Thanks to all the players and supporters who ventured across to Chard for the The Mick Halligan Memorial Cup.
An entertaining evening, which was well managed by referee, Dave Mealing, who kept things βevenβ throughout.
Wyvern got the result on the night, 31-41, but all agreed rugby was the winner, with a match played in a great spirit, by so many players of mixed ages, with so many people looking on.
And for those wondering who played for the Wyvern, hereβs the list, oldest to youngest:
Justin Block
Martin Howe
Andy Cunnington
Chris Richards
Pete Flook
Dave Hughes
Dan Nicolle
Andrew Freeman
Jim Morris
Nick Cooke
Doug Baker
Rich Carr
Brent Gillespie
Gary Harding
Lewis Tunnicliffe
George Taylor
James Bennet
Ben Dunton
Fin Ingham
Sam Smith
Joe Pow
Dan Holley
Jack Newstead
Toby Warner
Well done to each of the above, all of whom made a positive contribution to the evening.
Wyvern have a huge squad for the Mick Halligan Memorial Cup this Friday at Chard. With faces from across the decades it looks to be an entertaining evening, not least for those former players who know they can't, watching those who still think they can!
The match kicks off at 7.30pm and we hope to see a good crowd supporting both teams in a genuinely friendly fixture.
Congratulations to the squad who have finished top of Counties 4 Tribute Somerset South.
They have done so with a perfect record, winning 17 matches and having one walkover, giving them 90 points. With an average points score of 56, they have scored 953 points and conceded 140. A quick bit of maths indicates if they had played the match that was the walkover, they would have made 1000 points for the season!
Well done to everyone involved.

Congratulations!!!
It's the final League match of the season this afternoon, away against Yatton 2nds. Kick off 3.00pm.
The League is already won and promotion to Somerset 3 South is secured. π Congratulations to the squad and to our coaches, Jim Hassett and Dave Irons.
It just remains to see if the team can win again, making it 18 out of 18. Also, can they secure the bonus point which will make a perfect 90 points for the season. Let's face it, no one is going to bet against it, but while Dave is already getting the beers in, Jim will be running through all the possible outcomes and formulating strategies to mitigate against them.
Join us at Yatton to see the conclusion of what has been a fantastic season, whatever the outcome is.
COME ON YOU WYVERN!
Wyvern vs Morganians - kick off 2.30pm to be played on Bishop Foxes pitch. (Park at Wyvern as usual). GAME ON!
It's that stage of the season where the mind is willing, but the body is not able. Sadly, Minehead have a significant number of injuries amongst their squad, which leaves them unable to field a 2nd team for our fixture tomorrow. π
Not how we wanted to go 16 from 16 for the season, but with two matches to go this does pretty much assure our promotion. (Our Coach, Jim Hassett, will be reading this and gritting his teeth, as there are still technicalities by which we could still be caught. Our other Coach, Dave Irons, has his champagne on ice!).
For those who were planning to watch the Minehead game, please join us at 3.00pm in the bar where we will be watching Saracens vs Harlequins in the Premiership Rugby.
Next week (30th March) we play number two in the league, Morganians, who are the only team who can ruin the party. Join us at Mountfields Road for a 2.30pm Kick Off to see what is the season decider. However, our season actually finishes on the 6th April at Yatton 2nds.
After all the bad weather the Wyvern pitch is looking fantastic for the visit of Yeovil 2nds to Mountfields Road tomorrow. Kick off is 2.30pm.
Please come along a give your support as the lads continue their quest for promotion to Somerset 3 South.
We are delighted to inform you that the Mick Halligan Memorial Cup has been re-arranged for FRIDAY 19th APRIL at Chard Rugby Club. Kick off will be ... 7ish!! It might be a bit later, but we will be underway by 7.30pm.
As previously mentioned this will be under the 501 format, where both teams field 15 players whose cumulative age must be over 501 years. This is an opportunity for those "blasts from the past" to have 20 minutes in the limelight, so, if you didn't previously, please click on the Send a Message button below and offer yourself for 20 minutes of glory.
