York CVS

Supporting and championing York’s voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector. Every success story starts life as a small idea.

Since 1939, York CVS has been giving sound financial, legal and management advice to local charities, community groups and social enterprises – helping turn their ideas into a reality. It might be a group that gives disabled residents a voice. Or a support network for young carers. It could be a passionate lobbying group to protect the local area. What do you have planned for World Mental Health Day on October 10th?

✨ The Jordan Legacy is hosting a full-day event - 'Mind in Unity - fostering good mental health through collaboration' - to be held at the North Yorkshire The Police Treatment Centres conference suite in Harrogate.

As part of a broader Harrogate and North Yorkshire initiative, working in partnership with North Yorkshire Public Health, we have brought together more than a dozen speakers, who will showcase the diverse range of options available in the Yorkshire region to deal with issues such as workplace bullying, online safety for young people, the relationship with money and mental health, bereavement support, supporting men’s mental health, alcohol addiction and much more.

This is a valuable opportunity to learn more about the challenges faced in Yorkshire relating to mental health and the hope that is available in the region provided by those who are willing and able to support those who are struggling with a sense of entrapment or hopelessness.

The event is limited to just 50 places - full details, including how to book, are available via this Eventbrite page: https://lnkd.in/euGaW5kV.

Steve Phillip is also delighted, following a several year absence, to have re-joined Harrogate District Chamber of Commerce, who have kindly shared the event with members on this page of their website: https://lnkd.in/eVwzYEhT.

We look forward to seeing everyone on the 10th October and remember spaces are limited!

Join Us for an Interactive Night Walk to Support Survivors of Domestic Abuse

York, UK — 13th August 2024 — One in Four Walk is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever "Starlight Stroll," an interactive night walk through the historic streets of York, aimed at raising funds and awareness for domestic abuse survivors. The event will take place on Thursday 10th October 2024, starting at 6:00 PM from York St John University.

Participants will embark on an engaging 4-kilometre journey guided by volunteers, passing iconic York landmarks such as the Red Tower, the City Walls and ending at York Minster. Along the route, walkers will experience a series of interactive installations and performances, including live poetry, storytelling, and performance, each designed to highlight hidden signs of abuse but to also inspire hope, resilience, and conversation.

"We wanted to create an event that not only highlights the strength and courage of those affected by domestic abuse but shines light on smaller signs of abuse that often go unnoticed," said Emma Rollason-Taylor, Founder of One in Four York. "The Starlight Stroll is a unique way to show our support and raise essential funds to help survivors rebuild their lives as well as educate and battle stigma."

Registration for the Starlight Stroll is now open. Participants can sign up individually or as teams, with a registration fee of £10 per person, which includes a commemorative t-shirt and props for the performances. All proceeds from the event will directly support Kyra Women's Project programs and activities, including counselling, group support and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic abuse.

In addition to the walk, there will be a post-event gathering at York Minster, featuring a 2-person performance from Soundproof Box about coercive control. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to get involved through sponsorships or by donating refreshments and services along the route. Volunteers are also encouraged to share their stories through the One In Four social media platforms. Stories can remain anonymous and will be shared by actors in creative ways, highlighting the smaller signs of abuse that can escalate.

"Domestic abuse affects people from all walks of life, and it is crucial that we come together as a community to support those in need," said Rollason-Taylor. "We invite everyone to join us for a night of reflection, education, and hope."

To register for the Starlight Stroll, share your story, or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.oneinfour.co.uk or contact Harriet Stainton at [email protected].

☎️ The way we communicate is changing.

Our old telephone lines are being replaced with a digital network. This means a more reliable, future proof service that will support the UK and its residents for years to come.

It will affect anything that sends a signal through the old line, from personal alarm buttons to old-style home telephones.

Anyone with these services should check if the will affect them, so their service isn’t disrupted.
