In response to the devastation brought by Tropical Storm Kristine, Iloilo City's youth officials organized a successful fundraising campaign to support affected families across the city. Proceeds from the initiative were used to purchase essential goods, including drinking water, food packs, and toiletries, which were urgently needed in various evacuation centers.
Accompanied by Acting Vice Mayor Sedfrey Cabaluna and City Councilor Frances Grace Parcon, the young city officials personally visited several evacuation areas to distribute the relief goods. Their visit provided much-needed support and compassion to families struggling in the wake of the storm.
Beyond distributing essentials, the youth officials also organized a brief entertainment activity for the children, providing a moment of relief and distraction from the challenges they face.
The youth officials extended their heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to their cause, emphasizing the impact of community support in times of need. This event underscores the commitment of Iloilo's younger generation to civic responsibility and compassion for fellow Ilonggos during crises.
To wrap up the Boys and Girls Week, youth officials of Iloilo City, joined by Acting Vice Mayor Sedfrey Cabaluna, visited the female dormitory at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Iloilo City. This visit was part of a day-long tour for the young leaders to learn more about the lives of those in jail, in observance of National Correctional Consciousness Week.
The youth officials shared dignity kits with the female inmates, and a short program followed. Everyone sang a Christmas song together, bringing an emotional moment as the inmates felt the distance from their families and children.
Acting Vice Mayor Cabaluna praised the youth officials for their compassion, saying this experience was important for them to understand the different parts of their community. The visit brought hope and connection between the youth and the inmates.
As part of the Boys and Girls Week celebration, the young City Council members conducted an insightful mock session, presided over by Boy Vice Mayor Gavin Aric Remollata. This session allowed them to gain a firsthand experience in how city council resolutions are deliberated, defended, and passed!
Each Boys and Girls City Councilor submitted their own proposed resolutions, which were thoroughly debated on the council floor. Questions were raised, proponents defended their resolutions, and—by the end—all proposed resolutions were successfully passed!
Acting Vice Mayor Sedfrey Cabaluna also took time to speak with the young leaders, sharing words of inspiration and encouragement.
This initiative, organized by the Rotary Club of Iloilo and the Iloilo City Government, continues to empower high school students with a unique experience in public service. Congratulations to our future leaders for a job well done!
During the 41st regular session of the Iloilo City Council last week, an inspiring moment unfolded as our city councilors joined their "Boys and Girls" counterparts, giving high school students a rare opportunity to experience local government in action!
The Boys and Girls City Vice Mayor, Councilors, and SP City Secretary took part in the session, gaining firsthand insights into the workings of city governance. Some students even had the chance to present proposed measures on the rostrum, representing their counterpart councilors with pride. The Boy City Mayor also delivered his very own State of the City Address—an impressive milestone for these young leaders!
This annual celebration, a partnership between the Rotary Club of Iloilo City and the Iloilo City Government, allows high school students to step into the shoes of government officials for a week. It’s an incredible way to nurture leadership, civic responsibility, and community involvement among our youth.
Kudos to all participants for making this Boys and Girls Week a memorable and impactful experience!

Last week, the Boys and Girls counterparts in the Sangguniang Panlungsod began their immersion with the SP through an orientation conducted by the SP secretariat. This session was part of the Boys and Girls Week celebration, aimed at preparing these young leaders for their upcoming engagement in the Iloilo City Council.
During the orientation, Mr. Jason Gregorio of SP secretariat presented the current composition of the Iloilo City Council, along with significant landmark legislations, awards, and recognitions earned by the council. Ms. Remia Regalado, Assistant Department Head, introduced a proposed resolution that outlines the rules of procedure for the Boys and Girls session participants, as well as the internal rules that will guide their activities.
The orientation was essential to help the young leaders understand the inner workings of the council, ensuring they could fully participate with confidence and insight. By familiarizing them with the roles, rules, and key accomplishments of the council, the SP helped set a foundation for a meaningful and impactful immersion.
