UP THE YELLOWS🟡⚫️⚪️

A joint Saturday and Sunday side competed in Montagu and NF U10 tournament today, the lads played fantastic in a very competitive group!

Went through to the knockouts of the trophy, put in an outstanding 3-1 win in the semi finals which led us to a nail biting win on penalties in the final, gaining us more silverware!

A superb tournament from the lads who should all be proud of themselves!

After 3 years coaching this group of lads, tournaments, matches, training sessions, wins, losses, rain, shine, coach Luke will be taking a step back from coaching our U10 Sunday Yellows.

Myself and Luke started coaching a bunch of lads attending Fun sessions on a Saturday morning, some of them only being 5 years old, fast forward just over 3 years and we have a multiple tournament winning side that plays incredible football and a great group of friends.

Luke moved to Edinburgh toward the end of the u8 age group, in any normal situation that would have been the end of the road for most coaches, however Luke spent his own money coming down for trainings, games for both the Yellows and the Blacks at the time, and continued with his coaching.

Personally, it would never have been possible to start on my coaching journey without Luke, and people involved will still likely see him around tournaments and games as despite taking a step back from coaching the team, he will still be helping out with the Saturday Yellows team and is still as passionate about our Yellows as he was on day 1.

What a weekend with the lads at Flamingo Land with BT Promotions.

On day 1 we played in a very competitive group, winning 2 and losing 1 and only coming 2nd in the group on goals scored!

Day 2, we played 3 knockout games. Lost our quarter final, to a very physical side, and played in the semi final of the Yorkshire Cup and ground out a well earned tight win to get to the final. In the final we coasted into a early lead and held this for the game, finishing as Yorkshire Cup champions.

The player of the tournament chosen by referees across the days was Ewan. He was outstanding from start to finish, and well deserved his award!

Aside from the football, the weekend was amazing. The lads went on tons of rides, rinsed the arcades for all they were worth, swam, ate LOTS of food, and had a weekend to remember.

What a team, but more importantly, what a group of young gents and great friends.

Our CM Luke picked up his most improved trophy yesterday👏🏻

Being a grassroots football coach is such a privilege… but it comes with its hardships.

Our job is to take the stress that school can bring to the kids and turn it into a burning desire. To translate the morals they learn at home into their understanding of the beautiful game. To keep them social and active in this technology ruled modern day.

We at Westerhope pride ourselves on the sense of companionship we, and the kids, have created. But one thing is for certain. All of the above would not have been easy without Ben.

The time and passion poured into our club is undeniable. The identity we bear today is a product of his work ethic, but more importantly his drive to extend his infectious ‘football mad’ mindset ontowards all associated with the club.

Being a kid in 2024 is tougher than ever before, and throughout the rollercoasters that are the passing seasons - he has, and always will be, there for our lads.

With that being said, we are once again thrilled to be coaching with him this season, and we can’t wait for whatever comes our way in the future.

Let’s run it back and knock it out the park this season, Ben!

The Yellows made a great account of themselves playing some incredible football all round.

Well done to Ponteland U9 Zebras, Ponteland U9 Panthers, New Fordley U9 Yellows, Redhouse Farm U9 Eagles, and Killingworth U9 Whites for taking part, all fantastic teams with a great bunch of lads and coaches.

Our player of the tournament went to our #1, Joey who made some incredible saves across the games and looked really confident in his position.

Cup day for the lads today, who after a long season of promotions into the higher splits of the age, fell into the higher bracket of cup football.

We were placed in a group with the strongest side from our own division, and 2 sides from the top division of u9 football.

The lads didn’t get the tough fixtures get to them though, as they battled all day long against the best of the best.

The lads finished the 3 game group on 2 points, losing against the team from our own division, and taking 2 points from 2 top division sides.

What an experience for the lads playing in the hardest fixtures they could have possibly had today.

We well and truly made a name for ourselves today, and will not be taken lightly by any team.

Another fantastic split finished for the lads, which sees them once again bumped up into a tougher division for the next rotation!🤝

We look towards a tough friendly on Sunday after a fantastic training session focusing on movement off the ball and utilising space.

New rotation of games begins on the 28th January, and the work doesn’t stop for the lads, training hard and preparing for a very tough final set of games.
