Incredibly pleased to have won in the category of Wellbeing, Sport and Leisure Shepton Mallet Town Council for Somerset business innovator awards. Hugely appreciate all those who voted for me but also knowing winning was done on merit of the service provided rather than just numbers.
I have said women, as there seems to be this constant pressure for women to transform, to be their best shape, that they aren't enough the way they are, smaller waist, bigger b***s, bigger ass, slimmer, more toned, look good in a bikini, long voluptuous hair, good skin, no wrinkles...the list goes on...
And the diet and fitness industry preys on this constant "transformation" in just 6, 8, 12 weeks when the reality is that yes you mayl see some improvements to your body in this time frame but that doesn't stick after that period of time if YOU don't stick to it and that why so many of those fitness and diet programs you've done have failed because once completed you revert back to your old habits.
My approach with clients has always been to work with where their mindset is at, what habits have they created, what is their view of their body and what can we implement for long term success and happiness not short term reward.
Real transformation comes from consistency.
It's really boring to hear, but that's the truth.
All those people you look to and admire for their body have put in years and years of work, not 6 weeks.
So, decide if you are trying to create a healthier lifestyle that is long lasting or are you planning to stay in the rhetoric that you need to demonise your body for what it is right now and punish it for the next "transformative X weeks"?!

Today is a BIG DAY ππ₯π€
2 years. Running my own studio.
2 years of building up a business in a remote location that I was asked before I even opened, "do you think anyone will come out here?"
2 years of developing yoga classes, retreats, personal training and semi private training.
YES, there have been things that have worked well and there have been things that fell flat on their face.
But I kept going. Even on the days when I was empty and had maybe 2 clients in my whole day. I utilised that time to do videos, market my business, offer my experience of training, life and managing mindset.
Today, I am so proud to be saying I am running a thriving wellbeing coaching business. Focusing not just on creating physically stronger bodies but minds as well.
It goes without saying that I am incredibly grateful to the clients I have had the privilege of training.
Developing an awareness of ourselves; what we deserve, how our bodies move, taking a moment to breathe and just be in the moment. Instilling the self belief of what we are truly capable of.
This is just the beginning.....

***NOT ALL CHANGES ARE PHYSICAL...."
But investing in the physical can promote improved mental and emotional fitness.
A year ago I set myself a goal. A goal which I once tried to achieve 5 or 6 years ago but due to various circumstances never materialised.
But, inspired by my many clients and seeing so many personal achievements attained from ; to reversing ; to completing to improving and . I felt compelled to actually set myself a personal target, to prove to myself, how capable I am too.
Along the line I have learnt that I do have willpower, determination and the ability to overcome physical health issues as well as mental and emotional stressors.
I have recognised the moments where I thought I had "done the work" only to realise the work is bumpy and may be a lifelong process and that that is actually ok. That is normal. And recently I felt a real sense of peace on this level.
Regardless of my goal, the fact remains that managing not just my physical body but my mental and emotional state, was achieved predominantly through exercise. Exercise that I love. Exercise that gave me a purpose. I see it all the time with clients. Clients who seem cowed, relentlessly "sorry" for just being, who have no self belief. Those same clients, weeks or months later, walk into my studio with self assurance, a belief in themselves and what they are truly capable of, they stand tall and strong. These are the people who inspire me daily.
Understand you must put yourself first to truly conquer you mind and body. All this will filter through into your day to day life from relationships to work to home. You will grow exponentially.

***GETTING OLDER? START LIFTING***
If you aren't already and those nagging aches and pains are really bothering you, you need to start lifting.
Lifting weight helps us to maintain or even increase muscle mass which in turn protects and is proven to improve brain, bone and joint health.
If you're worried about dementia (2/100 people end up with) , osteoporosis, hip replacements, going through the menopause or maybe you haven't even thought about it because you're "too young" , think again. How would you feel if you end up with any of these things?
Treat your body well by introducing resistance based exercise in to your day to day life and reap the benefits.
If you're complaining about being achy or this joint hurts or your back hurts, do something about it. Painkillers are not the answer. You are never too old to start lifting.

***THE JOURNEY TO RESULTS***
Oftentimes, we can become discouraged by not seeing results or the end goal fast enough. In a world of instant sensory gratification, from 20sec reels to 10 day fasts and weight loss it's hard to understand why we should "wait" to see improvements.
But that is exactly why everything we do when we turn up for ourselves in the form of movement is about. Small. Incremental. Improvements. Ideally we want to be improving and taking care of our body for a lifetime, not for one summer.
What if, instead of an end goal, we simply set intentions to be a bit better than last time. Or to turn up the next day and the next. Maybe our "goals" should instead be small everyday achievements and we should be celebrating those wins.
We have this one life to make the most of every day. No one knows what might happen the next day but they know exactly where they are right here and now. Make the most of it.
https://fb.watch/m2yZCZKGfN/
***LET'S TALK ABOUT WEIGHT LOSS... ***
Like all habits, creating small incremental habits that can positively impact our lives is one step, maintaining these habits over the course of a lifetime though can sometimes be tested by life itself and it's at these times that simply having a habit is not enough and understanding our mindset to do things differently may be the key to unlocking the real truths behind our response to food and drink in a crisis point.
These 3 tips may just help... Let me know. For members I go into more detail over these and a number of other pointers that may help to unravel the very things that are unravelling you and creating a hiccup in your journey to a healthier version of yourself.
Why do we feel the need to reach for all the food?
Do we blame it on our period (ladies), overwhelm, tiredness, sadness, stress?
Do we lose sight of why we started in the first place?
How do we feel after we've binged on food / drink?
Do you struggle to get back on track or try and restrict yourself even further?
Maybe you just don't see any progress?
Is your weight loss journey truly about just being smaller or is it something deeper and more important (reversing Ill health; creating a healthier body to create a family; improving longevity of our bones and brain)
Oftentimes the reason we start and the reason we continue are 2 different things.

