It is :
COURAGE to overcome in the furnace of affliction

Have the heart to thrive and bounce back from any trials or pitfalls

Genesis 26 : 1-2
1 There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar.
2 Then the Lord appeared to him and said: "Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you.

- - - -
Genesis 26 : 3-6
3 Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.
4 And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;
5 because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws."
6 So Isaac dwelt in Gerar.

- - - -
Genesis 26: 12-17
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him.
13 The man began to prosper, and continued prospering until he became very prosperous;
14 for he had possessions of flocks and possessions of herds and a great number of servants. So the Philistines envied him.
15 Now the Philistines had stopped up all the wells which his father's servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father, and they had filled them with earth.
16 And Abimelech said to Isaac, "Go away from us, for you are much mightier than we."
17 Then Isaac departed from there and pitched his tent in the Valley of Gerar, and dwelt there.

- - - -
Genesis 26: 18-21
18 And Isaac dug again the wells of water which they had dug in the days of Abraham his father, for the Philistines had stopped them up after the death of Abraham. He called them by the names which his father had called them.
19 Also Isaac's servants dug in the valley, and found a well of running water there.
20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, "The water is ours." So he called the name of the well Esek, because they quarreled with him.
21 Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that one also. So he called its name Sitnah.

- - - -
Genesis 26: 22-25
22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth, because he said, "For now the Lord has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land."
23 Then he went up from there to Beersheba.
24 And the Lord appeared to him the same night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham's sake."
25 So he built an altar there and called on the name of the Lord, and he pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's servants dug a well

Daniel 3: 8-18
8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews.
9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, "O king, live forever!
10 You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image;
11 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.
12 There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up."
13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king.
14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, "Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up?
15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?"
16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, "O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.
17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.
18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up."

2 Corinthians 11:23-30
23 Are they ministers of Christ? - I speak as a fool - I am more: in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often. 24 From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.
25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;
26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;
27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness -
28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
29 Who is weak, and I am not weak? Who is made to stumble, and I do not burn with indignation?
30 If I must boast, I will boast in the things which concern my infirmity.

- - - -
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

12 For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him,
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
14 How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?
15 And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

- - - -
Three Questions Before We Go

(1) Who do we go to? (Romans 10:12-13)
(2) What do we do? (Romans 10:14-15)
(3) Do we really have to go? (Romans 10:15)

- - - -
Is there someone you cannot preach the gospel to?

What are the old ways of thinking we are still holding on to that we need the Holy Spirit to come and bring breakthroughs?

1 Corinthians 12:1–11 (NIV84)

1 Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
2 You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
3 Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.
11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Acts 1:3-8 (NLT).
3 During the forty days after he suffered and died, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive. And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.
4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before.
5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
6 So when the apostles were with Jesus, they kept asking him, “Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom?”
7 He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere – in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

- - - -
βαπτίζω
baptize
to dip, to make fully wet, sink

- - - -
Word also used in ancient Greek for ships sunk or people drowned.

In the Bible, Holy Spirit is always related to an experience or encounter with the supernatural and power.

- - - -
Pattern of Jesus Christ

- - - -
(1) Born Of The Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:35 (NIV84)
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

- - - -
(2) Filled With The Holy Spirit.

Luke 3:21-23 (NIV84)
21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened
22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I
love; with you I am well pleased.”
23 Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.

- - - -
Pattern of Disciples

- - - -
(1) Born Of The Holy Spirit.

John 3:3,5 (NIV84)
3 In reply Jesus declared, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.”
5 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

- - - -
(1) Born Of The Holy Spirit.

Disciples receive the Spirit

John 20:21–22 (NIV84)
21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
22 And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

- - - -
(2) Filled With The Holy Spirit.

Acts 1:4 (NIV84)
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.

Acts 1:8 (NIV84)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:1-4 (NIV84)
1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
2 Suddenly a sound like theblowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

- - - -
Purpose of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit – power to be witnesses of Jesus Christ.

- - - -
Witness (μάρτυς martus)

Martyr – legal term refers to something or someone that bears testimony to things seen, heard, transacted, or experienced.

- - - -
2 kinds of power:

εξουσία (exousia)
jurisdiction, authority; right to command or order.
E.g. Policeman in uniform.

Δύναμις (dunamis)
supernatural ability to perform.

- - - -
Phenomena Accompanying The Baptism.

Phenomena – marvels, wonders, miracles, spectacles, sensations, occurences.

- - - -
5 accounts of people being filled with the Holy Spirit & Phenomena.

- - - -
#1. Acts 2:4 (NIV84)
All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

- - - -
#2. Acts 8:17–19 (NIV84)
17 Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
18 When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he offered them money
19 and said, “Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit.”

- - - -
#3. Acts 9:17–18 (NIV84)
17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord – Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here – has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized,

- - - -
#4. Acts 10:44–47 (NIV84)
44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.
46 For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,
47 “Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”

- - - -
#5. Acts 19:6 (NIV84)
When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.

