Today sees the 2nd Reading of Lord Hayward's Private Member's Bill in the House of Lords. The Ballot Secrecy Bill seeks to make it clear that 'family voting', something that Democracy Volunteers sees all the time, across the UK, is an electoral offence and something that polling day presiding officers should have clear guidance on and the power to prevent.
Lord Hayward joined our podcast team earlier in the week to tell us more about his Bill and also to tell us about how our work influenced his decision to raise the issue in Parliament and seek to change the law.

Our Story
Our mission is to improve the quality of democratic elections, by advising those who administer and oversee elections, to enhance them for the benefit of voters.
We aim to do this by attending UK and international elections and empirically reporting statistics that support this objective through a strong methodology, based on the international standards for election observation as set out by OSCE/ODIHR.
We aim to do this in a constructive and encouraging way to benefit the delivery of democracy and to benefit the electorate as a whole.
