Refreshed but not “changed”, as it should be ❤️

This is my comprehensive periorbital rejuvenation surgery which usually combines upper and lower blepharoplasty, fat transfer to the areas around the eyes, and a gentle brow lift for a youthful and natural look.

This lovely patient and friend is in her early 60s. She is a beautiful accomplished woman and was getting bothered by the heaviness around her eyes and the constant “tired look”.

I was so honored to take care of her as she flew from out-of-state to have her surgery. She is now 4 months after periorbital rejuvenation surgery and she looks just like herself but rested and brighter.

She had some issues with persistent swelling and inflammation after surgery. She was amazing and followed all the postop instructions to achieve good healing.

Refreshed and unchanged…only 4 weeks after surgery!

This lovely patient of mine is an example that sometimes “just an upper blepharoplasty is not just an upper blepharoplasty”…..

Like many other patients, she wanted to look brighter, less tired, younger.

I showed to her that my goal was to do all she wanted but I could do it all with only an upper blepharoplasty.

She had mild ptosis with severe loss of volume of her upper eyelids, and a slight brow descent.

If I just removed the upper eyelid skin on a patient like her, she will not look refreshed or younger, it would make her eyes look sunken and still tired.

So I performed an upper blepharoplasty with comprehensive micro fat grafting of all areas around her eyes, mild ptosis correction and a brow lift to rejuvenate her eyes.

I also did a chemical peel to the lower eyelid to improve the skin texture, and it will take another 4-8 weeks for the skin to be completely healed.

Can you spot all the subtle changes to this patient’s beautiful eyes?

Brightening someone’s look with reshaping and volumization is one of my favorite things to do!

This lovely patient of mine in her mid 50s wanted to look refreshed. My goals were to highlight her beautiful eyes by adding elements of rejuvenation:
✨a sharp and proportional upper eyelid crease
✨full upper eyelids
✨slight opening of her lateral brows and temples
✨softening of the lower eyelid fat pads and loss of volume around it

I performed and upper and lower skin only blepharoplasty, brow lift, fat grafting to the temples, lateral forehead, upper eyelids, midface and lid-cheek junction.

What I like the most about it? There are no telltale signs of surgery, just an elevated version of herself who looks refreshed and younger! ❤️

Simplicity is so underrated….the process of daily living is also underrated…

Spending time barefoot in nature appreciating the true magic from mother nature helps me connect with myself and with life, and appreciate the process. There is never a finish line, life is always evolving…

I planted the bulbs of these peonies 3 years ago….I thought I will not see them bloom again this year, it has been so long….

But I pruned and fertilized them again this year, they looked dead last Winter 🙁…., and now they are blooming with all its incredible beauty! 🤗

If you like gardening you know, there are very few things that are as uplifting as your plants blooming….

But the simplicity and the annual work process of taking care of them was so important….

Being a surgeon and the path behind it has many similarities with the peonies in bloom.

It takes years of studying and practicing and perfecting things to see the rewards of the work happening in front of you….and it only gets better if you keep working on it!

The peonies in bloom are just a reminder to keep working on what you love, even if it takes a long time to see the results of your efforts.

The process, day-by-day, is equally important than the results. Happy Sunday!

Having the right team working with you side-by-side is such an important thing in life.

We just had a great morning seeing patients and I wanted to register the moment!

Recovery after surgery can be daunting to so many patients.

We will help you get through it the best way possible, and it does require patience, especially during the first 2-3 weeks after surgery.

It also requires medications, supplements, some treatments afterwards to help you recover well, and definitely frequent follow-ups…

It is a real and great partnership between me, my team and our patients. Some things we cannot accelerate - normal physiological healing takes between six months to a year to be complete….

I love to see the long-term transformation of my patients…

This lovely patient embraced a health journey since we first met at the end of 2021, a year before her surgery. She also lost a lot of the weight before our surgery day as part of her health goals.

She was so inspiring to me, and had the best energy and commitment to improve her life inside and out!

