Delivered by James

Another day, another messenger. Introducing James, one of the youngest members of the Farr Out family. That hasn’t held him back though as he has quickly become one of our most reliable and hard working riders.

James has been an integral component of our 5:30am bakery runs. These routes can be challenging at times but we’ve yet to see James lose his cool. If you’ve eaten bread in an Edinburgh restaurant recently, there is a high chance you’ve got James to thank for getting it there.

A man of many talents, James is also a skilled tattoo artist who has recently landed a gig in a Glasgow studio. He’s also an active member of the local cycling scene with a plethora of alleycat wins under his belt - if you are planning on attending a race, this is the man to beat.

His new job will mean less hours on the bike and more hours in the studio, which will be hard for us. Fortunately, once you’ve joined the family, you are never forgotten.

Make sure you check out his tattoo account .tattoo and congratulate him on the new job if you see him in Edinburgh. You’re a legend James 🙌

FARR OUT X LEITH BOTTLE SHOP

That’s right, it’s official!

We’re super happy to be teaming up with Alex from Leith Bottle Shop to provide you all with the best local bevies that money can buy.

Alex set up on Great Junction Street earlier this year to showcase the amazing beer coming out of Leith’s thriving brewing scene.

His arsenal of chilled delights contains all the big local names like Pilot, Newbarns, Barney’s and Campervan. At his shop you can also find a wide range of craft beer, wine and spirits sourced from around the world.

Has the scorching heat of the Scottish summer eliminated your capacity to walk down to the shop?

Not to worry folks - the FULL range of drinks is now available for home delivery (by yours truly) through their webshop.

So lay back... shades on… soak up some sun… We’ll get the beers.

Delivered by Will

The bike messenger community is filled with experienced cyclists and bright personalities - at the heart of that community, is Will.

With thousands of road miles under his belt, in Europe and the UK, Will is one of the most skilled bike messengers we’ve met. He’s as fast as lightning and never needs a map.

He makes riding for 9 hours straight look easy and sets the gold standard for the courier industry. A talented mechanic and creative mind, he also produces his own art and cycling kit. Make sure you check out his latest drop at

Never standing still, always track-standing. We’d tell you to give him a wave on the road but he’ll already be gone - flying past at 30mph, sunglasses on and tunes blaring.

If you manage to get him stationary then you’ll be in for a good time and a lot of laughs.

Keep on shredding brother 🤙

LOCAL FOR LIFE X COMPANY BAKERY

Over the past few months we’ve been quietly working, VERY hard, on a special project with one of the most successful bakeries in the city.

has supplied an award-winning range of baked goods to some of the best local eateries in Edinburgh, for the past 5 years.

Their bread can be found at Michelin star restaurants, wine shops, bars, cafes and breakfast tables, all across the city.

An operation of this kind can quickly become a logistical nightmare - Strict deadlines, a perishable high quality product and drop off locations in the hardest to reach places.

Helping them to make all of these deliveries by bike has represented one of the biggest challenges our small company has faced since its conception in the lockdowns of 2020.

Together, with the help of Company, a badass team of riders and the finest of cargo bike technology on the market, we have prevailed.

From humble beginnings of handling just 10% of their orders, we have planned, developed and grown our service to the point where we are now fulfilling over 80% of their deliveries.

We’ve achieved all of this, together, in under 6 months, which has involved a monumental workload and a huge capacity increase for us.

It has not been easy… Each day our wonderful riders wake up at 5:30am to cycle 150kg trailer loads of artisanal sourdough around Edinburgh!

We do this every day of the week, in all weathers, all year round. THAT is how committed we are to replacing unnecessary van journeys across our city.

We have all revelled in the challenge and are honoured that Company Bakery has worked with us to make it all possible - helping us to prove ourselves and set a positive example for other businesses to follow.

So.. if you’re a business in need of bread, or you’re thinking about changing the van status quo, check out

Also, tune in to .news this week to hear more about how we’re both changing the world - one loaf at a time 🥖

Thank you to our amazing riders, our suppliers and Company for making this all possible.

Delivered by Junita

The learning curve for starting up on your own can be very steep. That’s why it’s advisable to consult someone with experience.

For us, more often than not, that person has been Junita.

As a human rights lawyer turned delivery rider, Jaye has guided us through a myriad of different issues, ranging from legal and financial matters, to helping us to deal with a flooded basement!

She’s earned her stripes on the road, painted walls in our hub, helped us with funding applications and, most importantly, has been a loyal friend and advisor to everyone in the team.

We are very grateful for all her help and wouldn’t be where we are now without her.

So thanks Jaye, you’re the best. 💕

LOCAL FOR LIFE X PEKOTEA

There are certain things in life that have the capacity to unite us all - whoever we are, wherever we come from.

