Today is World Mental Health Day!

This year’s theme is “It is time to prioritise mental health in the workplace.”

In our fast-paced world, it is important now more than ever to take breaks, speak to others and prioritise mental health.

We know work can feel overwhelming, so it’s essential to find the right work-life balance to give your mind a rest from the stress of a working environment.

If you’re struggling, it is important to reach out to someone. This can be someone you work with, a friend or family member. Let’s work together to prioritise mental health in the workplace.

Today Purple House Clinic is celebrating Child Health Day!

We know that physical and mental health are closely related, so it’s important to stay fit and promote physical health for your child. By simply stepping outside and going for a walk or playing a game with your child, their wellbeing can see significant improvement.

The best ways you can get involved in supporting children’s health are by advocating for policies, engaging in physical activities and leading by example. Today is the perfect day to start incorporating healthier choices into your daily routine, showing your child that health is a priority!

October is ADHD Awareness Month.

ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is an often-misunderstood disorder which can cause a range of difficulties in everyday life, including having a short attention span, problems with organisation, being forgetful, being easily distracted and having difficulties sticking to one particular task. These can have a significant impact on everyday life, preventing individuals from reaching their full potential within relationships, at school, or in the workplace.

ADHD UK estimate that 2.6m people have ADHD in the UK, but over 80% of those have not had a formal diagnosis of the condition*.

At Purple House Clinic, we offer ADHD assessments which will help to determine a diagnosis, allowing the individual to then take the next appropriate steps, whether that be medication, cognitive behavioural therapy etc.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the symptoms of ADHD, click here for more information: https://www.purplehouseclinic.co.uk/adhd-assessment/

Our autism assessments are available to both children and adults and are widely respected in the field due to their thoroughness and our commitment to a neuro-affirming approach.

For our latest team spotlight post, we spoke to Dr Sian Armstrong, Health Psychologist BSc Hons, MSc, DPsych

What will you be working on at Purple House Clinic Edinburgh?
As a Health Psychologist, I support people who have been struggling with a physical illness, injury or might be dealing with pain – it’s my job to support them through challenges that arise from physical health conditions or physical health difficulties such as weight management.

What do you feel will be the impact of your work at the Clinic?
Allowing people to accept and come to terms with where they’re at in their illness, pain or recovery journey, shifting their mindset and moving towards a future where they can enjoy the things they value.

What benefits are you looking forward to from working as an Associate/Clinician?
Being around other clinicians, having access to their knowledge and learning from one another. While I enjoy remote working, I’m looking forward to having a base, being around people and supporting people who need my help in person or remotely.
