In TCM, the spleen is vital for digestive health and overall well-being. It absorbs nutrients, produces Qi and blood, and holds blood in place, which is essential for preventing bruising and bleeding. A healthy spleen boosts energy, regulates the menstrual cycle, supports restful sleep, and enhances mental clarity. 🌿
🥚 Ovulation happens in the Yang phase. For this to happen, Kidney, Liver and Spleen organ systems have to be in harmony during the four phases of the menstrual cycle.
☯️ Abundance of Yin (moist, feminine, nourishing) and adequate Yang (power, masculine, energy) are important factors too.

🐉 Dragon years are epitomised by activity and reaction. This lunar new year, the element associated with the Dragon is a strong Yang Wood.
🌳 In TCM, Wood is a dynamic force associated with the Liver and Gallbladder. It carries the energy of Yang and promotes the smooth flow of Qi and Blood within the body.
🐲When things are going smooth, Dragons are often fearless warriors, highly creative, curious and charismatic leaders.
But when wood is unbalanced, they can easily get stressed out, angry, irritable and make poor decisions.
It’s time to reflect, revive, renew and reboot.
Explore new things, express your ideas and unleash your creativity.

Based on an average 28 day cycle, the menstrual cycle is divided into 4 parts - Blood, Yin, Yang and Qi. They are divided in 4 equal parts for simplicity but each phase is intrinsically connected.
In TCM, only only do we look at Blood, there's also a lot of focus on the roles of Kidney, Liver and Spleen as well as the rise and fall of Yin and Yang throughout the whole cycle.

🩸The monthly cycle is not just about bleeding.
⚖️ In TCM, it depends on the harmonious functioning of mainly the Spleen, Liver and Kidney systems and a balanced flow of Qi and Blood.
💃 Irregular periods, pain, bloating, mood swings and cramps are signs that one of the organ systems and Qi or Blood is not balanced.

I recently visited to explore their guasha and moxa tools. During my visit, Maggie guasha-ed a small area of my incredibly tense shoulders. It was a remarkably relaxing experience. It was like unraveling knots in my muscles + doing hot stone spa treatment.
The red-purplish marks that appeared indicate the presence of Qi and Blood stagnation. It's worth noting that the darker the color of these marks, the more pronounced the stagnation.
