EVENT:
Acupuncture's Journey to the West and its Future. Are we thriving or surviving?
Saturday November 4th at 2pm
Odeon Point Square Cinema, Dublin
Tickets €15
(Profits going to ARC Cancer Acupuncture Support centres in Dublin and Cork.)
CPD points available
This event, co-hosted by the Acupuncture Professional bodies in Ireland (ACI and AFPA) in conjunction with the BAcC is a must for acupuncturists, students of TCM and those with an interest in the future of the profession in Ireland. It is open to all and funds generated from the event will be going to ARC Cancer Support in Dublin and Cork.
The presentation will consist of a film screening of the award winning documentary Journey to the West, followed by a presentation and discussion on our profession hosted by Jasmine Uddin: Are we Thriving or Surviving?
Journey to the West traces Chinese Medicine’s journey to the UK and explores the challenges of recognition where the dominant culture is against you. This ground-breaking documentary, produced by The TCM Development Trust and directed by Zoe Coldham, introduces Chinese Medicine’s understanding of health and illness as a platform from which to explore the ‘Catch 22’ that surrounds the profession’s struggle for acceptance.

Thriving or Surviving
Are we where we want to be as a profession? I suspect the answer is no, so what is it that has held us back - the powers that be, or ourselves, or a combination of both? Or other factors? Do we have the courage and honesty to ask some difficult questions and be honest and courageous enough to contemplate the answers?
In this presentation we would like to explore with you issues around our identity and relevance in a changing healthcare environment, looking at the factors that may have eroded or augmented our confidence as a profession. Stereotypical perceptions of our profession still persist, which only gaining statutory recognition may change. Is the educational model we have developed fit for purpose or should it be revised to better achieve our goals, assuming there is general agreement about what those goals are?
Jasmine Uddin is President Emeritus of BAcC, Vice Chair of the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board, Founding member of the European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association (ETCMA), Editor of the European Journal of Oriental Medicine. We are so excited she is taking time out to come host this presentation and discussion in Dublin. It is an event for a good cause and is not to be missed.

Such A Treat ✨️The Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
To increase the concentration of oxygen in the bloodstream, to help the body to cope with the effects of ageing, stress, and other conditions that can leave us feeling less than 100%.
Staying in a high-pressure chamber breathing pure oxygen is hugely beneficial and releases a hyperoxygenation effect allowing oxygen to be carried to areas where circulation is diminished, hypoxic or blocked. The blood carries that extra oxygen to damaged tissues, then the body starts its natural healing mechanism.
*Increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, allowing red blood cells to pass more easily through the plasma to help heal a wound from the inside out.
* Increases the rate of healing tissue and salvages limbs that otherwise may have been lost.
* Speeds up the healing process of your wound or ulcer to ultimately improve your quality of life
*An effective treatment for people with chronic wounds, such as diabetic ulcers and non-healing surgical wounds.
*Improves Brain Function and cognitive abilities, making it a useful tool for people with conditions such as traumatic brain injury, stroke, and cerebral palsy. The increased oxygen levels in the bloodstream help to reduce inflammation and promote the growth of new brain cells, leading to improvements in cognitive function, memory, and overall brain health.
*Enhances Athletic Performance
*Treats Diving Injuries
*Reduces Symptoms of Chronic Illnesses.HBOT has been shown to help reduce the symptoms such as fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, and chronic fatigue syndrome.
HBOT offers a wide range of benefits for people with a variety of health conditions.

Acupuncture Restores The Balance In Your Body
Life is based on balance. Rest and exercise, work and play, give and take.
Acupuncture restores the balance, thereby eliminating the symptoms and strengthening the body's own systems to cure the problem.
Maintaining a healthy life balance is not only essential for happiness and well-being; it can be a tremendous boost to your productivity and career or business success as well.
A well-balanced person has a far greater ability to focus their attention and energy on attaining their goals, taking productive actions and moving forward in a meaningful way.
Talk with your acupuncturist about the symptoms you are experiencing so a treatment can be tailored and the imbalance corrected – All you have to do is maintain it!

Acupuncture for Stress and Anxiety
Acupuncture points can help energy flow smoothly, and alleviate stress and anxiety altogether by releasing endorphins, which are natural pain-killing chemicals in the brain. Acupuncture improves the circulation of blood throughout the body, which oxygenates the tissues and cycles out cortisol and other unwanted chemicals. The calming nature of acupuncture also plays a factor in decreasing stress. This helps lower your blood pressure, decrease your heart rate and relaxes your muscles.
In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), emotions and physical health are intimately connected. This integrated mind-body approach to health and healing operates in a dynamic loop where emotions impact the health of the body and vice versa.
Acupuncture Awareness Week commences this week (Monday 7th March)
This year, the Acupuncture Council of Ireland is taking the opportunity to highlight the supportive role of acupuncture for those undergoing cancer treatment. Clinical research suggests that acupuncture can provide clinical benefit for cancer patients with treatment related side effects such as nausea and vomiting, pain, post chemotherapy fatigue, dry mouth, stress and anxiety. Our acupuncturists and many cancer support centres use acupuncture to treat these and other symptoms. This short video highlights the work being undertaken in the ARC Cancer Support Centres in Ireland who offer free treatments to support those undergoing cancer treatment.
