Today, Youth and Women for Peace and Sustainable Development (YOWPSUD) and the office of the Kilifi county Commissioner with support from GCERF through ACT! hosted a stakeholders' roundtable at Mnarani Club, gathering key players from the private sector, state actors, civil society organizations, the Kwale Secretariat on PCVE, and youth from Kilifi County. The focus was on reviewing progress in implementing the economic pillar of the Kilifi County Action Plan.

Notable attendees included Kilifi County Deputy Governor Florence Chibule, Chief Liaison Officer NCTC Joseph Kanyiri, representatives from the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM), the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce, and the informal sector, including the Jua Kali Association among others.

Youth involved in YOWPSUD’s ARIVE project shared their experiences in building their resilience and accessing socio-economic opportunities in both formal and informal sectors. The project has supported 120 youth from four sub-counties in Kilifi County, enhancing their life skills and expanding their networks to reduce their vulnerability to violent groups.

The forum emphasized the need for a multi-sectoral and coordinated approach to implementing the economic pillar of the Kilifi County Action Plan in addressing violent extremism. Both the private sector and key state actors committed to supporting youth with job and training opportunities. The forum concluded with an agreement to establish an economic sector working group comprising the private sector and other key stakeholders.
