is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to foster, maintain and support a mutually beneficial relationship between alumni and the Academy. Our association sprung to life in August 1969. The founding group foresaw the need to consolidate efforts and work towards a common goal of brotherhood among its members and to uplift of standards of the marine profession by active involvement in shaping up of government policies affecting the maritime industry.

Following the forum hosted by the Association last June 28, the 2nd B-Connect Fellowship was also conducted that same evening. Alumni members, guests and sponsors gathered to “Connect, Convey, Promote” for networking opportunities as well as business and professional development.
Senator Francis “Tol” Tolentino was the fellowship’s Guest of Honor and Speaker, and was represented by his Chief of Staff Atty. Alfonso Pao during the event. The senator sent a video message expressing gratitude for being invited and congratulating the Association for this activity. He also voiced his continued support to the Association as well as to the growth and development of the country’s maritime industry.
Aside from the social and networking activities, the evening also featured the induction of the Board of Directors and Trustees of the Association and the Foundation, respectively. Other festivities included a fellowship dinner, musical entertainment by the PMMA Band, and product presentations from event sponsors, concluding with a ceremonial toast to celebrate the success of the event.
The 2nd B-Connect Fellowship was highlighted with the conferment of the Valor at Sea Award to three alumni who exhibited “outstanding heroism and bravery” on separate maritime incidents during their duties onboard their respective vessels.
Capt. Manolo "Noli" Ebora ‘86, was recognized for standing up to the Chinese Coast Guard during an encounter in 2019 at the Scarborough Shoal, while Capt. Randy Rabajante ’95 and CE Alpio Cabarrubias, Jr. ’86, were commended in leading to defend their vessel against an attack by Houthi militants in the Red Sea. The Association honored the three marine officers for demonstrating the Academy’s values of “righteousness, humility, and courage.”
The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy Alumni Association, Inc. (PMMAAAI) hosted its 2nd Blue Ocean Forum last June 28, 2024 at the Philippine Navy Officers Club in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
The event is are part of the Association’s activities to update its members and other stakeholders about relevant issues and developments concerning the maritime industry.
For its second staging, the forum focused on “Opportunities and Threats in the Current Geopolitical Landscape for the Philippine Maritime Industry.” Subject matter experts served as resource speakers to facilitate discussions and exchange of ideas among those present at the venue as well as those who participated online.
Atty. Julius Yano, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and Marshall Louis Alferez, Assistant Secretary for Maritime and Ocean Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) joined the panel, together with distinguished alumni and industry leaders.
This included: Capt. Gaudencio “Jess” Morales, who is the Chairman Emeritus of the PMMA Alumni Foundation, Inc. (PMMAAFI), and President and Chairman of IMP Shipyard and Port Services, Inc.; Commo. Jeremias Simon, President of PMMAAAI, and Capt. Jose Remo Librodo, President of Next Wave Maritime Management, Inc. and Director of the Association of Licensed Manning Agencies (ALMA Maritime Group).
