Children only grow up once, to help parents understand their children's development progress and to promote parent-child interaction, Eden Foundation once again organized the "Love Children Happiness Festival" as International Children's Day approach on 1st, June to promote the concept of "all children should be loved" and held a press conference at the Far Eastern Department Store Mega City Banqiao on 25th, May. In addition to invited the famous star Ms. Roro Huang and illustration character Shiba Says experience the challenge-clearing game with the Slow-Flying Angel Hsiao Ju, a child development information consultation was planned for the coming weekend on 28th, May to support the growth of children without getting delay!
The three years and eight months old slow-flying angel Hsiao Ju is a premature baby, at the age of one, her mother found out that she had no spoken language skills and could not even express simple babbling sounds, and could only express her emotions by crying. she even did not respond to simple daily instructions such as brushing teeth, washing hands, or going to the toilet. When the mother took Hsiao Ju out, she would often hear negative comments such as "how can your child be like this" and "you must not be able to teach your child", let the mother faces enormous pressure to take care of Hsiao Ju every day. Fortunately, after more than two years of early intervention service, Hsiao Ju can now say "Daddy, Mommy" and short sentences, and her self-care ability has also improved. The mother said that when she heard Hsiao Ju's call and saw her progress, she was moved and excited. She also hoped that the public would give more encouragement and empathy to the Slow-Flying family and warmly accompany the child's growth.
Ms. Roro Huang, a full range star who is the charity ambassador of the festival, said as a mother of three children, she is also like having three sweet burdens, and she deeply understands that parenting is not an easy task, especially when she was pregnant with her oldest child, she had to undergo an emergency surgery because the baby's head was too big, and she was very anxious about the after-effects of the baby. Luckily, the surgery went well and the baby is healthy and safe. The all three of her children are allergic, and her daughter even developed severe allergies not long after she was born. So far, she needs to go back to the clinic regularly, and it hurts her heart to see her little body struggling. It's a good thing that she has the help and support of her family and husband, and that the whole family can overcome all the challenges together. Her greatest wish is accompanying her children to grow up safely and healthily.
The charity ambassador Roro Huang also appealed that every child has the right to grow up well. When a child is found to have a growth delay, parents should not be afraid or hesitant to seek help as soon as possible. At the same time, she calls for the public that some children are slow in development, but only believed that with patient companionship and the help of early intervention services, the slow-flying angels would have a opportunity to turn around their growth difficulties. Therefore, we should not discriminate against children in need of help, and we should extend our friendly and tolerant hands to be the most powerful support for the families of slow-flying angels.
This year, Eden Foundation conducted a survey on the current situation of childcare for 0~6 years old, and found that nearly 40% of the caregivers who face the developmental delay of child growth were not willing to seek help due to traditional thinking or fear of being labeled, and most of them chose to wait and observe. And 40% of parents will not seek out reach help when they encounter parenting problems. Parents play a very important role in their children's development, but there can be more than one Superhero to accompany the children to grow up smoothly. When parents encounter parenting problems, just remember to seek help, especially in the face of slow-flying angels, and remember to grasp the golden growth period to help their children catch up with their growth. Eden looks forward to calling on the public to give their children quality companionship through the Love Children Happiness Festival, and to support their children to grow up without getting delay.
Mr. Mitch Tsao, Vice CEO of Eden Foundation, said they have been focusing on children's services for a long time, providing daycare, daytime and home-based care services according to children's different needs and growth development, hoping to help slow-flying angels catch up with their growth progress. In the Love Children Happiness Festival, the theme is "Meet the Mysterious Genies of Geometry Kingdom", combining geometry, color, space and other concepts, through parent-child interactive experience challenges, allowing parents to understand and observe their children's growth progress through games. Eden also launched a parent-child interactive game handbook for free and help parents to use materials readily available at home to make fun games then observe their children's development through interaction. This year, the Love Children Happiness Festival will last for one week from now until June 1, and will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The event is free to visit and the further information please do not hesitate to search for “Eden Love Children Happiness Festival”.

Eight years of war... On the eighth anniversary of the conflict in Yemen, we share with you the story of Zaid Ali.
Zaid is a 12-year-old boy living in Dubab, Mokha, in the Taiz governorate of Yemen. He and his family spent four years fleeing conflict and bombings. When the violence started to decrease, they returned home…
One day, while playing outside with friends, Zaid stepped on something - either a landmine or an improvised explosive device. It exploded, causing him severe injuries and changing his life forever.
