17 intrepid Wardle beavers walked nearly 4 miles from Watergrove Reservoir to Healey Dell Heritage Centre & Tea Rooms today to have Afternoon Tea followed by a climb up the steps of the Viaduct and a further 1 mile walk to go pond dipping.
Beavers found a lot of tadpoles, some water leaches and some little fishes then went to make a forest shelter better by adding some sticks and stones to it.
Well done beavers, you’ve had an amazingly scouting adventure in the very best countryside on a very sunny day.
Thank you so much to out leader volunteers who all gave up their day so the beavers could enjoy a splendid day out.

Well done to the 10 scouts from Wardle Scout Troop who have completed a 23 mile expedition this weekend to complete their Expedition Challenge Award.
Great weather 🌦️ saw them through the hike which had them setting off on Saturday morning from The White House, camping at Hebden Hey Scout Centre and hiking back along Rochdale Canal to Littleborough Summit.
Well done Scouts and a huge thank you to leaders and helpers for supporting them on their 2 day expedition.

New Volunteer Opportunities - join our team

Beavers are aged 6-8, have lots of fun and make new friends. Would you like to come and join our team of enthusiastic volunteers?

About Wardle Scout Group
Wardle Scout Group is a successful scout group within the community. We are planning a trip in August 2025 to attend Euro Disney and the PGL Centre just outside Paris. This would be for the Beaver and Cub ages 6-11. We last visited Euro Disney in August 2019, 6 months before the Covid lockdown. This experience leads us onto encourage all our members to make the most of the opportunities they are offered. Leaders will be given the opportunity to attend.
The volunteer opportunities are as follows:

On Monday evenings we have three regular volunteers already and need one additional team member to make a full team to lead sixteen young people into fun and adventure.

On Tuesday evenings we have one regular, lead volunteer. The other volunteers have recently moved on to assist with the older sections so we need up to three assistants in order to make the volunteering fun for the adult as well as the young people. We are currently running using parent helpers but need more committed volunteers.

If you'd like the comeraderie of working in a small team, want to make new friends and have lots of fun then please contact us via our Website: https://www.wardlescouts.org.uk/get-involved/become-a-volunteer/

Happy 18th Birthday to Josh Wellens who has been a Beaver, Cub, Scout, Explorer, Young Leader and represented the Scout Group at the World Scout Jamboree.
Josh has been a keen scout all through his full 12 years of membership in Scouting as a young person but no more so when he was a Sixer in cubs.
Josh proudly joins the volunteer ranks today as a leader in the Brown Wardle (Monday) Beaver colony.
We are so proud of all you have achieved.

Hi all, I just wanted to tell you all what a great weekend I had, it was fab and I am so proud of all of our Explorers.
The way they conducted themselves on camp was a credit to the group; they all got on well, did the jobs they were asked to do when they were asked to do them and did a fab job in their first Mudder Challenge.
Thanks to Lauren Aldred who told us about this camp and organised everything about the camp for us to go, Susan Tygga Wright for working with you guys to do the catering and Samuel Townsend who was adding Scout nights camping to his tally towards the 18 he has to clock up towards his Kings Scout Award. Brilliant weekend and I hope your young people all enjoyed it too.

Especially thank you to those Scouts, Explorers and leaders who came to help. What an achievement.

8 Explorer Scouts from our small village of Wardle will be setting off to Seoul in 50 days time. They have done so well raising £4,000 each to pay the fee whilst spending 16 nights away at training camps.
Whilst some of them are hard at exams, others' are now packing for our last training camp - a weekend in Paris to make sure we can Manoeuvre as a group through Manchester airport and the Metro - all skills they will need when we have our stopover in Soeul.
They are so excited.

This morning I saw a post on Rochdale Borough Noticeboard from a Mum of 6 saying she had no food or milk and no money. She lives on Wardle Road, Smallbridge.
At our meeting tonight, we emptied our cupboards and decided to prepare some meals with kids in mind.
The Explorers decided what we could cook with our ingredients and set to.
- 2 trays of Macaroni cheese
- 1 pasta bolognaise with beans
- 3 wrap pizzas
- 13 coffee and walnut muffins

This is the message I’ve received back after delivering them
“Thank you so so much the food is amazing you’re Scout Group is a life saver you have given me meals for my kids. I'm so so grateful”
We’ll done Wardle Explorers. You are awesome ! We do hope the family enjoys the meals we’ve cooked for them.
When i delivered the food, grandad told me the Cub Scout Promise. Once a Scout, always a Scout. Doubly pleased we have been able to give assistance to a scout in need.

We are very proud of Sam Townsend our Assistant Scout Leader at Wardle Scout Troop who is at Buckingham Palace today receiving his Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.
Whilst he gained the award with his school, Sam has chosen to wear his scout leader’s uniform to the palace.
Congratulations Sam.

Sam started in Wardle Scout Group as a beaver and has been a cub, scout and explorer with us. He left explorers just before lockdown and contacted us last year to volunteer to be a leader. Having young people back with the scout group makes us doubly proud - and they bring so much enthusiasm and energy with them.

Well this was a bit of a surprise. Wardle Explorers used one of these (Ridge Monkey) to cook Toad in the Hole and the verdict was ‘delicious’.
Explorers watch a YouTube video first and then just organised themselves to cook. What a successful evening!