***WANT TO GIVE UP***
Ask yourself, what your reason was for starting.
Look back at where you were and remind yourself of not only everything you have overcome but what you have learnt along the way.
Perhaps you have got stronger, faster, leaner or perhaps your mindset has changed for the better - becoming more resilient, confident, boundary setting, overcoming or managing your depression or anxiety better. Maybe it was to improve your overall health (reverse diabetes, improve heart health, be in the best health for potential pregnancy etc)
Maybe your goal was simply what got started. Maybe you need a new vision of what it is you truly want for yourself. But more importantly is it worth giving up after all the hard work?
If your goal is still the same, ask yourself, am I honestly turning up for myself on every possible way? Can I change the environment that I am in in terms of the people I surround myself with and the places I go. Are these having a positive or negative impact on my life?
https://fb.watch/lwrhhZWmc0/
***WHY TURNING UP ON THE BAD DAYS IS MORE IMPORTANT***
I'm as human as the next person. There are days when you're just tired, aching or just not feeling it. The days you turn up to the gym to see the "gym bunny" 2 benches down and decide you're not good enough. The days when the world feels just a bit too overwhelming.
All of those days should be considered our best days. The days we overcome our own internal dialogue whether of comparison, sadness or despair that things don't seem to be progressing. These are the days we learn so much more about ourselves.
Your ability to overcome those feelings, shows how much more important exercise / training is for our mental and emotional state than any aesthetic will ever fulfil.
Notice how you feel in your body. Do you stand taller, feel more confident, stronger, overall happier.
Do you look back at where you once were and pat yourself on the back at how much progress you have made.
Do you notice how your consistency to turn up for yourself runs into your daily life of what you are and are not will to consistently put up with or invest in.
What has training done for you?
Besides the aesthetic?

***FROM PRE DIABETIC TO REVERSING THE EFFECTS - 6 MTH CLIENT FOCUS***
Introducing....Michelle
"I knew I had reached a point where I needed to lose weight. I was having to buy the next size up in clothes, I felt old before my time, very self conscious and weak. Being menopausal just exacerbated the situation further!
After being told by the GP that I had high blood pressure and was pre-diabetic it all seemed like a very big mountain to climb. But here we are. Nutrition changes, regular exercise and a huge effort on willpower (those sweet treats still tempt me!), have served me well and I have lost just over a stone and dropped 2 dress sizes. I also feel much stronger. Moving forward I plan more of the same. It takes time, but for me it has to be done, for my long term health and my mental wellbeing. I hope that in another 6 months I will be off the blood pressure medication, that my blood sugar will be at a normal level and that I am maintaining the weight loss"
I am so proud of Michelle. She implements her daily habits, she has addressed her nutrition, she finds balance in terms of her diet with family, so still able to have a good social life, she chooses to do more, not because I ask her but because she asks that of herself. She gives 110% in her sessions.
I love her infectious laugh and banter and genuine determination in every session. The 3kg weights she started on have gone to the wayside as she becomes stronger and fitter.
I am excited to see what the next 6 months has in store for Michelle.
Prioritising yourself may seem a pipe dream but imagine that dream being a reality. Everyone's journey is different. Rapid results usually result in rapid unravels. Consistent and measured approaches to not just exercise and nutrition but also mindset are the keys to long term change.
Update; a week after this post Michelle was informed she is now no longer pre diabetic!! This is amazing news and shows the power of changing your lifestyle to improve your health. Well done Michelle

***HEALING FROM INJURY IS POSSIBLE***
I am always inspired by the clients who come to me with various injuries, long standing joint/muscular issues or those who are simply keen to bulletproof their body as they get older, as it's a sign that, despite what they may think at that moment in time when they first come to me, that their mindset has said "no more, we need to do something different" and in turn that they are open to change and what possibilities may lie in their body to heal.
In my own personal journey, my body has had to learn to heal from a number of abdominal operations and everytime I have worked hard to regain my body through body weight and weighted training, watching my nutrition as well as seeking external help from physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy.
Repairing and/ strengthening your body takes time, but it's worth it, to not be reliant on pain relief and ultimately feel more confident in your body.
The human body is a remarkably complex and resilient organism, capable of healing itself and getting stronger in a variety of ways which include;
Cellular regeneration
Old or damaged cells are replaced with new ones over time, allowing tissues and organs to recover from injury or disease
Inflammation
The body sends immune cells to the area to fight off infection and promote healing.
Muscle adaptation
When muscles are subjected to stress, such as through exercise or physical activity, they respond by adapting and becoming stronger
Bone remodeling
When bones are subjected to weight-bearing activity, they respond by remodeling themselves and becoming denser
Mind-body connection
Practices like meditation and mindfulness can promote healing and reduce inflammation
By taking care of our bodies through healthy habits like exercise, proper nutrition and stress reduction, we can help support these natural processes and promote optimal health and wellness
Seeing my clients overcome and create stronger bodies despite an injury that could have left them in permanent pain is testament to their own motivation and mindset.
Are you in pain? Are you unsure of the best way to overcome or manage a current injury? Are you simply looking to strengthen your body against ageing? Book a call today to get onto a path for healing your body
