Wishing everyone a peaceful and healthy Christmas & New Year

07/12/2023

Now that we are in full swing of the festive season, a season for over indulgence in every way, christmas parties, drinks, feasts, stress are all in over drive, which really goes against the true nature of this time of year. Our regular eating habits sleep, physical activity alcohol intake all seem to go out of balance during the christmas season.
During this time of year a typical list of gut symptoms include
Upset stomach
-Nausea
-Heartburn
-Diarrhoea or constipation
-Gas
-Bloating
-Belching and fullness

Some helpful tips to get through the lead up to Christmas prepare yourself now by making choices that feed the beneficial organisms in your gut microbiome and enhance gut health:
-Eat more fiber to help your gut microbe with over indulgent foods eg brussle sprouts, beets, carrotts, brocoli, legumes, pears, oats ,apples so much to choose from.
- Include gut supporting supplements, Kefir (Liquid gold) probiotic
- Digestive enzymes before meals (handful of rocket leaf before your meal)
-Include lots of brightly coloured fruits in place of chocolate, apples, pears, berries, tangerinines satsumas, melons.
-Choose nuts over crisps
- Have herbal tea after dinner instead of coffee mint tea for example supports digestion ,ginger or fennel or chamomile can all help sooth the gut.
-Regular alcohol consumption
- Maintain a high level of hydration
- Stick to only one big meal a day
- Take time when eating , chew your food properly enjoy each mouthful, notice when you are getting full

Have a shopping list to reduce any shopping anxiety and risk of over spending.
Allocate some time daily to exercise and relaxation/ mediate / breath deeply practice some gentle Qi Gong or Yoga.

If your feeling overwhelmed by it all on a physical or emotional level why not book yourself in for an acupuncture or holistic treatment to rebalance the effects of overindulgence.

Yours in health
Merry Christmas to everyone
Róisín

Facial Asthetics Clinic starting from next week Thursday 15th September.
Facial Rejuvenation - Natural Botox - Micro-needling

What is Micro-needling?

Micro-needling is also referred to as skin needling, collagen induction therapy and micro-needling therapy. Micro-needling is the ultimate non-surgical and non-ablative treatment. As the very fine micro-needles puncture the skin , they trigger the bodies healing response. This "minor trauma" that is caused in the lower levels of the dermis stimulates the body to start producing proteins and collagen.
Micro-needling leads to increased production of Elastin, Collagen, and improves circulation in the local area.
through the process of neovascularization and neocollagensis, there is improvement in the skin texture and firmness, as well as reduction in scars, pore size and stretch marks.
In the clinic I use the Dr Dermic Pen.
The Dr Dermic Pen is the most professional and hygenic micro-needling device on the market. It has an 11 pin head with adjustable depths and speed.
The high speed needles considerably reduces treatment time , this decrease patient discomfort and speeds recovery. The micro-needle cartridges are single use, which eliminates the risk of infection and costs less than traditional rollers.

If you are interested in this natural facial rejuvenation please DM .
Places are filling quick there are two slots available for next Thursday 15th.

Exciting news!!! I will be running a Facial Asthetics clinic in September more information to follow.

Summer: The Season of Abundance; the Element of Fire

Summer Solstice 21st June marks the beginning of the season of abundance. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it is the most Yang day of the year. In TCM Summer is the season associated with the element of Fire, the organs associated with Summer are the Heart and Small Intestine, the heart is the Emperor of the human body, it governs blood and is responsible for the Shen (Mind), the emotion is joy the taste is bitter the color is red.

Summer is a time of growth and expansion, light, abundance and movement. It is a great time to continue or start Chinese Medicine treatments that are uplifting or tonifying for Yang, Qi and Blood.

Fire is yang in its expression. An excess of fire can be common in the Summer with the fire element and heat of the season. This may manifest physically as fever, headaches, thirst, dry nasal passage, inflammation, heartburn, insomnia, agitation, nervousness. Too much fire dries out our internal fluid balance in the digestive tract this can result in constipation. Fire has an ascending property and tends to commonly affect the upper body, mouth ulcers, gum problems, dryness of the mouth, and red eyes are great examples of excess fire.
When the fire element is in balance the heart is strong and healthy the mind is calm and sleep is sound.

Summer Self Care Practice

This is a time for growth and expansion. Allow yourself to stay out later, socialize with people who bring you joy, make time to play, seek activities that bring you joy and put you in a state of flow. Nourish creative projects.
Wake up earlier in the morning, go to bed later.
Rest at midday, the small intestine optimal functioning time is between 1pm-3pm. Where possible take time to rest, lie down around this time so that your digestive system can function at an optimal level.
Water to balance the fire element, cool baths showers, swim in the ocean.
TCM based nutrition categorizes food based on their energetic properties and temperature. Eating foods that are moistening and cool in nature will help keep you hydrated. Examples of cooling foods are Alfalfa sprouts, Asparagus, Bamboo shoot,Broccoli, Celery, Chicory, Lettuce, Watercress. The taste associated with Fire is bitter so try bitter greens like Rocket, Spinach, Kale. Swiss Chard in your diet.
Eat slowly, enjoy the flavors of the vegetables and fruits in their season.
Drink lots of fresh water. The sun will take the moisture from your pores so it is important that you rehydrate, drink 8-10 oz glasses of water daily.

The legendary Yellow Emperor who is regarded as the founder of Traditional Chinese Medicine wrote the following in the ancient text book. " The Yellow Emperors Classic Of Internal Medicine"

"In the 3 months of summer there is an abundance of sunshine and rain. The heavenly energy descends and the earthly energy rises. When these energies merge, there is in*******se between heaven and earth. As a result, plants mature a flowers and fruits appear abundantly.

One may retire somewhat later at this time of year, while still arising early. One should refrain from anger and stay physically active to prevent the pores from closing and the chi from stagnating. One should not over indulge in s*x, although one can indulge a bit more than in other seasons. Emotionally it is important to be happy and easy going and not hold onto grudges so that the energy can flow freely"

These words we written about 4,000 years ago and are still relevant today.

In Health and Happiness
Wishing everyone a joyous wonderful summer

I had the pleasure of attending a workshop and in person training on the clinical use of many different kinds of medicinal mushrooms (the first in almost 18 months) with the wonderful Martin Powell last weekend. Thanks to Ross and Marina of Ivywood who invited Martin over from the UK 🙏.
I'm thrilled to have the knowledge and a much better understanding of how we can incorporate the use of medicinal mushrooms safely into any treatment plan with my clients.
I'm delighted to have my doors open again in clinical practice and to share the value these incredible healing fungi have to offer.
My clinic is now fully stocked in wide range of medicinal mushrooms.
If your interested please don't hesitate to DM for an appointment.

I had the most amazing weekend working at and being part of The Yoga Shed with the amazing Elaine Harris second retreat up in hills in Glendalough.

What a pleasure to be part of such a magic weekend immersed in yoga and complemented with an introduction to the incredible healing arts of Ayurveda with Retna (Ayurvedic Queen) who came over from London to teach us and prepare the most delicious nutritious foods made with love (thank you Retna)

Maeve McCarthy (Balance & Breath Holistic’s) and myself offered treatments where we converted the stunning Pods into a beautiful healing space for those attending the retreat.

The Glendalough Glamping is immaculate and nestled nicely on the hills of Laragh one of my favorite places to be in Wicklow 💗 it’s open till the end of October check it out.

Still feeling the zen from the weekend.
Thank you Elaine and Mary & Retna for such a beautiful nurturing weekend. I look forward to the next one.

The Yoga Shed will be starting back classes soon.