Zaid's story is a reminder of the dangers posed by the mines and explosive weapons littering the whole of Yemen. In the words of Zaid:
"I am warning my friends to be careful not to step on mines. Stay away from them – they are dangerous things."
In 2012, when Omar was 24 years old, he was spending time in his garden in Syria when he was injured by a shell, a large-calibre projectile fired from a tank. He was rushed to the hospital by his neighbour where he then had to have his leg amputated.

Eden announces 2023 survey on the current state of child care, 80% of parents in the dilemma of burning many candles
Are you tired? A child's safety is a parent's greatest wish, but most parents are helpless and isolated when their children encounter developmental difficulties. To call on the public to give strong support to families with early treatment, the Eden Foundation announced today that earlier this year, in collaboration with the INSIGHTXPLORER LIMITED, a survey was conducted on the current situation for caregivers of child aged 0-6 years old, and it was found that more than 60% of parents have had the experience of having no one to help them when their children are sick or have unexpected events. As many as 80% of parents have faced the dilemma of not being able to take care of both work, family and children.
According to Mr. Ben Lin, Vice CEO of Eden Foundation, the survey shows that "communication" and "companionship" are important to parents in parenting, with more than 90% (98.8%) of parents saying they are willing to discuss problems with their children and listen to the difficulties their children encounter. However, only 60% (63.1%) of parents are satisfied with the quality of their current companionship. Nearly 80% (78.4%) of parents spend less than four hours a day with their children. These statistics show that most families feel that they don’t have enough time to raise their children in the face of life's pressures.
Ben said, “The dilemma of burning many candles is even more obvious for families with early treatment.” In Eden's service experience, many families are overwhelmed when their children's growth is delayed. When coupled with the social environment, family structure and financial pressures, making the whole family speed up the disorder and be on the verge of collapse. Therefore, Eden Early Intervention Service is like a consultant for the Guardians of Slow-Flying Family, arranging therapy sessions for children with the family at the core. Through parent-child activities, parenting seminars and regular therapy meetings, we help parents to build up the five practical skills in parenting, including "communication", "learning", "self-confidence", "decision-making" and "influence", this will enable parents to better understand their children's needs and to actively and confidently accompany their children to cross the growth barriers and reduce the stress of caregiving.
At the Eden press conference for the launch of the " Guardians of the slow-flying families, Battle on the baby growth " and the " survey on the current state of child care " on 7th, March, the well-known Actor Mr. Tony Yang, who was invited to be the Captain Charity, brought along Slow-Flying Angel Hsiao Shan and Hsiao Shan's mother to gather five super powers to assemble the incredible team for the guardians, calling on the public to take action to support and accompany slow-flying families to unlock the task of growing their children with developmental delays.
Hsiao Shan is a Five-and-a-half-year-old girl who suffering from rare disease of Rett Syndrome which makes her autonomous capability is weak then requires other people support to walk. Although it was hard for Hsiao Shan’s mother to accept at first, her felt that she had to be strong when she saw Hsiao Shan’s smile. So, she took her child to all the hospitals, applied for certificates of disability and rare diseases, and tried to find resources. But the pressure and exhaustion that swept over her, made her mother's body and mind increasingly overwhelmed.
Hsiao Shan’s mother was really tired of running around by her own self, but after bringing her child to our Taipei Early Intervention Service Center, she had a change of heart. In the two-and-a-half year early intervention daycare class, the educare givers accompanied Hsiao Shan to do walking exercises every day and arranged fun activities to stimulate her learning. In addition, Eden accompanied her mother out of her worries, and the social worker and the educare giver often understands the difficulties she encounters in caring for her child and giving her advice also tips on how to communicate with her child, when she came to the center dropping off or picking up her child. As well as helping to match the resources of the rare disease clinic and related associations, so that Hsiao Shan's mother could have in-depth exchanges with specialists and other rare disease parents. She is now a positive and motivated mother who often brings Hsiao Shan to various parent-child activities, hoping to create wonderful memories together on her child's learning journey.
In the 40 years since its establishment, Eden has helped more than 20,000 children with developmental delays and their families each year. We encourage slow-flying families to come forward and hope the public to give friendly treatment and action response to support Eden's " Services Programs for Underprivileged Children ", or contact the donation hotline 0800-025-885. Guarding a family by accompanying a child with love.

Fengshan has a new choice for parents, toys to borrow with
“Many toys and picture books, even have the bouncing bed!” On the 13th of Feb., it’s the anniversary of Fengshan Child Development Community Service Center which located in the Woman, Children and Youth Center, Social Affaire Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government. The community units such as Fengshan Social Welfare Center, Fengshan Wujia Social Welfare Center and Fengshan Guangfu Infant Daycare Center were invited to participate in the achievement exhibition of the community service center together with the community people and young children.
