Introducing our Term 3 event for 2024- Speed Planting!

Join us on July 27th at Lake Ellesmere for tree planting with a twist. Teams will compete to plant the most trees and tackle mystery challenges, all while helping to finish establishing a newly created wildlife reserve that provides vital native habitats for local species.

There will be plenty of spot prizes and fantastic rewards for the winning team. Plus, we’ll keep you fueled with a delicious BBQ and snacks throughout the day.

Uni hall in the lead !! The winners of the interhall competition will take home a trophy and a mystery prize for their whole hall. We are only half way through the year so there is still loads of time to get involved, every hour counts to get your hall in the lead.

Start your semester by joining us for a planting day at the Hilltop Reserve in Banks Peninsula.

Meet at Haere-Roa at 8:50am, to leave at 9am. Volunteering will take place from 10-12am, followed by a free BBQ lunch. Then, spend the afternoon exploring Akaroa! We will aim to arrive back on campus around 3pm or a little later.

Tickets are FREE but we have a limited number of spots available, so be sure to get yours fast! Tickets include transport, a BBQ lunch and an awesome morning volunteering in the community.

Unfortunately the red zone restoration project today has been cancelled due to bad weather.

Get involved in a red zone restoration project ! This coming Thursday the 20th of June. The project will involve planting, w**ding and mulching.

This is just a quick post to mention that our platoons team have organised a bbq dinner afterwards at the SVA office for Avoca Valley volunteers 😁😋 Just another reason to sign up now!! But did you reallyyy need another one?

Hey team! Get away from your study and touch some grass... Or plant some trees!! 🌲🌳

This Saturday 8th of June we will be heading out to Avoca Valley in the Port Hills to help out with the Summit Road Society's restoration work. Eventually, they hope to restore 38ha of the valley to create a beautiful natural reserve!!

Make sure to download and/or sign up on the SVA app! We will be leaving at 12pm, so meet at Harae Roa before then! Aiming to he back at 5pm 😁😊

Only 5 days to go for camp!! Introducing our fabulous accomodation - The Smith Farm Holiday Park 🤩🤩 We're so grateful to be staying at this beautiful spot on a working farm!

The majority of us will be camping in tents, however there are some cabin spots. You will be able to see some farm animals and explore the nearby areas a little bit 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️(waterfalls and glow worm grottos anyone?) We'll also be completing part of our Sunday Mahi here, but more to come on that later....

Afternoon everyone! Get away from your study for a little bit this weekend and come do some volunteering!! This Sunday we'll be down at the Charlesworth reserve completing some planting 🌲🌿 Meet at Harae Roa at 9.15am -we are expecting to be back at 1pm. As is usual, transport and food are provided!

Please ensure you're wearing study footwear. We'll be working alongside the Avon-Heathcote Estuary Ithutai Trust who have asked us to wear long sleeve shirts + pants to avoid any scratches! Get all the details on our app, looking forward to seeing you 😊😊

We'll all be meeting at Haera Roa 10.30am on Friday 10th of May and returning Sunday night. All food, transport and accomodation is sorted with your $20 ticket!! There will be a variety of volunteering events but you'll also have some time to explore waterfalls, beaches, glowworms and tracks in the nearby areas 🌲🏞⛰

Hey all, sadly the original planting event this weekend was cancelled... HOWEVER our awesome platoons team have organised a replacement event at thistledown reserve completing maintenance work!! 🤩

This will involve planting, mulching, pruning and clearing the streams. Experience is recommended as it will be physical 💪💪 Gumboots and/or sturdy footwear are required due to mud. Meeting at Haere Roa at 9.30am this Sat. As always, all details are on our SVA app - sign up today!!

Kia Ora Everyone, get yourselves excited for our first camp of the year!! From the 10-12th of May, we will be travelling somewhere 🤔 for a fantastic weekend of volunteering.

First things first, you have 24 hours (until 4pm tomorrow) to guess the location of camp for a free ticket!! The person who gets the closest win will then be contacted on instagram/facebook for how to receive their free ticket.

After the 24 hours is up, camp location will be revealed on socials and around campus (keep an eye out for our posters). Tickets will be out on Friday with further deets still coming..... 😁😝

University of Canterbury Conservation Volunteers New Zealand

Camp may have been rained off, but never fear - there is still more volunteering fun to be had! Join us tomorrow (Saturday) for a morning of tree planting at Waikuku Beach with the Waimakariri District Council, with a free BBQ lunch. The aim is to plant 1200 seedlings!

University of Canterbury Waimakariri District Council

Unfortunately due to severe weather risk, Kaiteriteri Camp has been cancelled.

Although this was a tough decision to make, we will work towards organising alternative volunteering projects this weekend to make the most of the resources we've prepared for camp.
