The next term of Slung Low's Leadership Academy starts on the September 13th . All welcome, just get in touch!

Last Friday our warehouse hosted a very special community dinner organised by the Imaginative Intelligence Warriors, our steering committee at Ingram Road Primary School. They curated the discussions, food, music and guest list, inviting friends, neighbours and collaborators to celebrate one of the final events of the school year.

Special thanks to Dermot Daly for hosting, The Band & Co. for reuniting after their popular performance at the Kindness Festival, our brilliant caterers and , for these lovely photographs and everyone who contributed to making it a really fun evening!

Ahead of next week's general election Iceandfire are bringing Tales From The Hostile Environment to our Warehouse in Holbeck this Sunday at 14:30.
"We believe the voices of immigrants matter and with an election coming up, we have brought together a collection of first-hand testimonies we have gathered from immigrants and refugees living in the UK over the last two decades. Come and listen to the human impact of our immigration policies in a city near you."

Robyn Hood is coming to Slung Low!🌳🏹

Monday 3rd June 2024 at 5pm

This exciting Leeds Playhouse Community Tour show, created by Leeds-based family theatre specialists Fidget Theatre, tells the magical, musical story of a little girl who lives in a big city. She likes to play outside and builds a den on a small patch of green land; a magical space all her own, where she dreams big dreams of woodland adventures. But then developers arrive and suddenly Robyn’s haven is under threat. So, she retreats into her fantastical forest world where she is an audacious hero with a brave band of outlaws.
An original take on the classic Robin Hood folktale, this production features integrated audio description and live music played by multi-talented actor-musicians.
Prepare to join the merriest band of outlaws in the land – right on your doorstep!

Big news! 🎉

We’re really excited that Alan is the new Creative Director of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

Since we’ve known him he hasn’t stopped going on about the Tattoo and so quite frankly it’s about time. We’re excited to hear all about his adventures north of the border.

This is just one of the many exciting changes that are happening at Slung Low this Spring.

We’ve just finished building our new classroom in our Kirklees site to support our developing Leadership Academy programmes.

Kully Thiarai, whose experience and knowledge has been so helpful to us over the years, joins the team as Co-Chair. We have been proud to work with Kully in many different ways over the years and this new relationship builds on the work we did together, like The Gifting and The Awakening, in the city last year.
Alan remains connected to the company as the second of our Co-Chairs.

Joanna becomes Chief Executive focusing on developing the big shows that we know you love to watch and we love to make. And Matt is becoming Head of Venues to continue to develop our 3 spaces so they are even more useful to artists and more welcoming to audiences.

We are all very excited to be collaborating together to shape this next brilliant chapter for Slung Low.

There’ll be more announcements to come as we bring new people into the team to help us deliver our big plans for the future but in the meantime… *Strikes up the bagpipes* We Go Again Tomorrow.

We are so excited to share with you the latest documentary short from the award-winning filmmaker Brett Chapman - Crayons & Opera.

Brett’s previous documentaries followed us as we found our feet running a working men’s club and later a food bank.

The stars of this newest film are the brilliant pupils of Ingram Road Primary School, our neighbours in Holbeck. Last summer, all 180 pupils in Key Stage 2 performed in our big community opera Noah’s Flood with our talented friends Manchester Collective as part of LEEDS 2023 Year of Culture and Manchester International Festival Factory International

For the last 3 months the team have been working with the brilliant designer David Farley to build a new space for our Kirklees base. To support our Leadership Academy and the work in our wood. This week it was finished. Can’t wait to get started in it!
