It’s that time of the year again when we start seeing stores selling bak chang (glutinous rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves), and this marks the imminent arrival of Duanwu Festival, celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.

A mother’s love knows no bounds - as captured in this very special staging of the Teochew opera, “The Pawned Wife”.

Set in the early 20th century, the play is based on the celebrated novel “The Enslaved Mother” by Rou Shi. Tracing the trials and tribulations of a wife from a poor family, “The Pawned Wife” explores the sacrifices made by a mother for her child.

Mr Alvin Tan, Deputy Chief Executive (Policy & Community) of National Heritage Board, will be appointed as the new CEO of SCCC with effect from 3 June 2024. Mr Tan has been a member of SCCC’s Board of Directors since the inception of SCCC in 2016, and with his extensive experience, is well poised to lead SCCC into a new era of growth and to carry on the legacy of nurturing a greater awareness and appreciation of our local Chinese arts, heritage and culture.

Cultural Extravaganza is finally here! To kick off our celebration of arts and culture, we announced the recipients of the 2024 Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award (SCCCA).

Following this, the opening show of the night – “The Pawned Wife” by 南华潮剧社 Nam Hwa Opera inaugurated the festivities and treated guests to an immersive Teochew opera experience.

“华彩”2024终于来了！盛典随着本届的新加坡华族文化贡献奖的颁奖典礼展开，表彰为新加坡华族文化做出卓越贡献的个人和团体。