Yes, African American patients also have facelifts and necklifts and can get beautiful and natural results with surgery.

Not all patients want to share their before and after pictures due to privacy reasons, and this is especially true for my African American patients who feel that there is a stigma in their culture against facial plastic surgery.

We all age at some point, but African Americans just age at a slower pace due to the natural thicker dermis and natural sun protection they are fortunate to have.

I do my very best to close every incision meticulously every time I operate on anyone. I enjoy seeing perfectly closed and tension free incisions.

Closure of the incisions with minimal tension is a must to avoid hypertrophic scars and keloids, especially in darker skin patients.

I am very grateful to this lovely patient of mine who allowed me to share her long term result of her deep plane face and neck lift. She had previous liposuction of her neck which left her with loose skin and irregularities.

I am so honored she trusted me and we were able to rejuvenate her face and help her look her best again! 🙏

The impactful changes a lip lift does to the lower face…

As the upper lip elongates and deflates with aging, a lip lift can restore these changes and maintain normalcy and youthfulness of the mouth.

A lip lift helps soften the smile.

Excess length of the upper lip and central facial laxity cause straining of the facial expression muscles as we smile.

On image 2, we can see a more relaxed and “free” smile after the surgery with the long lip corrected.

A few other beautiful subtle changes that can be noticed on these images is the effect of the deep plane facelift of the perioral face laxity and folding of the skin!

This is such a lovely patient of mine that wanted to restore the early facial and lip aging without relying on ongoing fillers. It was just no longer working for her in a meaningful way.

I am totally in favor of tasteful use of fillers for facial rejuvenation! I use them in my practice all the time!

However, they DO NOT FLIP A LONG LIP, and they DO NOT LIFT A DROOPY FACE.

Luckily we have options to choose from depending on what the aesthetic goals are!❤️

Natural breasts can be enhanced in size and shape with fat grafting.

Fat grafting can increase 1/2 a cup size on average per fat grafting session.

Remember - fat grafting is a “live” material that depends on good blood supply to survive.

So we cannot “stuff up” the areas of fat grafting to get “better” results, it has an injection amount limit that is dictated by the space in the area of transfer.

That is true for any body area where we can inject fat into.

Safe fat transfer always include proper planning, fat preparation and injection technique.

This is a beautiful patient of mine as an example before and after 6 months from fat transfer. ❤️

People find different ways of giving back to life.

One of my ways of giving back is to give my time and expertise back to plastic surgery education because I myself had amazing teachers that gave (and still give) so much to me so I can always give my patients my best.

Helping train the next generation of plastic surgeons is such an honor and a commitment I accepted many years ago.

I was invited to be in Louisville yesterday as a Traveling Professor of The Aesthetic Society and I had such a great time teaching facial aesthetic surgery at the Louisville Plastic Surgery residency program.

Through The Aesthetic Society, training programs in the USA can request selected Traveling Professors to teach aesthetic surgery their training programs, such a lovely opportunity to dig into specific areas of interest the residents may have.

Yesterday, we went over all the anatomy of the periorbital area on a fresh specimen, did a focused dissection exploring different eyelid and brow lift techniques techniques and finished with surgery videos and treatment algorithms for different patients.

Having dedicated time with a wonderful team of brilliant minds eager to learn was a delight.

The most common requests I get from my patients who want to improve facial aging are:
“ I want to look natural and myself” and “can you fix my droopy neck and jowls?”

Yes, looking natural is not an alternative, it is a MUST! And yes, I can fix droopy neck and jowls! 😉

Natural to me is the new dramatic.

Love seeing this beautiful patient in clinic at 6 months after extended deep plane face and necklift.

She is in her late 60’s and looks at least 10 years younger after her surgery!

Her surgery was particularly interesting as she has a large scar in the right side of her neck from a previous spine surgery which created more skin folds, which can be challenging to improve sometimes.

As you know, all scars are permanent, but I am so happy I helped her look refreshed, younger and natural with no tale tail signs of surgery. 🌟
