We embody 69 years of unsurpassed vision, dedication, and capacity for hard work. Truly, UP PreMedSoc is more than a mere pre-med org! Vision. Dedication.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.
Since 2003, ***dePreventionDay is organized by the International Association for Su***de Prevention in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) to raise awareness about su***de prevention.
This 2024, we give emphasis on “Changing the Narrative on Su***de,” which revolves around reducing the stigma against talks regarding su***de and the crucial role of encouraging open & empathetic conversations to prevent it. The call to action for this year is “Start the Conversation.”
If you or someone you know is struggling, . No matter how small, your conversations help break down the barriers and contribute to building a more inclusive and understanding society. Starting conversations is also instrumental in lobbying for mental health policies to those who are in the government.
The U.P. Pre-Medical Society is one with IASP and WHO in their advocacy of preventing su***de and suicidal behaviors. We call on our leaders to increase funding, provide better healthcare conditions and services, and create more accessible platforms and avenues for those who need mental health support.
May this day be a reminder to everyone that we are not alone. Help is available.

Ever wondered what “tuli” is for? 🤔 Rooted in tradition, tuli or circumcision serves as a rite of passage for many young Filipino boys. It promotes better hygiene and reduces associated health risks such as infection. Moreover, it is an essential component of a young boy’s social life that he can choose to undergo as he enters puberty. 👦🏻
This May 2024, UP PMS will be holding TULAY: Tulong at Agapay para sa Kabataan, a Tuli Mission for young boys from Old Balara Elementary School.
The Tuli Mission aims to provide young Filipino boys with access to this medical practice and promote social awareness of its importance. 💉🩺

“Mortui vivos docent” — the dead teach the living.
Earlier today, April 26, the UP PMS held this semester’s Alternative Classroom Learning Experience (ACLE) entitled “The Cadaver Conundrum.” From history to ethics, the talk delves into how medical students and professionals handle cadavers in the medical field and research.
We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to our guest speaker, Dr. Rafael Bundoc, for sharing an insightful and engaging discussion on how science, ethics, and humanity intersect. The event would also not be possible without the participants who took the time to attend and listen in this year’s ACLE.

We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of UP Pre-Medical Society’s adviser, who was also a beloved mentor, sports psychologist, counselor, confidant, and friend, Mona Liza Adviento Maghanoy.
Rest in peace, Ma’am Mona. Thank you for all your unwavering support and years of service to the organization. Your legacy will live on forever. 🕊
[NEVER FORGET: Statement on the 38th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution]
Today, we commemorate the 38th anniversary of the People Power Revolution, where over a million Filipinos rallied at the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) to oust the dictator, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. Last October 2023, the Malacañang Palace declared that the EDSA People Power Anniversary would no longer be a national holiday. However, we continue to honor those who fought to reclaim our democracy and stand by those who continue to fight to preserve it.
During the Marcos regime, the Filipino people suffered from human rights violations such as extrajudicial killings, unlawful imprisonment, and extensive corruption which led to economic collapse and widespread poverty. Since then, despite the efforts of government leaders, corruption, injustice, and anti-people policies continue to persist. Recently, the Philippine Congress proposed amendments to three economic provisions of the 1987 Philippine Constitution. Many view this proposed charter change (Cha-Cha) as an enabler of future threats to Philippine democracy that risks aggravating the political and socioeconomic conditions in the country. As such, this EDSA People Power Anniversary, we remember those who fought against punitive governance and celebrate the Revolution’s spirit as we take a unified stance against Cha-Cha.
The UP Pre-Medical Society affirms that our nation’s democracy should be upheld and asserted. The EDSA People Power Anniversary extends beyond a celebration of democracy's triumph through collective action; it is a call to never forget those who sacrificed and fought for our country. Now that we run the risk of being blindsided by charter change, we call upon all to remember EDSA’s lessons by staying informed and actively opposing these present-day injustices. Never again shall the interests of the minority elite prevail, and never again shall we be ruled by the power-hungry.
