Nikka Black Deep Blend Extra Sweet

Oversea Tasting Note:

Nose: Orange marmalade spread on a piece of warm honey toast in the morning. Okay, this is actually making me hungry. There's a tiny bit of oak hiding in the background too.

Palate: 46% isn't so common for a Nikka, but I wouldn't have guessed that had it not been written on the bottle. Compared to the nose the sweetness certainly isn't in the palate, though the mouthfeel is noticeably thick and gives away the youth. While it's very bittersweet grain-forward, there's a hint of vanilla milkiness and smoke as well. Extra sweet: not really.

Finish: Probably my favorite part of this release, as there's more depth here. The peat comes out quite a bit more, and reveals some nice dry woodiness towards the end. This is actually starting to taste like a whisky...

After drink desserts...

Glenfiddich Vintage Cask

This smoky dram was matured in European oak and bourbon casks, resulting in bundles of wonderful chocolatey fruit notes, pairing rather well with the wafts of coastal air.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A lovely coastal note, sea salt, hay, some dark chocolate, touch of spice and a lovely mild smokiness.

Taste: A lovely mild creamy peat tanginess. The vanilla sweetness and smoke balance well. Some citrus fruitiness, oak spice, gentle vanilla fudge and a touch of cinnamon.

Finish: Creamy vanilla coated in sweet peat and oak spice continues long into the mildly drying finish.

Comment: The Glenfiddich Vintage Cask has the fruity sweet Glenfiddich notes we know and love but coated in a lovely unique smokiness. A unique complex and very easy to drink expression of Glenfiddich, and one to look out for on your Glenfiddich malt journey.
