Getting sidelined by a running injury can be disheartening 😭, especially if running is something you truly enjoy and holds great significance to you. 🫶🏻 Going through the rehab journey while unable to run can be incredibly frustrating. Doubts creep in, fears seem insurmountable, and questions about crossing that finishing line again become relentless.

Due to some recent unfortunate event, it has got me thinking a lot this past week. In our fast paced lifestyle, this has been a week of reset, restart and refocus for me 🍀

🔁 Reset: Much like a period of recovery, life sometimes demands a reset. This week called for a recalibration of emotions. It’s not about erasing the pain, but acknowledging it and finding the strength to navigate through it. I must say it ain’t easy.

🔄 Restart: Restarting for me is to reflect, learn, and take intentional steps forward. Just like how our journey to recovery might require us restarting a certain exercise regime after an injury.

🎯 Refocus: Just as recovery guides us to refocus on well-being, this week urged me to refocus on the positive, on the beautiful moments that has happened. It’s about redirecting energy towards gratitude and channelling it into a meaningful, forward-focused path.

It’s always good to hear back from patients on how they are getting on after discharge from rehab. Most rehab journeys ended with a bang, but for some, the daily grinds continue beyond those rehab sessions.

Sometimes, it isn’t just the physical grind that you need to work on, especially when the pain has persisted beyond the healing time frame. The rehab triad I called it - the mind, body and spirit - they intertwine and affect your overall well-being beyond that pain and injury.

1 year on, knowing that I’ve made a positive impact is the greatest reward. Thank you for entrusting me with your care. Your kind words fuel my passion for what I do. 🙏🏻💙

Cloudy with a chance of....

No meatball here guys! 😂😂😅

But we have rainy season ⛈️😝! And I'm also hearing more and more patients telling me in the clinic that their pain is associated with the weather. ⚡🌧️

Ever wonder why your knee hurts when it rains or when it is cold? It could mean that your recovery time might be slower than expected. 😣

Knowing that pain is such a multifactorial topic 😰, attributing that pain to a particular cause does not help much. For example, weather could also affect our mood and increase the chances of us being inactive (likelihood of staying under the roof more and engage in less physical activity), and that could also contribute to changes in the joint and affect how we feel. Could it also be that because we believe that our pain is influenced by the weather and that believe or anticipation enhance that painful experience? 🤔

Regardless of what it is, exercise has been shown to be beneficial for reducing pain to a certain extent and more importantly improving your mobility and function. So stay active this rainy season and if you wonder how you can do that with this niggling pain of yours, feel free to reach out! 👍

Back pain + tennis = not fun 😣

Sharing this dynamic warm-up drills incorporating the movements that's essential for one of my patients.

When one part of your body isnt working properly, you will compensate and overwork the other part.

Analyzing the movements and techniques you use in your sports is important to prevent the pain from coming back in the future.

Strength 🏋️ may not always be the answer to your pain and sometimes it could be as simple as incorrect/inefficient movements or techniques or skipping your warm up altogether 🙈

Let me show you how you can maximize your time with the following 3 tips:
1. Blend these plans or exercises into your routine and lifestyle - you know yourself best, so communicate with your physio about this to find out how to accomodate these plans so that it works for you
2. Schedule the exercises in your little pockets of time throughout the day ⏳
3. If you can't do all, at least start with one 😉
Habits take time to grow 📆, let's 💪
