Nearly 150 medical physicists from around the country landed in Hanover, New Hampshire last week for the annual American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) โSummer Schoolโ national conference. This yearโs theme was โWorkflow Optimization in Radiation Oncology: From Theory to Clinical Implementation.โ
This yearโs Summer School was co-led by Program Director Colleen J. Fox, PhD, DABR, clinical physicist in Dartmouth Cancer Centerโs Department of Radiation Oncology, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. โI am so proud of the impressive faculty we were able to assemble from across Dartmouth, along with physicists and physicians from around the US and Canada. Several Dartmouth Engineering graduate students are also participating,โ says Fox, who also co-edited the monograph for this yearโs conference.

The goal of the recently established International Council (IC) of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine is to identify and develop strategies for advancing the practice of globally, address disparities in healthcare and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with other global stakeholders. To maximize the impact of the IC's work there is an urgent need to conduct a rigorous up-to-date needs assessment.
If you are a medical physicist working in a Low-to-Middle-Income Country ( ), the AAPM Global Needs Assessment Committee would appreciate your help in responding to this confidential survey. Responding to this survey is estimated to take about 15 minutes or less. If you have any questions about the survey, contact the Global Needs Assessment Committee at gnac at aapm dot org.