For those who just fancy a pint and raising a glass to Mick, please come along and join us. The more support the better.
Is this rugby at the Wyvern today? It could be and, as a result, our match versus Yeovil 2nds is postponed AGAIN!
For those who are frustrated as we are, please feel free to join us at The Wyvern to watch Ireland vs Wales at 2.15pm, followed by England vs Scotland at 4.45pm. We are confident these matches will not be called off!!
Weather permitting we will be playing a home fixture against Tor 2nds next week.
[For those intrigued by the photo, it's Water Rugby, which is played in various places around the world. It's played on a 35x40m floating pitch and to score, yes, you have to dive in! It's touch rules that are played between the goal lines, so there are no big hits, just big splashes!]
Regretfully this afternoon's match against Yeovil 2nds is postponed.
As you can see, the ground is so waterlogged there is just nowhere for the recent rains to soak away.
Wyvern welcome Yeovil 2nds to Mountfields Road this Saturday. Kick off is 2.30pm.
It's been several weeks since we last played, so let's hope the weather holds and this match actually takes place!
There's no Six Nations, so why not join us and cheer the team on as they strive to remain top of the league table.
We are disappointed to let you know that today's match against Morganians is, once again, postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch.
Let's keep our fingers crossed that things improve for next week when we are home against Yeovil 2nds.

We thought we should let you know that the Mick Halligan Memorial Match against Chard on Friday 9th February has been postponed, because our postponed fixture against Morganians has been rescheduled for Saturday 10th February.
We were hoping to provide you with the re-arranged date, but Chard are still checking things at their end, and with time ticking on, we felt we should say something.
For all those that had expressed an interest in 20 to 40 minutes in this 501 match (where the total ages of the players on each side needs to be over 501 years) please watch this space for news of when the match will proceed.
Apologies for the late notice, but we can confirm the pitch is playable and this afternoons match at Mountfields Road will proceed.
Wyvern welcome Weston Hornets 4ths for a 2.30pm kick off.
You might want to wrap up as low temperatures have been replaced by a cold wind.
We'll see you later.
Here's advanced notice of this season's Mick Halligan Memorial Cup between Wyvern and Chard. It will take place on Friday 9th February, under lights, at Chard. Kick Off to be confirmed.
Over this years this fixture has produced a mixed bag of results and, in an attempt to "level up" proceedings, this will be a 501 match, where the combined ages of the 15 players on each side (at any time) will be over 501 years.
We anticipate a few father and son combinations, as well as a few 'blasts from the past' putting their boots on.
If you fancy a run out for the Wyvern, then please send a message via messenger and we'll get back to you. If you know someone who might be interested, but is not on Facebook, then ask them to email [email protected].
For now the important thing is to get this on your diary!
It's 1 v 2 in the league tomorrow in Martock.
Yes, Wyvern are on the road to south Somerset and you are welcome to join them for a 2.30pm kick off.
There are no assumptions in this top of the table clash, which will either see Martock pull off an outstanding victory or Wyvern continue their dominant march to Somerset 3 South.
Today's match vs Hornets 4ths is postponed owing to a waterlogged pitch.
The last match of the year will be away against Martock next weekend. This will be a 2.30pm kick off.
Wyvern travelled to Minehead 2nds this weekend for what was something of a one sided affair, the visitors running out 5-82 winners.
Wyvern were clinical and made every visit to the home sides 22 count. While there was strong carrying by various forwards, it was the excellent handling throughout team that created the space and very much evidenced βthe ball moves faster than the manβ.
The scorers were:
Dan Holley β Fly Half
Charlie Hutchings β Centre (2)
Callum Jones β Back Row
Will Ramafono - Prop
James Bennett β Wing (3)
Archie Barrah β Scrum Half
Ben Salisbury β Flanker
Sam Smith β Flanker
Lewis Murray β Ho**er
Jack Odams β 2nd Row (2)
Conversions
Archie Barrah - 4
Rich Guest β Prop β 1
Guy Odams β 2nd Row β 1
Next weekend Wyvern will be at home vs Weston Hornets 4ths. Kick off 2.30pm