- - - -
Must we speak in tongues?

- - - -
1 Corinthians 14:5 (NIV84)
I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greater than one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified.

- - - -
Greek for “would like” is “thelo” (θέλω)

Theological Dictionary of the New Testament:
“thelin” refers to “the weighty and authoritative discharge of office.

- - - -
Galatians 3:2 –
“I would like to learn just one thing from you.”

Romans 16:19 –
“I want you to be wise about what is good”.

- - - -
The robe of the high priest

- - - -
Exodus 28:31–35 (NLT)
31 “Make the robe that is worn with the ephod from a single piece of blue cloth,
32 with an opening for Aaron’s head in the middle of it. Reinforce the opening with a woven collar so it will not tear.
33 Make pomegranates out of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and attach them to the hem of the robe, with gold bells between them.
34 The gold bells and pomegranates are to alternate all around the hem.
35 Aaron will wear this robe whenever he ministers before the Lord, and the bells will ti**le as he goes in and out of the Lord’s presence in the Holy Place. If he wears it, he will not die.

- - - -
Pomegranates represent Fruit.

Gold bells represent Presence.

- - - -
1 Peter 2:5 (NLT).
And you are living stones that God is building into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.

- - - -
Experience The Baptism of Holy Spirit

- - - -
1. Surrender your life totally to Jesus Christ. Commit yourself to serve Him.
2. Confess and Renounce all involvement with false gods and occultic practices.
3. Forgive people.
4. Ask and receive by faith the Holy Spirit and the ability to speak in tongues.
5. Activate speaking in tongues.

FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
Era of the Holy Spirit Foretold

John the Baptist pointed people to Jesus and spoke of the baptism He would perform:

Before His ascension, Jesus instructed His disciples to remain in Jerusalem and to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit and the baptism He would perform

As for me, I baptize you with water; but One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to untie the thong of His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire (Luke 3:16)

- - - -
FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
Fulfilment of Promise at Pentecost

The disciples received this baptism on the day of Pentecost—signalling the official start of the New Covenant era

Evidence of this baptism and the giving of the Holy Spirit was seen in the disciples’ ability to speak in foreign tongues

The newly baptised Peter testified to the Jewish onlookers that the gift of the Holy Spirit would be given to “all” who would call upon the name of the Lord

- - - -
FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
An Outbreak of revelation & prophecy

Peter also linked the giving of the Spirit at Pentecost with an ancient prophecy:

What Joel had glimpsed was the Spirit’s outpouring in the Church age – bringing with it an abundance and shared experience of “dreams,” “visions,” and “prophecy” among God’s people

In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy (Acts 2:17–18; cf. Joel 2:28–29)

- - - -
FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
“Spirit Democratisation”

Joel’s prophecy highlights that under the New Covenant—prophetic revelation has been made available to “all”—not just to “prophets”

Jeremiah and Ezekiel had also prophesied the New Covenant era – saying it would be a time when God’s Spirit would inhabit the hearts of His people

Paul could therefore inform the Corinthians that anyone of them might prophesy:
you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all may be exhorted (1 Cor. 14:31)

- - - -
FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
the spirit’s baptism unlocking Spiritual gifts

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is given to empower the Church for service and kingdom witness

Through the Spirits baptism – our human spirit is immersed into His life and power

The Spirit’s baptism is a secondary work of grace that releases “tongues,” “prophecy”—or potentially any spiritual gift

- - - -
FOUNDATIONAL NEW COVENANT TRUTHS
The Church As A Community of Prophets

We are joined to the Church through the Spirit’s baptism—a Spirit-empowered community endowed with revelation

John affirms the revelatory activity of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer in his first Church letter:

As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him (1 John 2:27)

- - - -
The FOCUS of Christian Prophecy

The Apostle John states in Revelation 19:10c that
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy

In alignment to the New Covenant and the finished work of the cross – prophecy in the Church age is founded upon the affirmation of God’s saving action in His Son, Jesus Christ

- - - -
The FOCUS of Christian Prophecy

The Holy Spirit’s goal in Christian prophecy is to “reveal” and “glorify” Jesus—so people would worship Him

Central to everything Christian prophecy reveals is the redemptive work of Jesus – as it relates to those areas of our life He’s addressing

- - - -
The FOCUS of Christian Prophecy

Christian prophecy will therefore provide insight and answers into:

Where is Jesus at work in me?

What does Jesus want me to know?

What is Jesus calling me to do?

- - - -
Implications for the spirit of prophecy upon our lives

In John’s Gospel, Jesus informed His disciples that the Holy Spirit they would receive would impart to them revelation in order to:

“teach all things” (14:26)

“testify” to them about Himself (15:26)

guide them “into all the truth” (16:13a)

“disclose what is to come” (16:13c)

“disclose” to them intimate knowledge of Himself (16:14b–15)

Galatians 5:16–24 (NASB95)
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
8 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality,
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
