To all our members, the executive committee would be very grateful if you could attend the SGM on Sunday 3rd November. We require a quorum to accept the changes to the constitution that are a requirement of the 2022 Incorporated Societies Act. We also have Dr Shruthi Sateesh a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Otago speaking about her research in MS. And there is a free lunch 😀
This is also an opportunity to engage with the committee and let us know what we can do to help you.
Hope to see you there!
Claire Hargest (vice-president)

Members of the public of all ages were enjoying the sun at Wingatui Racecourse on Sunday, for the inaugural Move for MS fundraiser run by the Otago Multiple Sclerosis Society.
This week Katie will be at the Monday support group at Vogel Street Kitchen at 11:30am on Monday the 7th of October and the North Otago support group at 11:30am at the Brydone Hotel cafe on Tuesday the 8th of October.
Good morning
We are pleased to see that the rain has settled overnight and it seems as though the worst of the weather seems to be behind us.
Our thoughts are with those who have been affected by the flooding and those who have clean up ahead of them.
We have made the decision to go ahead with the Move for MS event tomorrow as planned. We believe that with the stressful events of the last few days that giving people the opportunity to come together and have fun is important.
Please be aware that the flooding has impacted some of our vendors and therefore some stalls may be different than previously advertised.
We have also had some volunteers affected so there may be some longer waits for some activities.
If you have already bought a ticket and you have been impacted by the flooding and are therefore no longer able to attend please email [email protected] for us to organise a refund for you.
Ticket sales close at 11:59pm tonight so if you want to come along and race please make sure you buy your tickets today!

If you want to come along and not race please feel free to do so! Just turn up after 11am at Wingatui Racecourse.
Good morning everyone.
Our thoughts are with those affected by the current flooding in the Dunedin and Otago area.
We would like to remind everyone to please follow the guidelines put out by our emergency management team who are working so hard to protect our area and and our people.
If you need assistance please call DCC on 03 477 4000
If you require emergency assistance please call 111
Take care of yourselves, and each other as we work through this event and the recovery period once the rain subsides tonight.
Thank you Brenda for coming to talk with Lorraine and Katie about our Move for MS event.

MSOTAGO
The Otago Multiple Sclerosis Society aims to empower people with MS and their families by providing them with professional support, education, information, services and skills to participate in the community in ways that are meaningful to them.
Multiple Sclerosis New Zealand Incidence Data reports 48 people in Otago and Southland were newly diagnosed in 2014. National mortality figures estimate that there are currently 4,098 people with MS in New Zealand, with 330 plus PwMS in the Otago region. The Otago Multiple Sclerosis Society is the only provider in the Region that offers support for individuals with MS and with other debilitating and related neurological diseases, including Huntington’s, Motor Neuron, Arachnoiditis, Tomaculous Neuropathy and Polymyositis.
Our Society advocates for people in the Otago region to ensure access to the appropriate health care, resources and services that will improve their well-being and quality of life. It provides up-to-date information through the internet, hard copy publications, seminars and talks about the disease and its day to day management. We also provide individual support - home visits, arrangement of access to free transport to hospital appointments, and a range of therapeutic and social activities. A key service for those newly diagnosed, as well as longer established clients, as a network access to providers in the health sector and ancillary services in the Community. Given the unpredictable nature of the disease, the Society actively engages with clients to minimise social isolation and offers whatever assistance is required to self-manage their lives.
As of late 2017, the Otago Multiple Sclerosis Society began to form a new team - a new Administrator and new Field Officer - and in January 2018 we elected a new Committee. We are a Team who are completely focused on doing the very best we can to support PwMS!
