Today, Youth and Women for Peace and Sustainable Development (YOWPSUD) and the office of the Kilifi county Commissioner with support from GCERF through ACT! hosted a stakeholders' roundtable at Mnarani Club, gathering key players from the private sector, state actors, civil society organizations, the Kwale Secretariat on PCVE, and youth from Kilifi County. The focus was on reviewing progress in implementing the economic pillar of the Kilifi County Action Plan.
Notable attendees included Kilifi County Deputy Governor Florence Chibule, Chief Liaison Officer NCTC Joseph Kanyiri, representatives from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, and the informal sector, including the Jua Kali Association among others.
Youth involved in YOWPSUD’s ARIVE project shared their experiences in building their resilience and accessing socio-economic opportunities in both formal and informal sectors. The project has supported 120 youth from four sub-counties in Kilifi County, enhancing their life skills and expanding their networks to reduce their vulnerability to violent groups.
The forum emphasized the need for a multi-sectoral and coordinated approach to implementing the economic pillar of the Kilifi County Action Plan in addressing violent extremism. Both the private sector and key state actors committed to supporting youth with job and training opportunities. The forum concluded with an agreement to establish an economic sector working group comprising the private sector and other key stakeholders.

World Youth Skills Day, observed globally on July 15th each year, is a significant event that emphasizes the importance of equipping young people with essential skills for employment, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. This day highlights the pivotal role of skills development in empowering youth to effectively tackle present and future challenges.
This year’s theme “ Skills for Peace and Development” correlates with YOWPSUD’s core focus of empowering youth and women through diverse skills training initiatives.
Recognizing the significance of self-reliance, YOWPSUD supports youth and Women access diverse vocational training programs ,digital skills and to become positive social change agents in their communities promoting Peace and Development. Our programs are crafted to impart practical skills necessary for securing jobs and in establishing entrepreneurial ventures. As a result of this support, YOWPSUD contributes to reducing unemployment and promoting economic independence, fostering socio-economic advancement within coastal communities. Over the past four years, more than 500 youth have benefited from YOWPSUD's economic empowerment and peacebuilding programs.
