Week 2: Day 3| Recycle Papers
* I wanna say sorry for the mispelled word in the uploaded photo, it should be Recycle not Recyle. *
Before we do our activity with the use of paper we will first talk about everything you need to know when you recycle papers.
According to Sukalich (2016), in 2011, the United States recycled 66.8% of its paper consumption. More paper is collected for recycling than plastic, aluminum, and glass combined, and every ton of paper recycled saves more than 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space. It is because 87 percent of us have access to curbside or drop-off recycling for paper, it's a material we're used to recycling.
Furthermore, in 2011, 76 percent of paper mills utilized some recovered material, indicating that the paper you throw away is making its way into a variety of new goods. The process of converting old paper into new paper may appear to be complicated, but it is actually rather simple. If you’re feeling ambitious, you could even try to recreate this process yourself using everything from old wrapping paper to junk mail.
Paper recycling, on the other hand, allows us to conserve both energy and materials on a large scale. According to the EPA, recycling one ton of paper saves 17 trees, 7,000 gallons of water, and 463 gallons of oil. Continue reading to learn more about how the process works and how to recycle paper properly.

Week 2: Day 1| Experiences before this COVID-19 came.
Looking back to the times, I was able to participate in different environmental engagement. I was able to see how could this make a small change in the world that we live today. It wasn't easy that with this COVID-19, it unable us to do some activities like this, but rather it allows us to reminisce those times and do some changes in our own homes. We are reminded that even without these organizational, school and program activities doesn't mean we could not make a change, that we could not do something for our environment it is about learning from those experience and doing it in the way we could.
Let's do something that could change how we see the environment that we have. ❤️
Sustainable and ethical fashion is making a name for itself, and the movement is taking shape in the Philippines.
Enfluence has compiled a list of shops that sell clothing made from repurposed, reclaimed, or recycled fabric, and all of which weave, sew and create clothing with a purpose. Instead of reaching for that fast fashion shirt, consider these alternatives. 👗👚🌿
Here are some good tips to make your clothes last longer. 🌿🌏
Skrrt skrrt! Upcycle your old jeans into a denim skirt. ♻️
Find a pair of jeans that fit you well.
They can be old and covered with holes, but make sure that they fit you in the waist and hips. 👖🌿
Upcycling an old t-shirt into a tote bag is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
One of the most useful little sacks you can have is this simple, easy-to-make bag. It stretches to hold a large load, crushes to fit in a small space, and is ideal for groceries and craft projects and just about anything else you might need to transport.
Things you’ll need:
Old T-shirt (ideally oversized)
Scissors
Sewing Machine
Thread
Hi friends! Have you been productive this week so far?
Here are some ideas that you might be interested in doing to get started with Upcycling! 💚🌏🌳
Fast Fashion: The Monsters Inside Your Wardrobe
Fashion has a massive effect on people and the environment, and fast fashion owns a significant and growing contributor to the problem. It is growing fast, fast enough to pollute and tear down mother nature.
Fast fashion is defined as low-cost, trendy apparel that takes inspiration from the catwalk or celebrity culture and quickly transforms it into items at high-street stores to meet consumer demand. Enticing as it may seem, it has severe consequences for our health, the environment, and the lives of garment workers.
Clothing production requires considerable energy and resources, while it depends on toxic fabric dyes and other chemicals that contaminate freshwater. It has an enormous environmental footprint for both its production and disposal. Overall, the industry produces a tenth of the world's carbon emissions and should alarm us.
Fast fashion has already done its damage, and it is time to be sustainable. One way to combat the enormous amounts of waste generated by these fabrics is to invest in clothes made from recycled plastic; shopping in eco-friendly brands and not subscribing to the fast fashion trend can hugely make a difference.
We can still be fashionable in the best way possible by being ethical and sustainable. Bear in mind that fashion shouldn't cause the earth.
Toss or Take: Upcycling your Old Clothes
Are you a fan of fashion? Have you constantly been changing your wardrobe to fit the trends? And a way to get rid of your old garments is by throwing them away.
An alarming fact about throwing a piece of clothing can cause a massive negative impact on the environment. Clothes release toxic gas when they decompose in landfills. The environmental damage is increasing as millions of people keep on throwing a piece of clothing. Feeling guilty? Don't worry. I am here with you, buddy.
There are solutions and alternatives to mitigate these problems. The first step lies in building awareness and willingness to change. If you want something new in your wardrobe by not necessarily tossing all your old clothes in the trash bin. We introduce to you: Upcycling.
Also known as creative reuse, which is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new products perceived to be of more excellent quality, such as artistic environmental value. This method essentially helps you achieve two of the 3 'R's of recycling: REDUCE and REUSE. It helps you reduce what is going to landfill and reuses the product you were going to throw away, giving it a second life without the need for "degrading" it.
Rewearing your clothes is the most conscious decision you can make to promote a better sustainable lifestyle. Most importantly, it will be a beneficial contribution to our environment. Upcycling increases a positive impact on the environment. It saves natural resources and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the process.
Be productive this season and upcycle your old clothes!
The Mother Earth has been continuously deteriorating. It needs you, now!
Do you want to know more exciting and creative ways on how to recycle your excess papers, plastics, and old clothes?
Do you want to be informed regarding conservation and preservation life hacks?
Still don't know what you can innovate in your own homes?
