Rounding up Day 1 of PREPMUN 2023!

Delegates were greeted with a warm welcome — and our Delegate Packs — at our Registration Booths, following which they headed over to the hall for our Opening Ceremony.

Our Opening Ceremony for PREPMUN 2023 saw a Panel Dialogue with our Guests of Honour, Dr. Kei Koga and Prof. Rohan Gunaratna, surrounding the topic of International Security. The floor was opened to questions from delegates, during which the hall was all smiles as our Guests of Honour engaged with the audience and uncovered perspectives of greater depth.

With our Opening Ceremony signalling the official opening of the conference, our first Committee Sessions commenced after our delegates enjoyed their lunch break.

And with Day 1 concluded, our delegates kickstart their journeys with us in creating a one-of-a-kind experience at PREPMUN 2023! 👐

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category C Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the United States Senate!

Student Officer: Desmund Loo Jian Hao
While Desmund isn’t whiffing all his shots on Valorant, he can be seen binging Suits or the Peaky Blinders on Netflix. With too much free time on his hands, he enjoys the occasional weekend badminton alongside the all-too-many side hustles to supply the 100g of protein his gymbro regiment requires. Regardless, Desmund wishes to bring the best of MUN to all new and experienced delegates alike and looks forward to seeing everybody at the Senate.

Student Officer: Jessica Chen Rouyan
Jessica stands at a height of 180, taller than the average Singaporean female. Under her seemingly-intimidating demeanour lies a softie—visible from her collection of Jelly Cats and Frozen bedsheets. While not preparing for her next Math or Physics test, she spends most of her weekends at debate competitions, relishing in the craft of argumentation. Jessica looks forward to meeting delegates at PREPMUN'23, and challenges delegates to step out of their comfort zones and explore the realms of the MUN; for it will be a MUN to reMUNber 😋

Student Officer: Lai Ziliang Brandon
As an NSF, Brandon has frankly no idea why he's still in the MUN circuit. Regardless, he is here and thus, he supposes that introductions are in order. He enjoys writing and musicals, but not writing musicals. Er lernt in seiner Freizeit Deutsch… und R (Python). To quote Webber, "Well, I'm a writer." Allow him to, to quote Sondheim, "promote the sale of my boooooooook." He hopes that all delegates who have an interest in politics will consider buying his political drama when it is (eventually) released. Notwithstanding that, welcome to the U.S. Senate.

Do look forward to hearing from our Student Officers and check out our spaces and our website prepmun.sg for updates leading up to the conference!

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category C Committees — Starting off with our Dais of the United Nations Security Council!

Student Officer: Aloysius Lee Seng Yang
As he slowly tides over his National Service (probably on a frigate somewhere in the Philippine Sea by the time you read this), Aloysius finds it difficult to keep in touch with the external world. If you ever see him in the Tanjong Pagar area, feel free to have a short chat with him about history, geography, or Machiavelli.

In his free time, he enjoys pain au chocolat, waxing pedantic poetics, and the sea. In his not-so-free time, he tries his best to enjoy 5km runs, marching songs, and the sea.

Student Officer: Novyana Mulpuri
A coffee-loving BCML J2 student at Eunoia Junior College, Novyana is thrilled to be chairing her favourite committee amidst her A-Level preparations. Her friends call her questionable for taking up this heavy MUN commitment even in such a crucial year, but her response is 'Sylvia Plath was too and she’s phenomenal’.

An avid literature student and passionate member of the MUN circuit, Novyana finds herself with no free time for her late night Valorant streams on Twitch with A-Levels being this year. Still, she remains dedicated and wishes everyone a fruitful and enjoyable experience at PREPMUN 2023.

Do look forward to hearing from our Student Officers and check out our spaces and our website prepmun.sg for updates leading up to the conference!

Introducing our Category B Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the African Union!

Head Student Officer: Liew Shan Yik
A Secondary 4 student, Shan Yik's active interest in essay and poetry writing belies his inability to offer an inspiring introduction. When not scrolling through various news sites for interesting articles, Shan Yik can be found halfheartedly practicing martial arts at his local community centre. Finding himself trapped in the conundrum of having academic hobbies on top of his studies, Shan Yik hopes that delegates will treasure the opportunity to enjoy themselves, make friends, and learn something new at PREPMUN 2023.

Deputy Student Officer: Steve Chang
A boomer in the circuit, Steve is currently dutifully serving the nation as a soldier in the army. Having joined in 2018, Steve has seen the ups and downs of the circuit. Yet, he has continued to participate, as his passion to learn and grow supersedes any thoughts of retireMUN.

In his free time, he can be seen doom scrolling Reddit, or obsessing over Star Wars. Steve looks forward to providing an awesome MUN experience for all delegates in his council.

