MUMS Great Comfort Food: Public Service Announcement

Hello all you beautiful people, pardon this little intrusion but we just wanted to first of all say how fabulous it is to welcome the 2023 Edinburgh Festival and second provide a little comfort & guidance in relation to our waiting list procedures.

Many of you will already know that we don't take reservations, and during peak times we run a waiting list.

If you wish to understand how this works please go to our website http://mumsgreatcomfortfood.com where you will find our new FAQ section, and here you will find detailed guidance on our procedure.

Please ensure that you wait to be seated when entering the restaurant, just wait by the 'wait to be seated' sign & our team will advise if we have any available tables or how long the wait for a table will be. Invariably it is 20/30 minutes during peak times, they will take your name & you can either wait outside our go for a lovely walk.

If you see empty tables but are being told they are unavailable, please, please do not get upset....these tables have been allocated to guests ahead of you on our wait list.

Still unsure, don't worry, email us - [email protected] - we will answer your question or any other query you have.

Please keep on shining you crazy diamonds & remember if you want to try & avoid the waiting list, then visit us either early morning or mid-afternoon (9:30am - 11:30am/2:30pm - 5:30pm) you may find things to be a little less hectic.

Well, we hope you all had the most glorious Christmas?

Our doors are back open after our Christmas break and Great Comfort Food is being served and we have some delightful seasonal specials such as our Turkey & Cranberry Pie with Sweet Potato Mash. Or there's our seasonal little Christmas Pud, veritably bursting with goodwill to all, citrus zest, seasonal spices & drizzled with a delightful brandy snap sauce & a little pouring vanilla custard on the side (he's also vegan but unfortunately not gluten free).

So join us as the last few days of the year slowly fade & embrace a juicy and thrilling New Year with MUMS Great Comfort Food.

It has been glorious welcoming so many of you back through our doors this year, a pure pleasure! Thank you, thank you for your fabulous support through these years and on behalf of the team and myself may you all have the most beautiful Christmas.

We are closed now for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & Boxing Day but back open on 27th December and look forward to welcoming you back for Great Comfort Food through the New Year and into 2023.

Ahoy you beautiful people......well we didn't feel we could let this particular moment pass without a little word, for we are indeed about to gingerly tiptoe into the first Edinburgh Festival in 3 years & no doubt there is indeed a thrill in the air. A moment we should savour, for if the last 3 years as taught us anything....it's that we take too many things for granted.

Any of you star shines feeling a little peckish? Then please let us direct you to this elegant pairing, pull up a chair & indulge with our Vegan Chive Mash with handmade Black Olive Provençal Herb Vegan sausages, we promise you this.....utter deliciousness.

Many lovely people have said they have always considered MUMS Great Comfort Food as a strictly 'sausage & mash place,' whilst we don't deny that our glorious sausages & meats have always maintained star quality (all of our meat comes from local family run farms), it is also fair to say that our vegetarian options have sat proudly beside our meat based dishes.

Our vegan comfort food is a new(ish) venture for us, specifically because we wanted to ensure that our vegan options were as pure in quality as everything else on our menu. Creating fresh vegan food is something of an alchemy & we have spent the last few months working on this new comfort food adventure ensuring everything is made by hand, nothing is bought in or outsourced, so there are no unpleasant additives nor is it highly processed.

The vegan poster boy for today is our glorious Shepherd's Pie, which is in fact becoming as big a seller as it's meat based variety.

So, whether you're a dedicated meat eater, flexitarian, vegetarian or vegan one thing is for sure, when your choose to eat at MUMS you will always be assured of, great service, great value & great comfort food.

Hello beautiful people, as promised, here is the second addition to MUMS new Vegan range - The Notorious V.G.N - now serving at MUMS Great Comfort Food from this weekend.

Our objective for The Notorious V.G.N was to create a vegan dish that could potentially surpass the eating enjoyment of a meat based version. Some may argue (& have) that is impossible, however having already tested out on some of the most dedicated meat lovers, we're happy to report, we've come pretty close.

Using Seitan combined with a melange of southern spices, we slow cook & triple baste, then seal in all those flavours with our smoky Southern V.G.N Marinade. Once cooked, we thinly slice it & serve to you layered on a soft bun, drizzled with V.G.N BBQ Sauce, our V.G.N Mayo, Sweet Red Pepper, Pickles & served with a little side salad, Fries & V.G.N Slaw.

Ahoy to all you crazy diamonds, we have for you today the first in a new chapter for MUMS Great Comfort Food. Please welcome MUMS Great Vegan Food, the culmination of months of research, experimentation & a little bit of alchemy! We are launching this weekend with two items (the second will be revealed tomorrow) & more will follow throughout the Autumn/Winter.

So, for starters, MUMS Vegan Bay Faux Crab Cakes - put those nets away for no crabs shall be taken for this delight. We shred hearts of palm & blend with thinly diced celery, red pepper, onion, fresh dill & our glorious home made vegan mayo, all with a balanced & delicate hint of chilli, paprika & a little lemon. Then we toss them around in a pile of fluffy gluten free breadcrumbs, heat in the oven & serve with a little fresh red pepper, lettuce & home made vegan tartare sauce.

As a once fully fledged lover of crab meat, I can assure you this dish will not disappoint. Our vegan range is designed by a former meat loving chef & rigorously tested on dedicated meat eaters, so whether you are vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian or just a meat lover looking to make a little change, we hope you will pop over to MUMS & enjoy.

These details will be held securely & destroyed after 4 weeks as per current guidelines. Masks are a mandatory requirement for both our guests and our team (both back & front of house). Hand Sanitisers must also be utilised where indicated & we operate the STERI-7 Bio-Fogging system throughout our premises to ensure your safety.

As you will all be aware the Scottish Government have today announced a full lockdown for Scotland and in view of this, we have decided to temporarily close MUMS to all trading for four weeks until the planned Governmental review at the end of January 2021.

Under the new guidelines we are able to serve you all from 9am-6pm Monday - Saturday & 10am-6pm Sunday, we are unable to serve alcohol but there will of course be Great Comfort Food in abundance!

Rest assured, as always, our standards to ensure enjoyment & safety are second to none, all of our team wear (their choice) of mask or visor, we have daily temperature checks of all our team, social distancing between tables is strictly adhered to & all seating areas cleaned prior to & after each seating. In conjunction with strict hygiene of both front & back of house we also utilise STERI-7 Biomist (https://www.steri-7.com) throughout our premises, which provides us with a groundbreaking active barrier technology that keeps working up to 7 days even between cleaning.
