Sultan Mohammad Dipatuan Kudarat (1581-1671) is revered as one of the most formidable leaders in Philippine history, celebrated for his unwavering defense of Mindanao against Spanish colonization in the 17th century and his successful efforts to curb the spread of Roman Catholicism in the region. As a direct descendant of Shariff Kabungsuan, the Islamic missionary who introduced Islam to Mindanao in the 14th century, Sultan Kudarat was destined to protect both his faith and his people, which he did with remarkable courage and strategic brilliance. His leadership transcended his role as the Sultan of Maguindanao, earning him recognition as a national hero of the Filipino people, admired not only as a leader of the Muslim community but as a steadfast guardian of the nation's sovereignty. In 1973, then-President Ferdinand Marcos honored his legacy by issuing Letter of Instruction No. 126, leading to the release of commemorative stamps that symbolized the government's acknowledgment of the crucial role Muslim Filipinos played in the struggle for national freedom. Sultan Kudarat's story remains a powerful testament to the bravery, leadership, and unity that define the Filipino spirit.

Sa pangunguna ng Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, nakikiisa ang 𝗣𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗸𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗽𝗮𝗻 𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗼 sa mahalagang pagdiriwang ng Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa ngayong Agosto na may tema ngayong taon na “Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya.” Binibigyang tingkad nito ang wikang Filipino bilang instrumentong nagpapalaya. Ang pagdiriwang ay nakatugon sa Proklamasyon Blg. 1041 s. 1997 na nagpapahayag ng taunang pagdiriwang tuwing Agosto 1-31 bilang Buwan ng Wikang Pambansa, at naglalayon na maiangat ang kamalayan ng mga mamamayang Pilipino ukol sa wika at kasaysayan nito.
