The doctor's qualification is MBBS, MD
We often find ourselves too shy to clarify things straight up with our doctors, especially with our gynaecologist, because the topic is very sensitive. We hesitate because we have been discouraged from having an open discussion about s*xual health, needs, and situations. However, it's essential to break the taboo and step forward so that awareness and prevention measures can come in handy. It can save lives in critical ways. No question is stupid. No health inquiry is irrelevant. So raise your voices with the right questions, and feel free to ask away!

Malaria is a mosquito-borne disease that kills hundreds of thousands of people, mainly children, every year. Malaria's symptoms are caused by parasites and not mosquitoes. Malaria is transmitted when infected mosquitoes bite and inject malaria parasites into their human victim.
Here are some preventive measures you can take to control malaria and stop it from spreading further.
1. Wear full sleeve protective clothing.
2. Spray mosquito repellents.
3. Use a mosquito net at night as mosquitoes get active during the night and pose a higher risk.
4. Keep your home and surroundings clean without junk, waste, or stagnant water.
5. As soon as you find any possible signs of malaria, consult your doctor immediately.

Blazing heat and energy-sapping humidity can spell doom on your health in summer. So make sure you are correctly armed with a nutritious diet to fight off summer meltdown!
Include water-rich fruits in your diet. One of our seasonal favourites is Watermelon. Being a rich source of Vitamin A, it is good for your eyes and immunity. In addition, citrulline plays an important role in the synthesis of nitric oxide, which helps lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels. Potassium aids in crucial heart functions, improves muscle work, and strengthens bones.
Make a salad with fresh sprouts or nuts, or juice it up with a pinch of rock salt; Watermelon can energise you right away with a dash of much needed freshness anytime of the day.

Arguably, the period sync-up hypothesis divides social beliefs into two categories - some believe pheromones cause period sync-up. Pheromones are similar to hormones but work outside of the body. They induce activity in other individuals, such as s*xual arousal. Therefore, when a female having a period lives with another female, due to pheromone interaction, periods can sync up. Interestingly insects secrete pheromones to communicate. However, medical researchers have not established a significant communicative response between human pheromones, which is why this belief is shunned by many. The other group offers a straight logic that periods are a 27 days recurring event whereby the natural tendency of two women's menstrual cycles is bound to coincide.

Anyone who experiences extreme pelvic pain during menstruating days should get checked for endometriosis.
Commonly the endometrial lining is present inside the uterus. Endometriosis is a condition in which the endometrial tissue appears outside the uterus.
How effective is surgery?
Hysterectomy with oophorectomy, i.e. removal of the ovaries, can be an effective option for endometriosis. However, the success rate is around 85%.
While surgery can help relieve pain, there is no guarantee that it will cure endometriosis. Since it is impossible to remove every cell of endometrial tissues, symptoms can recur, and the pain can be back even after 2-4 years of surgery.
Endometriosis and pregnancy problems
Removing both ovaries may provide long term relief from endometriosis. However, in such a scenario, pregnancy becomes impossible. Many women with endometriosis can conceive naturally, but those who suffer from severe symptoms may have difficulty getting pregnant.
Since no case is identical, consulting a specialist to understand the treatment, hormone therapy, and recovery is recommended.

If Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS is diagnosed and managed in time, it is not impossible to become pregnant and conceive a healthy baby.
Medical studies reveal that 70% of women with PCOS take longer than usual to become pregnant and require fertility treatment.
What happens in PCOS?
The body produces higher levels of androgens, a type of hormone that is important for developing male reproductive organs and traits.
High levels of androgens interrupt ovulation - the normal development and release of eggs. Without the release of healthy eggs, fertilization becomes a problem which is why pregnancy complications may arise.
How to identify PCOS?
Check for
- Excessive hair growth, especially on the back, chest and limbs
- Erratic and irregular periods
- Ovarian cysts
- Weight problems, especially gaining fat around the abdomen
- Acne-prone skin
- Male pattern baldness and hair thinning issues
How to check PCOS
To check PCOS, regulating menstruation is a vital treatment factor.
Talk to your gynaecologist about medications that can help you have regular periods. Also, consider making some lifestyle changes like losing weight, coping with stress better, controlling diabetes, regular exercises and a healthy diet.
Where to start?
PCOS patients keen to conceive must work with a fertility specialist for a safe pregnancy.

While hot water bottles, heat pads and electric blankets are helpful, they may cause overheating and end up interfering with sleep. So wearing cotton or woollen socks is an excellent idea to get ample warmth for keeping your feet warm. However, ensure that you wear socks that are not too tight, and avoid compression socks unless advised by a doctor.