Fengshan Child Development Community Service Center is entrusted by the Social Bureau of Kaohsiung City Government and operated by Eden Social Welfare Foundation, providing parenting consultation and seminars, developing community-based services and early intervention hourly services. The center also provides a wealth of toys to enhance the development of children, so that children at every stage of development can receive age-appropriate stimulation and have a safe and comfortable play space.
The event opened with a rhythm performance by the slow-flying Angels from the hourly class, followed by a video recording of the learning of the children at the center. For example, 5-year-old En-Chi, who was referred by the social worker to Fengshan Community Service Center which nearer her home, has made significant progress in cognition and expression through the early intervention hourly service. The mother is now able to enjoy parent-child time more and the child is smiling more, instead of only focusing on the child's capacities as in the beginning.
The director of Fengshan Early Intervention Service Center, Mr. Cheng-Chieh Wang, said that Fengshan Child Development Community Services Center is working towards the goal of "community-based", hoping to serve more parent-child families, not only planning parent-child outings, but also going to community centers, churches and other spaces to conduct parenting classes. In 2022, we connected 12 units to hosted total of 22 family support and parent-child activities, providing service for about 600 people and serving 30 families with early intervention services each week.
The service hours of the Fengshan Child Development Community Service Center are 08:00 am to 17:00 pm, from Monday to Friday, and Monday morning is open for preschool children who under 6 years old and their caregivers to use the play space, educational games and children's picture books, etc. If you would like to know more about the service or volunteering, please refer to Fengshan Child Center fan page, call +886-7-719-8578 or visit us at Room 101, No. 120, Sec. 2, Guangfu Road, Fengshan District, Kaohsiung City.

Yilan Tatong Parent-Child Center invites children and parents to make lanterns to celebrate the Lantern Festival
The Chinese Lunar New Year holiday has just ended, and the lively Lantern Festival was right behind it. Yilan Tatong Parent-Child Center held a Lantern Festival event at the Lumbi Library on 3rd, Feb., calling on 15 local volunteers to accompany 15 families to experience lanterns DIY and Zentangle, linking the festival with life, integrating aesthetic education into the living environment, and allowing children to feel the joyful atmosphere of the Lantern Festival. In order to give the parents a breathing space, the volunteers accompanied the children to make lanterns, while the parents were led by the volunteer teachers to meditate on the Zentangle, which heals the mind and hopes that the parents will have more motivation to accompany their children to grow up healthy and happy.
The Supervisor of Yilan Tatong Parent-Child Center, Ms. Mei-Feng Hua said that most of the people in Tatung Township are farmers and their children are taken care of by their seniors or neighbors. The Chinese Lunar New Year holiday lasts for 10 days, so children and parents spend more time together at home, but they find that parents do not know how to interact with their children. To enhance the parenting function, Tatong Parent-Child Center invited children and parents to experience DIY activity on the eve of the Lantern Festival. The children were accompanied by volunteers to make the lanterns, training fine hand movements and hand-eye coordination. During the process of making the lanterns, there was a lot of laughter and the children were happy to write down their New Year wishes. On the other hand, the parents were arranged to forget their stress by drawing lines and completing the Zentangle with their brushes. After the artwork was completed, parents and children shared their experience in making the artwork to increase parent-child interaction.
In order to increase the diversity of experience and enhance the integration of aboriginal cultures, the Zentangle course was specially arranged to integrate with the aboriginal totems, and invited Ms. Yan-Shu Lee, the 60 years old and with 6 years volunteer service for Eden, to be the course instructor. She uses her expertise in Zentangle to lead parents to meditate on their paintings, and encourages them to be creative and add aboriginal tribe elements to their paintings, so that the paintings not only have a healing and stress-relieving effect, but are also full of power, hoping that through the painting process, parents can relieve the pressure of care giving.
Since the Tatong Parent-Child Center started its services in 2022, Eden has been actively understanding and listening to the needs of parents. Considering the wide coverage of Tatong Township, we have used the mobile outreach vehicle to deliver the services to every village in Tatong Township in order to let local residents know about the services of the Parent-Child Center, and at the same time, we have conducted on-site surveys on the needs of families and distributed parent-child teaching kits. In addition to enhancing parent-child interaction, it also allows children to feel the love and care of their parents, which is very helpful in cultivating positive abilities such as love, security, self-confidence and enthusiasm in children.
