We’re incredibly proud to share that our Head Sommelier at The Kitchin, Joel Bastian has been recognised as the UK’s 5th Top Sommelier, and the leading sommelier in Scotland.

Sommeliers from across the country gathered at the Top 100 Sommeliers awards ceremony this week, hosted by Sommelier Edit which celebrated the stars of the industry.

Joel has been part of Kitchin Group for more than 14 years, and continues to share his skills, expertise, knowledge and passion with our entire team.

Today we continued the journey of learning about food with the children from Victoria Primary School in Edinburgh.

Following on from last week’s visit to The Free Company Farm, we learnt how they grow the outstanding vegetables and how they care for the livestock.

Today we spent the morning at The Kitchin learning all about our ‘From Nature to Plate’ philosophy and what happens to the produce when it arrives at the restaurant. We spoke about the importance of working with the seasons, knowing where our food comes from, and the mutual respect and understanding between suppliers and chefs.

We illustrated the journey of the food from the farm to the plate, the teamwork involved at the restaurant and showed the children how the food is served to our guests.

A big thank you to everyone who made this happen; the inspirational kids and teachers, Charlie and Angus and the team and to our team for sharing our passion of showing support and commitment to our community… .

What an amazing day at The Free Company Farm with children from Victoria Primary School in Edinburgh.

Proud to say that we have all started working together on a project showing children the incredible journey of food… from the planting of the seeds, to regenerative farming - the no dig philosophy of growing - to the harvesting of the vegetables…

We also learned about the rearing, feeding and the lifecycle of the livestock, and even talked about the slaughtering and hanging of the meat…

Next week the children will join us at The Kitchin to see how we receive the incredible ingredients in the restaurant and how we prepare and serve them to our guests From Nature to Plate indeed..

A big shout out to all the inspirational teachers and helpers who made yesterday happen and to Charlie & Angus at for sharing their passion, incredible knowledge and commitment to the community.

Last but not least to all the kids for embracing this journey and showing great interest and inspiration for the project.

Hopefully a few up and coming budding chefs, farmers and foodies.. Magic day, thank you! ..
