[Exercise - OFF PEAK TIME OPENING]

What does it mean?

-If the class times don't work for you, or you feel like working out at your own pace, or the class is fully booked, you can come at Off Peak time to get it done.

-You can choose on the HQ App Library any session from the week's general program. Whether be Strength, Functional or Recovery protocols.

-If you have any current pain, injury, ni**le or anything that is stopping you from partaking a programmed group session, we can set you up with a personalised program.

What time is OFF PEAK? Starting on 1st of February.

Weekdays:
- 8 am to 12 pm morning slot.
- 2 pm to 4.30 pm afternoon slot.

Weekends (except when workshops on):
- 10 am to 8 pm.

Is it safe?

- Your physical integrity is paramount to us. To keep our facilities safe at quiet times and also to be able to watch your technique and pass on some valuable feedback to you, we are installing security cameras in the open spaces, not in the toilets! We trust you are all good with us looking after you :)

- Many of our programs are body weight sequences and you can do them from the comfort of your home and a screen.

[Functional Creativity]

I have been pondering about my conflict with this topic for a while. The culturally instilled concept of "being the best".

Since day one it appears to me at least, the predominant message to the masses has been always the same, sometimes more evident than others. Even for those of us who were lovingly raised by caring and supportive positive role models, the underlaying memo is that in order to do well in this society, you got to be "the best".

That on its own, creates a concealed level of competition, healthy some experts say. This is not about Capitalism vs Communism because all systems have their flaws, but as someone that doesn’t even like playing Monopoly and international football every 4 years is the closest to competition it gets, acknowledging there's a subliminal message like in a 90’s Coca Cola advert leaves me, well dazzled and confused at times haha.

Of course, I am no saint, or an enlightened being neither nor I pretend to be. I have my moments like all of us and stuffed it up on more occasions than I’d have liked in the first place. I am well aware of the game sometimes we are meant to play, in order to do what we want to do. It’s like that moral-spiritual dilemma of becoming the best (no matter if it’s at the expense of others) at any cost, ultimately is the excuse for not becoming my better version.
And that pi**es me off.
On a larger scale, how did we get here? Particularly 2 main continuous movements: Biological Evolution and Culture.
The first describes the genetical mutation and the natural selection principle. Totally out of our control.
On the second, our creativity has a starring role. From discovering fire, the invention of the wheel, gunpowder to electric cars and men on the moon, all mixed up with poetry, literature, religion, story telling and much more in a conglomerated soup that helps to generate a paradigm shift on how we relate to ourselves and others. Totally in our control. Or at least in theory!

In my mind and given the evolutionary traits of our species, collaboration, empathy, clear communication and the We over the I feels like the right path to follow. And yet, in countless occasions we end up examining our actions in hindsight and wondering what is really motivating us.
What kind of self-negotiation is taking place under the apparent reasons?

Neuroscience explains that our brain is wired so, that we use known information to solve any type of problems, new or old. As if we are in a semi automatic response, where the answers to our challenges come in their majority from our previous experiences and the accepted cultural agreements that rule us. There's also an even more primitive force on play when it comes to our survival: Enthropy, which vows for energy preservation. So, if you think that being lazy is the reason you're not coming to the gym, well here's a way out :)

Jokes aside, we have underestimated the power of creativity. And how it can positively affect us.

Poet Robert Frost apparently said: "Our brain is a wonderful organ. It starts working as soon as we wake up and it doesn't stop until we get to the office".

With the above long blurb as preface, now I am getting to the point! We don't need to be the best, but we can become our best with some tweaking along the way.

At HQ ,we are improving the format (yet again!) of our classes. We maintain of course the Strength sessions on Mon-Wed-Fri and Sat, but we are upgrading the Functional ones in a more "creative" way. The sessions will comprise a thorough 5 minute warm up, a 25 minute main heart rate enhancer/HIIT workout that will be adaptable to ALL levels, so even our newest, injured, in rehab mode, or those who only like Strength can and should attend. Followed by a 15 minute cool down itinerant protocol with focus on: core strength, mobility, flexibility, foam rolling, lacrosse ball trigger points, balance, proprioception among other key yet underused skills. We are making these changes to enhance your abilities, to teach you regain movement confidence, to improve your quality of life.