Deputy Student Officer: Shen Yue Er
Yue Er lives by the mantra "The mind is willing but the body is weak", due to her desire to attend MUNs conflicting with her unfortunate history of catching flu bugs all the time. When not MUNning, Yue Er can oftentimes be found trying to keep her plants alive (and has unfortunately lost 5 cacti since December 2022).  Nonetheless, she enjoys mugging at cafes and is often described as a "teddy bear" but "with a humour unhinged like a broken door". Like her co-Chairs, she hopes to create a welcoming and rigorous environment for delegates to debate and have fun!

Introducing our Category B Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the Group of Twenty!

Head Student Officer: Chang Huixin
Being someone who spends most of her life at Changi Airport, Huixin strongly believes that the best drink daily is none other than coffee. She believes that while coffee is good, PREPMUN is better. Stepping into the A-Level route has made her realise that maybe Geography is not as enjoyable as it seems (ok, live, laugh, love A-Level). In her free time, she can be seen vibing to KPOP (mainly AESPA) and taking 4 cuts at Haji Lane with her friends; if not, she can be spotted at Sentosa watching the sunset.

Deputy Student Officer: Eunice Chua Kai En
Having MUNned for pretty much the entirety of her secondary school life, MUN is Eunice’s second love (her first being food). As such, she is excited to be chairing outside of school conferences for the first time. When she isn’t juggling a series of deadlines, you can find her playing a multitude of sports, or taking naps. She hopes that all delegates are able to grow and learn something new from PREPMUN 2023, and hopes that they will continue on in the MUN circuit!

Deputy Student Officer: Chua Yu Han Megan
Being in her last year in secondary school, Megan often spends time pondering over combinations to take in junior college, and wondering if joining a MUN CCA would be a good idea. When she’s not busy writing essays, Megan can be found tucked in a corner with one of her dogs and some yarn, listening to awfully mainstream pop music, or maybe chasing sunsets. She hopes delegates have a fulfilling and fun experience at PREPMUN, and enjoy their time in the circuit!

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category B Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the Organisation of American States!

Head Student Officer: Tay Wen Hui, Tivia
A Secondary 3 student, Tivia is currently juggling many new responsibilities and difficult decisions like whether to take the MRT or bus back home. A humanities student through and through, Tivia can be found injecting History and Literature into her veins every week. After hours of queueing for TS tickets, you could say she's seeing “Red” after not getting tickets, leaving a “Blank Space” in her heart. What a “Cruel Summer”. Nevertheless, Tivia hopes that everyone will have an enjoyable time in PREP and looks forward to the OASis of debate. She wishes delegates the best!

Deputy Student Officer: Han Ziqin
Ziqin is a 14-year-old from RGS, standing tall (in comparison with her chosen brother) at 164.5cm. When not manifesting TS tickets with Tivia, her interests include dance, volleyball, theater, Position Papers, cheerleading, NUSH merch, and reading about progressive party member Lim Koon Teck. While her friend count in the circuit is huge, she has no regrets because what better way to make friends than discussing “Suits” S3 Ep4 with NUSH friends! In her efforts to stop using the word "discretion", she hopes everyone shares the same love for MUN and can make salient, salient points.

Deputy Student Officer: Koh Yong Diat, Isaac
Isaac is excited to be serving as a Chair for the OAS, together with Tivia and Ziqin. He is a Year 5, 17-year-old student from Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). He absolutely did not reuse this introduction from past conferences. When his social battery is drained, he can either be found at the library or the bookstore. His third year in the circuit, Isaac enjoys hearing the many salient, salient points raised by his fellow delegates at MUNs. Isaac hopes all delegates will have a great and enriching time at PREPMUN!

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category B Committees — Starting off with our Dais of the Council of the European Union!

Head Student Officer: Li Houzhe
Houzhe is a Y4 RI student taking an antithetical subject combination to his interests, videlicet Triple Science. Those interests in question span a wide range of entirely disparate topics - politics, geography, history, technology, photography, and….trains?????? An amateur political pundit through WhatsApp statuses, he distracts himself from his looming JC Subject Combination decision with excessive Wikipedia reading.

Houzhe has always viewed Europe with a venerating lens, as the continent of democracy and (arguably) successful regional cooperation. He hopes that delegates in the EU uphold this ideal while catapulting attacks at one another, the 21st century way.

Deputy Student Officer: Jonathan Huang Kaijie
Jonathan is a Year 3 NUSHie who can be frequently seen jamming to Genshin Impact's boss themes in his free time. When not worrying about his academics, Jonathan looks up at the skies above (when they are not cloudy, that is) and often ponders the mysteries of the universe. Jonathan is a busy man, which is why he left the task of writing this introduction in Houzhe's hands. He hopes to see all Ministers bring to the council all their innovative insights and their collaborative drive to push COEU debate to new heights!