A good cup of tea… is one of those things.

If you stumble upon their Leith based shop, or set your eyes upon their wonderful website, you will find a beautiful and diverse range of some of the finest single estate teas, handcrafted blends and tea-ware that money can buy.

Jon and Esther have built up personal relationships with growers and producers from around the world, sourcing products from as far as China, India, Sri Lanka and Kenya.

These riches have been brought to Scotland for us all to share and learn from. So make sure to give them a visit that will expand your mind and satisfy your taste buds.

And If you’re feeling lazy? Just pop the kettle on, sit back and relax because we can deliver your Pekotea order straight to your door… by bike.

LOCAL FOR LIFE X THE REFILLERY

Changing our own behaviour can be challenging. To strengthen our conviction, we should remember that the consequences of personal development often reach far beyond us as individuals.

Our relationship to food and waste is one example of where this message rings true. Reducing our own waste by consuming more sustainably is pivotal to combat climate change and it is only through individual action that society can move forward collectively.

Plastic free grocery stores, like The Refillery, make it easier for us to change our habits without unnecessary sacrifices. They source a wide range of ethically produced local products, collating them for our convenience and enabling us to make a positive difference in both our own lives and our communities.

To make it even easier, we can deliver your Refillery shopping straight to your door by cargo bike! So why not substitute your next supermarket home delivery for a more sustainable (and  more fun) alternative.

LOCAL FOR LIFE X JUMP SHIP BREWING

As the days get longer and the afternoons grow milder, the prospect of post work beers in the park feels tantalisingly close.

You’re working tomorrow? No worries. With Jump Ship you can enjoy your local brew in the sun and still feel fresh and refreshed for the next days work.

Sonja (the captain of the Jump Ship crew) has sailed to remote corners of the globe and tasted a myriad of different beers. In her travels she found a distinct lack of alcohol-free beers that actually tasted good.

This discovery led her to quit her day job to pursue the ambition of brewing her own world-class alcohol-free beers. Years have passed, the awards have rolled in and it’s clear to see that Sonja and the Jump Ship crew have met their mark.

All of this has been achieved without compromising on the ethics and responsibilities of modern business.

Jump Ship’s packaging, production line and distribution network are clearly geared to the principles of sustainability and each year their loyal customers nominate a charity to which Jump Ship donates at least 10% of the company’s profits.

We are proud to deliver for such a responsible company and hope that you are inspired to support local businesses like this one, who consistently set the standard for the rest of the industry to try and follow.

So if you want your beer delivered by bike - with no emissions and no hangover - then check out Jump Ship’s online shop and order for home delivery in Edinburgh!

Delighted to have Alex, Co-founder and rider, speaking TODAY at this event organised by the European Cyclists’ Federation, along with &

We’ll be sharing the origin story of Farr Out as well as how we’re changing our city, one delivery at a time!

—————————

Join us for the one-off “Cargo Bike Adoption for Businesses” event to learn more about the business use-case for cargo bikes.
About this event
The “Cargo Bike Adoption for Businesses” webinar is a European Cyclists’ Federation (ECF) organised online event, as part of the City Changer Cargo Bike project, showcasing the business use-case for cargo bikes. Cargo bikes could substitute over half of logistics and a quarter of commercial deliveries in European cities. For example, in Central London, last-mile logistics are characterised by short driving distances with predominantly stationary vehicles that spend more time parking than driving. Cargo bikes, on the other hand, are not limited by factors such as low emission zones, parking spaces or traffic, constituting major advantages for increased business efficiency whilst contributing to more liveable and less polluted city centres.
The one-off “Cargo Bike Adoption for Businesses” event will take place over the course of three separate sessions in which cargo bikes for business uses will be explored from all perspectives. The three sessions will provide insight into successful case studies from within the CCCB project and feature guest speakers from a variety of leading cargo bike service providers and sustainable transport consultancies. We will hear how public authorities can support the transition to cargo bikes and reduce motorised traffic in city centres, how individual business owners stand to benefit from choosing a bike over a van and the myriad services that are increasingly available as alternatives to traditional last-mile delivery.
Opening Address from Jill Warren, CEO, ECF (14:00 GMT)

We are always chuffed to feature our pals at Barney’s beer!

As our third client, they played a crucial part in getting us up and running. They have also kept our fridge topped up with fresh local brews, for which we are eternally grateful.

Barney had previously made deliveries by bike, so it was a perfect match when we started working together last year.

The microbrewery has operated out of Summerhall since 2010 and you can find their sultry suds at The Pitt, The Royal Dick, Bullfinch, and other fine establishments around town.

You can also get Barney’s Beer delivered… by us! Treat your mates this Christmas by sending them a curated gift box from their online shop. Link in our story.
