Bagel Rescue

Bagel Rescue is a non-profit organization supporting hunger relief in the Atlanta metro area. We connect restaurants with excess food to neighbors in need.

Through donations from local bakeries, volunteers deliver bagels to food pantries and shelters.

We love to see our Bagel Rescue advocates out and about at our bagel donor shops! Mrs. Epstein spent some time with our friends Julie and Steven at The Bronx Bagel Buggy!

September is Hunger Action Month! Thank you for being an advocate for our mission to reduce food insecurity, one bagel at a time. Together we can make a difference!

Join with others around the globe working to eradicate poverty on this International Day of Charity hosted by United Nations. It's a great day to volunteer, make a donation, or just show a little extra love and compassion to those in need.

Smiling faces and helping hands are always in abundance at metro Atlanta Einstein Bros. Bagels when we pop in for our rescues. These two can be found in Duluth at the Medlock Bridge location.

How lucky we are to be working with the bright minds behind GT Bits of Good, a student led and operated organization at Georgia Tech with the mission of supporting non-profits through technology solutions. Tonight our Chief Rescue officer Erin and our Board of Directors Secretary Ilene were honored to attend the Launch Party for the 2024-25 projects. We can't wait to share more about how their customized solutions improve our logistics and help increase our impact in metro Atlanta. Thank you to our project team, led by Raksha, for their dedication to Bagel Rescue's success!

On holidays when our partner agencies are closed, we serve our community mission by sharing yummy bagels with firefighters. These heroes support their communities during fires, traffic accidents, and medical emergencies, and spend many overnights at their stations. An energizing bagel breakfast is our little way of saying thanks. We're so happy to celebrate these firefighters, especially on Labor Day.

09/02/2024

Happy Labor Day! To all who work to keep our communities fed, safe, and healthy - we celebrate you!

Sending lots of love to our partners Never Alone Community Food Pantry and their Executive Director Millie in Woodstock! We get to deliver bagels to them at least twice a week, thanks to our fabulous volunteers Kathy and Howard.

It's so nice being part of the Atlanta food rescue community where we have each other's backs! Thanks to Second Helpings Atlanta, Inc. for freezing bagels for us over the holiday weekend so we can make sure they go to good use next week.
Our collective mission to repurpose excess food to help neighbors in need is even more achievable when we support one another.

Not only did we get to work with a fabulous group of AgeWell Atlanta volunteers.
Not only did they create 200 family packs of bagels that were distributed to our partner agencies.
Not only did we partner with American Cancer Society - Georgia Hope Lodge Atlanta for a beautiful space for our workshop and get a tour of their amazing facility by their incomparable Director Danny Sheltz.
We also had a lot of fun doing it!
Thanks to Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta for powering our Tikkun Olam programming.

There's so much joy in being connected to Community efforts for Positive Change! When the Fulton County District Attorney's Office reached out about serving bagels at their recent Peace & Prevention summit, we were thrilled to take part!

Thanks to Creating Connected Communities for fostering philanthropic hearts in Atlanta's next great leaders. Our Chief Rescue Officer had the honor of speaking at a CCC session alongside inspiring philanthropist Sara Stonberg Kogon. Kudos to these teens for spending their free time learning to support their community. Thanks for all the snaps!

Thanks to Coleman Middle - Duluth for inviting our Chief Rescue Officer as a guest speaker. We loved giving your 8th graders the scoop about Bagel Rescue. We can't wait to see what awesome projects you decide to tackle this year.

Is there a better National Dog Day snack than these "beagle bagels"? We think not.

08/25/2024

We love getting out into the community to share our mission. Thanks to East Atlanta Business Association for inviting us to their General Meeting to do just that.
We're looking for volunteers in East Atlanta and the Beltline. Routes take as little as 20 minutes! Contact us at [email protected].

What's better than a mom who volunteers? A mom who engages her daughter in volunteering too! Thanks to mom Deborah and daughter Cate for being two of our awesome bagel rescuers.

We loved having Halle as a volunteer during her summer break from college. Wishing her a wonderful Junior year. We can't wait to see the big things she does in the future!

Big thanks to the Gohil family for packaging bagels for Suthers Center for Christian Outreach, a weekly food pantry drive-through in Brookhaven. The Gohils are always eager to roll up their sleeves to help neighbors in need.

08/12/2024

It's Monday and that means our rockstar volunteer Jenny is driving her regular route in Decatur. Jenny's up-for-anything, roll-up-her-sleeves positivity shines brightly. We love how she makes connections with our partners wherever she goes. How lucky we are to have Jenny on our Bagel Rescue team!

Say hi to Amy! We were lucky to gain Amy as a volunteer this summer. She jumped right in to help in East Atlanta and often drives more than one route a week. What a hero!
Thanks to our East Atlanta bagel donor Emerald City Bagels for their generosity. Have you checked out their new location on the Beltline?

Abriele knows that supporting neighbors with the right services when and where they are is essential to successfully helping people improve their lives. Project Access does this so well in apartment residences across the US! Their community approach provides food and other household and hygiene necessities, childcare, job coaching, computer access, and social connection within apartment complexes. We love their model and we love bringing them bagels and breads to nourish their communities!

Super-duper thanks to our intern Leah, a rising Junior at The Lovett School, who has helped with a bunch of workshops and routes throughout the year, especially this summer. 💙🥯😎

The Brookhaven YMSL chapter put their brawn into bagel packaging last weekend. We love working with these mother-son volunteers!

Our volunteers are amazing do-gooders in the community. Many of them have multiple weekly volunteer gigs in addition to bagel rescuing. Our volunteers Jan and Fred often bump into one another when Jan deliveries bagels to the Atlanta Community Food Bank Community Center in Stone Mountain, a pantry where Fred lends his time when he's not rescuing bagels. Jan also volunteers at Toco Hills Community Alliance when she's not rescuing. We are so proud to have these two on our team!

Way to go It's In DeKalb for supporting communities around the county with food boxes and school supplies last weekend! Bagel Rescue contributed bagel packs to the Chamblee distribution location in collaboration with the Chamblee Coalition for Homelessness, led by Christina Porter, one of our dedicated bagel rescuers who wears many hats in the effort to address the needs of residents in North Dekalb.
This distribution gave away 400 boxes of GA produce, 300 backpacks, and 100 bagel packs in 35 minutes!

On the eve of Back to School, we want to give a shout out to another one of our teen volunteers, Jake Greenfield. This rising Junior at Dunwoody High School drove a regular route during the summer. We appreciate Jake and all of our teen volunteers. We wish you a wonderful school year!

The new faculty and staff at Holy Innocents' Episcopal School capped off their orientation with a community service project with Bagel Rescue. They packaged over 5,000 bagels in 30 minutes, which supported food distributions in South Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Chamblee, Brookhaven, and Woodstock. We appreciate their effort, and the school's focus on the value of giving back.

We're so lucky to have met Christian, a rockstar volunteer at Restoring One's Hope of Atlanta, Inc. He's a GSU student who spends his free time supporting those experiencing homelessness. What an inspiration!