Yilan Tatong Parent-Child Center is open every Tuesday to Sunday, providing an environment for parents and children to read and play together in the Tatung Township area. In addition to the resources in the center, we also hold parent-child classes, parenting education, parenting courses and parenting counseling services, and cooperate with local churches to jointly plan parenting activities and bring toys and picture books to the rural community. Parents are also invited to participate in the event in the hope that every child can grow up happily. Please feel free to contact us at +886-3-980-9302.
Service user with severe intellectual disabilities of Yilan Education and Nursing Institute become happy expert shoppers for the Chinese Lunar New Year
During the Chinese Lunar New Year season, in view of the changing epidemic situation, many of our service users chose to stay at the Yilan Education and Nursing Institute to spend a warm holidays time with the social workers and educare givers. For this reason, the Yilan Education and Nursing Institute arranged the Eden Annual Banquet for the service user to gather with our staff to enjoy a delicious meal and feel the lively atmosphere of Chinese New Year.
Among the service users, Abao with severe intellectual disability, who is 41 years old and did not return home for New Year's Eve. Under the multiple considerations of Abao’s mother, in order to avoid the risk of infection after returning home, she decided to let Abao stay at the institution to spend the Chinese Lunar New Year with his friends. Originally, Abao was taken care of by his parents together, but after his father passed away, his mother was unable to take care of him on her own, so 12 years ago, Abao came to Yilan Education and Nursing Institute to receive 24-hours residential services. At first, Abao was unable to adapt to the residential life and was often in conflict with his peers because he could not control his emotions, and even showed behaviors such as hitting, self-harm, and constant agitation. However, under the care and companionship of the social worker and the staff, Abao gradually developed a sense of trust and security, and adapted to group life. He not only gets along well with his peers, but also becomes a caring helper for the educare givers, helping to organize the environment, wipe down tables, and collect clothes. These changes also gave Abao a sense of accomplishment.
In addition, although Abao is staying in the institution, his mother who loves him very much will visits him every month and takes him out to go shopping, which makes Abao as an expert shopper, look forward to the monthly shopping trips with his mother. However, after the epidemic had warmed up, her mother was worried that Abao would not be able to wear the mask for a long time, so she reduced her chances of going out with him. Fortunately, there is now a supermarket mobile shopping truck that comes to the institution and can satisfy Abao's needs and pleasures. From the selection of items to the checkout, Abao's face shows a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. Now, Abao is not only familiar with the residential life, but also happily shares with her mother every month what happened in the institution. His mother was happy to see the changes in Abao, and not only she is confident with the services that provide by our social worker and the educare giver, but also she is relieved to see Abao living in the institution.
Eden Foundation indicated that Yilan Education and Nursing Institute has been serving the local community for nearly 20 years, and its main service targets are persons with severe, extreme or multiple physical and mental disabilities. Not only do we provide daily care and self-care training, but we also provide the service users with the opportunity to learn various talents through the guidance of professional instructors. We also pay attention to the individual needs of each service user and arrange relevant courses or activities for them to help them develop their potential, find the value of life, and gain more confidence and goals for themselves. Caring for the persons with disabilities is a lifelong burden and responsibility for families. Eden will be a supportive force for families on this long road to care for the persons with disabilities together.
We held the interior on-job training for 15 Eden staff as the Online Expert Symposium on How to Connect the Quadrennial Report with the Preparation and Participation for United Nations (UN) Summit and Side Event in the end of Dec., since Eden Foundation has been granted special consultative status of the Committee on Non- Governmental Organizations (NGOs) by UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) in the late 2021. We indeed learned a lot of the targets and indicators of SDGs under different works, how to partner with the UN Agencies and how does the contents of quadrennial report be composed by what should be doing at meetings/conferences. We really had the great time with these two invited speakers of the Tzu Chi Foundation, Mr. Steven CHIU, Representative of New York Office and Mr. Sean Chor Siong TAN who from Malaysia, currently is the Special Assistant to the CEO.

Event Description: In this talk, disabled dancer and choreographer Alice Sheppard considers the dynamic relationships of movement, architecture, and public space. Sheppard learned her craft partly in a dance studio, and partly on the street interacting with people and the built environment. She quickly learned that architecture and movement fed each other in challenging ways, especially when it came to her lived experience as a Black disabled q***r woman. Carving through the walls of so-called accessible buildings and contouring around the movements of well-established dance forms, Sheppard surfaces her joy in disabled movement and pleasure in the unexpected architectures of body, building, and space.
