👀✨ Testing innovative TCM treatments for my hard working eyes✨👀
A very nice article on TCM and modern medicine. Regarding the following paragraphs, I want to share some of my personal thoughts.
“A further challenge comes with the lack of standardisation of TCM treatments. As Harvard Medical School’s Ted Kaptchuk describes in his book, The Web That Has No Weaver, six patients with stomach ulcers (as diagnosed by a conventional doctor) could be diagnosed with six different unique syndromes in TCM, each with its own herbal remedy.
While in some sense, this lack of standardisation can be considered a plus – TCM offers highly personalised and tailored treatments – it also makes it more challenging to assess the efficacy of a treatment for a given condition. This, in turn, makes collaboration even more difficult, since the standards of efficacy within Western medicine are not easily applied to TCM or other traditional medical practices.”
If we take stomach ulcers as an example, and want to collaborate or compare the efficacy between modern / conventional medicine, we can choose ONE of the six TCM syndromes to do research, then the TCM prescription / herbal remedy can be standardised. The research team will only need to include a TCM physician to determine the RIGHT candidates with the RIGHT syndromes to be included in the research.
Another example is mastitis, it is called (乳痈) Ru Yong in TCM. We have a fixed, registered herbal remedy for this particular issue. Treatments are standardised and Clinical results are also easily verified, even patients who have tried both conversational antibiotics treatments and this registered mastitis herbal remedy could tell and share the difference of the clinical results.
More and more TCM and modern medicine researches may help in defining certain diseases in more detail and even more sub-types, which may benefit the improvement of modern medicine treatments too. Just like stomach ulcers, there maybe be more defined types of modern medicine born to different sub-types of stomach ulcers.

Children grow faster in the spring?
Jingzhe, or Awakening of Insects, is the third of China's 24 solar terms. It means that the spring season wakes up the animals hibernating in the soil.
“If you think the son/niece/grandchild in your life is sprouting before your eyes now that the winter clothing has been shed, you're probably not imagining things. Researchers have long studied the connection between seasonal changes and youth growth patterns, with substantial evidence pointing to higher rates of growth among children in the Northern Hemisphere during the spring and summer months. “