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime!

Head Student Officer: Lim YuTing Elisha
Elisha is a Year 4 student at RGS studying Triple Science and Geography. As a national sailor, she spends most of her life away at sea, where you'll occasionally catch her getting concussed by her boom or drowned by her sail. When she isn't representing Singapore at international competitions, you'll catch her flexing in the gym or playing 2048 in class. In the future, she hopes to live with two cats and a duck with her partner. Elisha hopes that her UNODC delegates will have an interesting experience, and prays that no bottles will be thrown during unmoderated caucuses.

Deputy Student Officer: Chua Yun En Chloe
Chloe, commonly misspelt as Chole, has had countless people sending texts that start with "hi chole", and has resigned to her fate and accepted her new nickname. Other than that, Chloe enjoys ordering drinks (see Yakult green tea) from KOI, after falling in love with it somewhere last year. She also enjoys eating cookies and cream flavoured ice cream, and has made it her life goal to finish a pint by herself one day. Finally, Chloe hopes that delegates would have an enjoyable time at PREPMUN 2023 debating and interacting with new people!

Deputy Student Officer: Crystal Tay Yuan Ying
Crystal is a Year 3 Student at Dunman High studying triple science and history, with history being her favourite child. When she’s not pondering over the works of Franz Kafka, she enjoys relating to Taylor Swift’s entire discography, screaming at her screen during F1 Grand Prixes, and rewatching Heathers the Musical for the hundredth time. She swears she has a sleeper build, and can beat everyone at arm wrestling despite being in Band. Needless to say, she has met many invaluable peers and forged unforgettable connections in the circuit. Delegates, delegates, delegates, all of you firearm-fighting Batmans, welcome to UNODC.

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the United Nations Development Programme!

Head Student Officer: Snow Heng
Snow is a Year 5 student at Raffles Institution, taking the unique (in the circuit, at least) combination of BCME. As a science student through and through, MUN is one of her rare forays into the Humanities, but certainly one that she does not regret. Outside of MUN, she can often be found completing her sn*******ng tutorials, crocheting, or reading Chinese books, to the horror of many of her peers. She is excited to embark on her PREPMUN journey, and wishes all delegates the best of luck for the conference!

Deputy Student Officer: Huang JiaYi
JiaYi (or Jiayi, she doesn’t really know anymore) is a Year 5 student at HCI who has just successfully earned herself the title of a mugger. Although relatively new to the MUN circuit, she finds herself enjoying the debate and meeting new people in the circuit. Outside of MUN, Jiayi is a BCME student with various side hustles like playing the guitar, frisbee and mobile games. She hopes that the delegates enjoy debating UNDP’s very interesting topic, and looks forward to chairing at PREPMUN 2023!

Deputy Student Officer: Lin Yulin
Yulin often questions herself on how and why she stumbled upon the MUN circuit. However, that does not stop her from enjoying her time spent MUNning. As a true humanities student, she can be found exploring the world of Chinese literature and going café hopping around Singapore outside of MUN. She hopes that all delegates will enjoy their time at the conference!

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation!

Head Student Officer: Chan Shun Hang Isaac
As a busy Year 4 student in RI eternally questioning his choice to take Triple Science (with a specific distaste for Biology), Isaac has found solace in MUN and enjoys the great deal of research and learning involved, as well as meeting the welcoming people in the circuit. Outside of MUN, Isaac is a self-proclaimed choir enthusiast, going to as many choral concerts as his time (and wallet) allow, and cringing every time he hears horrifically out-of-tune karaoke (but live and let live!). Isaac wishes all delegates the best in UNESCO, and looks forward to seeing meaningful and fiery debate!

Deputy Student Officer: Chai Meixu
Despite (still) resonating with how scary MUN sounds, Mei Xu, a 14-year-old student has been trying to find her way in the circuit. Since her experience in MUN last year, she has found her passion in MUN and is thrilled to chair for the first time. She believes that MUN provides a platform for growth and encourages all delegates to not be afraid of making mistakes. Outside MUN, you can find her indulging in random psychology facts or singing. She wishes all delegates the best for their MUN journey ahead, and hopes for fruitful debate in PREPMUN '23!

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the Social, Cultural, and Humanitarian Committee!

Head Student Officer: Seah Shi Han
Shi Han first entered the MUN circuit in 2019 and has been talking about retireMUN ever since 2021. Nevertheless, he could not live with his own failure. Where has that brought him? Back to chairing (for the first time) at PREPMUN. As he now lives his best life with a nine-month long break before matriculating into SMU, he spends most of his free time learning how to code and watching Sidemen videos. He hopes that delegates will have a fun time in PREPMUN and forge friendships that go beyond the conference!

