Discover the timeless charm of a true Glasgow institution, The Buttery.

Established in 1870, The Buttery stands as one of Scotland's most beloved and renowned restaurants and is thought to be Glasgow’s oldest culinary establishment.

In 2007, we took the reins and transformed it into 'Two Fat Ladies at The Buttery', breathing new life into this historic gem.

Prepare to step into a bygone era, where the relaxed, old-school ambience will wrap you in its warm embrace, leaving you reluctant to bid farewell.

Why do we serve our soup the way we do? Many have asked, so let us clear things up 🥣

The key reason behind this is to keep the soup hot when travelling from our kitchen upstairs.

Admittedly, it does add a little extra theatre to the service too, but that was never the initial intention.

The bowls were actually on offer at an auction the same time we picked up our cutlery, so it just seemed right to get them too.

It is one thing that has really stuck and we won't be changing it anytime soon.

It really is one of the many quirks that make The Buttery, well... The Buttery.

Is there anything else you would like a little clarity on? Let us know in the comments ⬇️

Thank you so much for visiting us, we can't wait to have you back this month! 🫶

"Let’s just take a minute to talk about The Buttery - it’s thought to be one of Glasgow’s oldest restaurants and I was so excited to finally visit. I loved the relaxed, old-school, Scottish ambience in the venue.

We had:

Beets Salad - Salt baked beetroot, cows’ milk cheese, sun blushed tomatoes, candied pecans, chilli & mint dressing - we both had this and loved the tastes, textures and presentation of this dish!

Scotch Beef - 6oz fillet of Scottish beef, ox cheek croquette, enoki mushrooms, white onion cream & roast onion jus.

West Coast Halibut - Pan fried halibut, garlic crushed potatoes, wilted spinach, caviar & keta, champagne beurre blanc.

We shared the Coffee Meringue dessert which was one of the best desserts I think I have ever had.

I would highly recommend a visit to The Buttery - we have already booked to go back to celebrate another big family birthday in June!"

"What a blast from the past! Not been here in over 20 years until my birthday lunch yesterday - it was every bit as good as I remember.

What an excellent meal!

The flavours all worked so perfectly together, the quality and cookery of the meat was superb! Washed down with a tremendous Romanian pinot noir, it was a fantastic luncheon.

I will ensure it won't be another 20 odd years before I dine here again!"

Thank you so much for joining us at The Buttery! 🫶
