Another great year for the team in the books 🙌🏻 nearly 100 fights contested, over 60% of fights won. Lots of silverware for the trophy cabinet 🏆 these results don’t cover our amazing grappling team which have had hundreds of matches also🥋

We also hit a major milestone this year, going over 1000 fights as a team 🤯 this is from grass roots level right up to the UFC! We have also created 12 home grown BJJ black belts in that time with many people going on to form their owns teams respectively.

Despite our competition success, we have also changed the lives of so many people who don’t choose to compete. The benefits of training are many in number and we will continue to grow our family on the mats. We wish everyone a happy new year and hope 2024 is filled will health, wealth and happiness 🙌🏻❤️

And finally the prestigious WFAC award aka the Rico Franco award 🏆 this year gets the vote for the 2nd year running! It was a close contest with Malik doing well in the votes with his 12 fights taking on all comers! But Robbie with a beautiful KO in BKFC with a last minute heavyweight fight, then finishing the year with a last minute win in Scotland, gets the nod this year 👏🏻 also doing a great job coaching and being a general motivator in the gym! 🙌🏻

Pro fighter of the year goes to 🏆 putting together a 3-1 record this year in the pro ranks, Tommy made a real statement in his last fight, showing his wrestling ability before landed a clean punch that could have easily been KO of the year! That win took him to 5-1 overall, landing him a contract with top UK show Cagewarriors where he will look to carve a path to the title! 👏🏻

Amateur fighter of the year goes to .basahel 🏆 Malik has had 12 fights this year going 11-1 and the only loss coming by decision in the finals of the IMMAF world championships! Going on to win the Saudi Games then the IMMAF Asian championship just a week later 🤯 he has just signed an amazing deal with PFL and will make his debut early 2024, a big future awaits the Saudi storm 🌪️ shout out to last years winner .fightteam who was close in the votes and has had a fantastic year himself, winning the 4 nations and having a great showing in the IMMAF worlds 🌍

Fight of the year goes to 🏆 riding a 5 fight win steak and being in 2 absolute barn stormers this year (his fight on just got voted their fight of the year too!) but it was his epic fight on PFL that our members voted #1! Going into enemy territory as the underdog and putting on a great performance is no doubt the highlight of his career so far. Shout out to his opponent Lewis Monarch as it takes 2 to tango 💃🏻 more epic fights to come in 2024 for Oscar!

KO of the year goes to who got this great head kick in his debut at 🔥 what a way to kick off your amateur career 👏🏻 he had some stiff competition with and his tiger 🐯 uppercut on BKFC then recent finish on SNA. Looking forward to seeing him develop and get busy in the amateur scene in 2024 🙌🏻

Sub of the year goes to for her flying arm bar on Northern Submission Series. A very active year on the grappling scene for Amy and her fan friendly submission hunting style 💪🏻 she also does a great job running our ladies only program and helping with our youth program, thanks Amy 🙏🏻

Up and Comer of the year goes to who has got off to a great start in his mma career going 2-1 with some great performances, learning some valuable lessons on the way. He has made a great transition over from high level Tae Kwon Do competition and we are looking forward to seeing him take his style all the way to the pro ranks! Shout out to too who was close in the votes with a successful debut this year! 🏆

Striker of the year goes to who has put together a 3-0 record this year under the BKFC banner. We all no his story from illness back to the ring, now he is lining himself up for a title shot stateside in the 165lb division 🏆 Rico is also trained by who is a great coach that we recently had deliver a session at AVT. Big things to come next year 🙌🏻 shout out to and also in the mix with some great wins on

Grappler of the year goes to 🏆 he has had a fantastic year of competition, with matches on Grapplefest, Polaris, culminating in gold at ADCC UK, also doing a great job coaching at the gym at the same time as managing injuries! If only this lad had as much common sense as he does medals he would be dangerous 🙌🏻😂 we done to all our other grapplers who were in the mix also 🙏🏻

Its time for our end of year awards! Lets get started with coach of the year, as voted by our members. Taking the title this year is AVT head coach 🏆 another successful year with Jay at the helm. The gym has continued to expand with more classes and more members, and an active fight team with almost 100 bouts this year! The news is out! AVT fighter signs a multifight deal with 🙌🏻

This was a special one for a couple of major reasons!

