#𝗦𝗣𝗣2024 | 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀, 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗷𝗮𝗺-𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲

Thirteen thousand kilometers away from sunny Batangas, Prof. Daniel Holz at the University of Chicago relived the detection of the elusive gravitational waves by the LIGO collaboration - 100 years after Einstein predicted them. This, along with the origins of gold and platinum, the death of stars, and the age of the universe brought awe to the hall of around 250 people, engaging them in this novel way of listening beyond the fabric of spacetime. Holz was one of the highlights of the Samahang Pisika ng Pilipinas (SPP) - International Physics Conference and Annual Meeting.

Along with the plenary talks came the parallel sessions that were attended by invited speakers from the United Kingdom, United States, Taiwan, Japan, and Pakistan. New developments in Physics research were tackled - from Condensed Matter to Optics and Photonics. Poster sessions were also set up adjacent to the parallel sessions venue.

The SPP Conference is an annual event where physicists from all over the Philippines and abroad converge annually to discuss and seek collaborations pertaining to the latest development of physics research and education in the country. It is now in its 42nd year.

SPP in partnership with the UP National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education Development (UP NISMED) will be conducting the 2024 Physics Education Workshop titled “Integrating Digital Technologies into Inquiry-Based Physics Lessons.” This will be held on July 5, 2024, at Batangas State University - Pablo Borbon Campus, Batangas City.

This workshop aims to equip high school science teachers with the knowledge, tools, and skills to integrate digital technologies effectively into inquiry-based physics teaching. It will start with an introduction to inquiry-based learning, followed by examples of how various technology applications, programs, and websites can be used to support inquiry-based learning in Physics classrooms. The said workshop will be done simultaneously with the Physics Conference and Annual Meeting.
