There’s a lot more to rehab than what’s on the tin.

Here are a few things I regularly have conversations about with my clients.

Do any of these sound like you?

Lots to work on but I had the best team 🩷

What clients have to say!

I have worked with many different individuals. Athletes, runners, parents, manual workers, in person & online.

People who have recently gone through injury, or those who have been suffering with pain for years who finally decided to do something about it!

If you’ve been sitting on the sidelines for a while now, I urge you to give me a message! Let’s have a chat and get you feeling good again!

For those of you who are asking about achilles rehab, I thought this might be of some help!!

This data is from a study done by Baxter a few years ago, they have separated the exercises into TWO graphs one with loading PEAK and the other, loading RATE. The graph I am sharing here is of loading RATE, there isn’t a huge difference but there are a few swaps and minor changes.

This graph just highlights the importance of rehab and a proper return to running protocol to be followed after an achilles injury.

Unless you are rehabbing from a full rupture you can probably skip to the walking part of the graph and start from there, if you are not yet weight baring then this whole graph should be capturing what your rehab will look like.

This graph is also useful to know where you should begin your rehab if your are suffering from a tendinopathy, start slow and see where your capacity is. For example, you may be able to complete double leg calf pulses pain free but not yet able to do a countermovement jump, and this will show you why.

I harp on and on about progressive loading through rehab and this graph is just perfect to simplify that and make it really easy to understand where the gaps may be in rehab!

Struggling with an injury and unsure where to start? Give me a message and lets have a chat

Regional Program over for the year!!🌹

South West coming away undefeated! Has been so nice to see the boys improve over the last few weeks and mesh together as a team!

Game 1 : the North
Game 2: London South East

Second game was a little damp 😅 but the boys adapted to the conditions and came away with the win!

Back in June for the U20s program, which I much prefer because of the weather ☀️

The quick way to your health and fitness goals is the long way.

Why?

Because the quick way is a myth, it’s a quick route to overtraining and injury.

Take it steady, set smaller achievable goals in effort to get closer to the lifestyle that you want to create for yourself.

I see a lot of clients who get super excited about all the new goals they’ve set themselves that they forget what their body can do today.

Consistency is what wins the game, what can you do consistently?

It’s probably not currently the end goal, and that ok

You’ve got all the time in the world, creating healthy habits doesn’t actually have an end date.

The amount of people I see who tell me how long they have been limited by their pain & injury for a long time is a lot!

People tend to just accept it as the new normal,

no it’s not normal to get shoulder pain every time you do a pull up, or knee pain when you do a squat.

Don’t be defeated and just sit back and never squat or pull up again

Book in for a free call and we can discuss all things pain and injury and see what a plan could be for you moving forward!

* Cue sarcastic thumbs up*

Injury can be pretty s**t, we all know that

In a split second (or over a long period of time….) all your goals are basically thrown out of the window

The competitions/ games/ matches you were working towards and looking forward to are gone

It’s really hard in that moment to try and see the positive aspect of it

And I know, I am currently working my way through it now

BUT

In all this you now have an amount of time already put aside (for training) that you can now rehab in

Rehab is a chance for you to basically do a full blown MOT. This is why testing is FAB because now we have a start line

Setting small goals for each part of rehab is important to keep you on track, hitting those ranges, strength or power

You can put yourself in a BETTER position than you came out

You cannot control injury no matter what the internet tells you but you can control what you do with it and how you react

You have full control over that

So yes, when your physio, sports therapist or rehab therapist tells you injury is an opportunity, restrain yourself from wanting to hit them for not understanding what you’re going through and see from their approach because

It is an opportunity

You decide whether it’s a good one or not.

Weekly (ish) review

Last weekend, I competed in my first Rx competition. It was really technical and gymnastics isn’t our strong point. In fact I completed my first ever (proper) HSPU during the workout and managed a set of 4 I think!

We literally put our heads together and had bulletproof (ish) belief that we would win the final. We were sitting in 4th and we absolutely smashed it.

It is a moment I will never forget, especially with the whole of cheering us on and sharing that with us, so much more than a gym💛

A slight hiatus from me, as sadly I have been very unwell the last 10days! Starting to feel a bit better now, but here are some more great photos from my time with LeLoop this year!

Sometimes with chronic injuries it is hard to know when to through the towel in.

You’re ’mostly’ functional, and you can get through day to day activities easily.

You can train, just not maximally. But ‘its not that bad’

Sometimes it can become habit that we accept these long-term injuries and pain.

You shouldn’t have to do that, you deserve to use your body to its full potential.

I get it, when it has been a long time you can start to lose hope and focus on all the things that didn’t work.

I will be the first to say sometimes, you can do it on your own.

But Dr Google and your aunt who keeps telling you what worked for her isn’t always in your best interest to hit the goals you want to work towards.

I have struggled with many injuries including long-term back pain.

What helped is having some guidance EXTERNALLY, with that and the accountability allowed me to overcome an injury that stopped me doing most things and certainly affected training.

Having people in your corner is a massive help.

DAY 1 at camp

On what was probably the hottest day of the year. There was a lot of 15s played…

Great prep day for some proper game time tomorrow which again sounds like it’s going to be another scorcher!!

Boys completed a mobs & stretching session with me to end the day off nicely before tomorrow!

Considering most of my season is spent being cold beyond belief I am soaking this great weather up!

See ya tomorrow 🌹

Little Update from me!

Been absolutely loving having the off season to enjoy weekends again!
Was the first time I have been to a rugby event and wasn’t working!!

Really pleased we are back to having normal weeks again! As nice as the bank holidays are, I actually like having a 5 day week back!

Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting things coming in the coming weeks!

Something I have come across a lot recently is,

People getting confused with how much information is out there.

Having an injury = can be overwhelming

Unsure if you’re doing the right thing to help yourself recover = even more overwhelming.

The internet is a great place to share information on what to do when you’re injured. But the fact is we all gave different goals, some of us trying to return back to high level sport whilst others just want to be able to get through their day without pain.

So, yes, the endless reels and posts full of incredible information can be overwhelming and you end up trying a bit of everything and in the process not really getting anywhere.

Want some guidance? Give me a message for some advice my DM’s are always open!

Don’t be afraid to ask!iniuryclinic

WHAT A WEEKEND, look at the sunshine☀️

Nice to see the weather has finally got the memo!

This coming weekend was supposed to be the day of my triathlon! Sadly because of injury I have had to postpone it until August! Which means I need to get my butt in gear and do some rehab.

Even for me, someone who regularly writes rehab and treats many injuries day in day out. I know all the benefits of rehab but yet I still find it a struggle to keep on track.

I am in fact human like everyone else!

I am mentioning this for some accountability to making my body feel better. I will put some updates on here to help keep track!

Bring on the next few weeks of some great training and rehab

Do you also have an injury that holding you back from doing some fun things this summer! It is not too late, give me a message and lets see if we can get you moving !

These are some of the aspects that make up an Achilles rehabilitation

Rehab can be hard, it requires consistency, patience and hard work.

That doesn’t mean it’s not something everyone can achieve.

BUT

When we don’t hit goals on time, inevitably it can have an impact on your mindset and mental health.

You need to stop focusing on pain as a primary outcome, I get it, it is the ULTIMATE goal but as this can vary massively on so many factors day to day , instead use functional outcomes that can be measures objectively.

This way you have an undeniable stack of evidence that you’re getting faster and stronger. This consistency will then drive you towards that ultimate goal.

This is such an important mindset shift to make during rehab, it will make It much more enjoyable for you too!

You have just got to trust the process