Of course it's always a major achievement for a student to get their black belt in BJJ. It's likely one of the biggest and toughest accomplishments of their lives.

For Nath, he's been operating at a high level for a long time so this was inevitable, but he's been so committed and dedicated that he has levelled up fast.

He's a great technician who is always evolving with the game, and also a great teammate who needs chucking off the mats every time because he'll roll forever with anybody who wants to.

The other reason is that this was coach Roberto's first official BJJ black belt promotion.

Now, we can't call Roberto an unsung hero because everyone at the gym loves him and knows just how awesome he is, but he's the last guy to seek praise and just cracks on developing everyone else while also getting better himself.

As Head of BJJ, the Italian Stallion is a major part of all of our success in high level submission grappling events, winning team trophies time after time, and all the rest.

Roberto has been a massive factor in pretty much all of the black belts we already have at AVT as a long time coach at the gym, but now he's got the rank to dish them out, there couldn't be a more fitting first one because of the time these two have given to one another to get to this point.

So, congratulations Nathan and congratulations Roberto. You both deserve the recognition!

We've got some great coaches lined up for you if you want to come and get some work in!

Members are free to come in and do their own thing while the gym is open (times indicated in the picture) as long as you clean up after yourselves and don't be scruffs.

Non-members are welcome to the open mats for free.

Awesome to get our team trophy from the ADCC UK tournament in Sheffield a few weeks ago. It's been a big year for the AVT grapplers, with some big things on the agenda for 2024!

The cat is out of the bag after another amazing set of performances from Malik Basahel!

Fresh off his silver at the IMMAF Worlds, Malik just won the Saudi Games with two victories in two days.

After the final, it was revealed that Malik has signed with the PFL MMA ready to make his debut with them next year.

Not many amateurs getting signed to one of the biggest platforms in the world but if anyone deserves it, it's him.

On to the next challenge for "The Storm"! 🌪️

Our very first introduction to BJJ course, specifically tailored to onboard brand new grapplers into the sport.

This will be no-gi so no special purchases are required, you can just get started with the training kit you already have.

You'll be coached by two of our experienced and popular coaches Danny and Jake as you navigate the tricky world of starting to learn how to strangle your friends.

This will be a small group to enhance your ability to learn and get time with the coaches.

Starting in January and costing just £80 for two sessions a week for 8 weeks (£5 a session is a steal).

Spaces strictly limited and it will be first come, first served.

We said goodbye to Przemek on Monday after his last session before he returns home to Poland.

Przemek has been with us for the past few years, at first interested in MMA before he switched his focus to BJJ and turned into a beast of a grappler!

A silent assassin that was always a great training partner and a real handful for anybody when it was time to roll.

We wish the best for him and his family back in his homeland where he'll continue his journey.

He'll always be welcome back on the mats at AVT when he's in town 🙌

Great showing for .fightteam and .basahel last week at the IMMAF World championships 🌍

Some valuable experience taken as Charlie moves to 10-1 as an amateur, stopping an American 🇺🇸 fighter, then losing a questionable decision to the silver medalist and former world champion Huliaiev.

Malik furthered his record to 12-2-1, winning 3 bouts over 3 days against Bulgaria 🇧🇬 Brazil 🇧🇷 and Ukraine 🇺🇦 before missing out on gold with a close decision loss in the final to a Tajik fighter, taking home IMMAF World silver🥈

Both fighters made an incredible account of themselves, our team and their countries! Proving they are clearly 2 of the best amateurs in the world at their respective weights, both will be looking to enter the pro ranks at some point next year!
