time they probably weighed over 10,000 stone of fish going to Billingsgate before they became the fishery scales. We did a weight test on them today and they were reading 2 pounds under so we have replaced them with a new spring balance job. However, That does mean that Robert Skrines 17lb 8oz Brown that he weighed in a couple of days ago was actually nearer 20 pounds! Well done. Dave Reynolds had some good ones too. More and more fish now coming out on "naturals", especially Buzzers and even Daddies.
Still plenty of big Brownies coming out and some good Rainbows too. It's that time of the year when no two days are the same with fish taking naturals off the top one day and then back on the lures the next day. Getting warmer this week so expecting naturals will be the best bet.
Good to see some sunshine and cold weather at last. The Brownies love it. Here are some catches from the weekend.
Happy Days! Lots of Brownies coming out, a few even taking dry flies now.
For those of you who might have seen a rather misleading post on Facebook today about the fishing at Lechlade yesterday, which insinuated that not a thing happened all day, I would like to show you some very happy anglers, Keith Supple and Ian Oxley, who show rather a different picture. The water levels are still up and the clarity is not brilliant but improving all the time. Forecast for the week doesn't look too bad either. Best to phone us up for an honest update rather than relying on the hearsay of someone who wasn't even anywhere near the place. For those of you who have now cancelled as a result of that post you can now go back to conjecting why so many fisheries are struggling right now.
You don't need a miracle to bag up at Bushyleaze! It's Buzzer time again.
Another load of fish in to Bushyleaze. The C and R is still working well and I will keep that going as long as possible, until the temperatures go up. There's already quite a lot of fly life emerging so buzzers and small drys are working well.
Good to see the youngsters out showing the rest of us how it's done, especially when it comes to those elusive Brownies. Well done all of you!
Nice to see a bit of sun yesterday. Joe Woodward and Mr Bown made the most of it with this great catch. Look at those two Brownies!
Will it ever stop raining? Hopefully drying up for the weekend. The river is going up but not spilling in to the lake yet and it has fished well today and well stocked for the weekend, some big Brownies too.
And so to a post I put up last week.....This is the first time I have ever had to remove a post but after the quite ghastly comments that were made and subsequent phone calls and texts I was forced to. I deleted the comments as soon as I saw them but gather they were still there for people who had already seen the post. Let me make this quite clear. My page is there for your info and I appreciate the friendly comments that follow. I will NOT tolerate any of the bile that appeared, and seems to be appearing more and more on other Fishery pages. None of us will tolerate this (Yes, We do talk to each other). Any nasty comments in future and the offender will be blocked from our page...and our Fishery. We run this Fishery because we love growing large fish and , hopefully, making peoples dreams come true. The last couple of years has seen a small number of people who just seem to completely miss the point, cheat, behave badly and disrespect their fellow anglers. I am not going to put up with this and neither will the majority of my loyal customers. We are going to look very carefully at how we structure our fishing tickets in future. If you are not a sportsman you are not welcome .
Danny Leung showed us how it's done today. Keep moving and keep your eyes open. He had his bag by lunchtime.
We welcomed the GoCatch team to our banks back in December!