Deputy Student Officer: Ye Anyi
Anyi is currently a Year 1 Student at NTU. Despite being older than the average MUNner, she assures her delegates that her age is nothing intimidating. As a huge Swiftie, she has learnt what camping outside a post office is like. Even though she has mostly retired from MUN, Anyi still enjoys delving into various sociopolitical issues, hence her participation at the other end of the room. Anyi hopes delegates step out of their comfort zone and leave with and lifelong friendships!

Deputy Student Officer: Krish Deepak Nagrani
Krish (AKA KDNagrani) enjoys engaging in vehement debates (as a law student should) while playing with his fluffy friend, Krunchie! When not immersing himself in opus ranging from classics, philosophy, thrillers and self-help books, he can be found frequenting museums both local and abroad as a part of his contemplative journey. He also appreciates shrewd games of chess.

Recently emerging in the MUN circuit, Krish bounds from conference to conference, both domestic and international, just like how organ trafficking transcends national boundaries. Krish relishes working on this odyssey with his fellow StOffs and wishes all delegates a memorable PREPMUN experience.

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the International Telecommunication Union!

Head Student Officer: Spencer Ong Hao Min
Spencer, the resident hopeless romantic, has a passion for anything and everything. Hailing from NUS High, he enjoys reading literature in his free time while jamming to k-ballads and blackbear. Having been on the conquest for the best bubble tea one can find, Spencer has decided that with the exception of milk tea (which goes to SanChen), KOI reigns supreme. Spencer has had a blast this year and (im)patiently awaits PREPMUN 2023, helmed alongside his amazing Dais, and hopes that delegates will have fun and fruitful council debate at PREPMUN 2023! (written by Ryan and Jisoo)

Deputy Student Officer: Kim Jisoo
Jisoo, the resident brainiac from RGS, signs up for anything and everything within a 50-mile radius. From jamming out to Machine Gun Kelly and blackbear with Spencer, she has been there through his eras to listening to emo songs with him at SMUN 2023. A bubbly person through-and-through, she often ends up being the ‘mom’ of this merry band of friends, and their unofficial leader way too often for her liking. With her astounding fashion sense (and earrings) and her teddy-bear nature, she hopes that all delegates will have a fabulous time at PREPMUN 2023! (written by Spencer)

Deputy Student Officer: Zhao Xihao Ryan
The resident mathematician (ironically), Ryan can be recognised from a mile away. A true Rafflesian, Ryan can likely be found doing math (integration, differentiation, you name it) but his true passion lies in sudoku, sulking over Ferrari's F1 performance, and listening to Taylor Swift (don't buy Eras tickets). While his music taste may be basic, his sleep schedule definitely isn’t, with a bedtime ranging from 10pm to 6am. Perhaps Ryan should take better care of himself by understanding the importance of sleeping. He looks forward to meeting delegates at the conference! (written by Jisoo)

Hear from our Student Officers for PREPMUN 2023 👐

Introducing our Category A Committees — Continuing on with our Dais of the Disarmament and International Security Committee!

Head Student Officer: Kailasom Aditya Suresh
Aditya is a JC1 student at Victoria Junior College, taking HELM and thoroughly enjoying not having to study any form of Science whatsoever. As an avid fan of the humanities and all it has to offer, MUN has become the classical way for him to put to use his argumentative skills while looking good in WBA. In his free time, he enjoys experimenting in cooking and vibing to The Weeknd which is always a soul-elevating experience. With that, Aditya is excited to welcome all delegates to PREPMUN'23 and hopes it will be a memorable experience for all delegates!

Deputy Student Officer: Nay Wun Thant
Nay Wun is a Y2 Rafflesian who loves yet hates his never-ending deadlines, and adores the humanities. Starting off notepassing in PREPMUN’22, he has developed a love for MUN, and is honoured to kickstart his chairing career with his maiden MUN. He loves football but constantly cries over his favourite team, Manchester United. Further, he types with full-stops and capital letters on WhatsApp because that’s ‘good English’. As resident public transport enthusiast, he enjoys giving route advice using his 5,000+ bus guides. Nay Wun hopes his friendliness will make his delegates love MUN, like what PREPMUN’22 did for him.

Deputy Student Officer: Wong Chi Ching Janice
Janice, a Y3 PCHL student from RGS, is furiously typing this out on a Tuesday night whilst combing through the product of yet another bad haircut. She can often be found rapping Hamilton lyrics in blissful ignorance of her endless slew of deadlines, and desperately defending Haruki Murakami. Janice is also a devoted fan of the film Dead Poets Society, and occasionally peruses the works of Mao Zedong. She is guaranteed to add much Sugar and Spice to the DISEC council, and wishes all delegates a fruitful experience at PREPMUN!
