Sign ups for our fall overnighter are now open!

You can find the link here and in our bio: https://forms.gle/k77vbW22VEDQMrAN7

Please sign up by September 24.

For our trip this year, we're going to ride a mix of gravel and paved roads around the Oconee National Forest.

We have two route options: Light and Lengthy.
- Light: 54.5 miles, 3000ft elevation. Day 1 is 24.5 miles, day 2 is 30 miles.
- Lengthy: 80 miles, 4200ft elevation. Day 1 is 36 miles, day 2 is 44 miles.

Is this ride for me?
- Do you like riding bikes, camping out with friends, and hanging around campfires?
- For the Light ride, we'd recommend being comfortable with riding 35-40 miles on an unloaded bike.
- For the Lengthy ride, we'd recommend being comfortable with riding 60 miles on an unloaded bike.
- Either way, this ride shouldn't be the longest you've ridden in one day.
- You should also be familiar with group riding and riding on unpaved surfaces.

What will the campsite be like?
- The campsite is a primitive site. We'll be camping on gravel campsite pads and using a pit toilet.
- No electricity is accessible at the campsites.
- Although there is no running water, we will provide water for drinking and cooking.

Do I have the right bike?
- For this ride, we'd recommend a gravel bike, hybrid, or hardtail mountain bike. Think knobby tires of at least moderate width (32c or wider—it's written on the side of your tire).
- This route is not friendly for road bikes.

What else do I need to know?
- RAR ATL's gear library also includes some camping gear, such as tents and sleeping bags, on top of their bikepacking bag inventory.

- All riders must be able to attend a pre-ride meeting on the evening of Wednesday, September 27.

- We highly recommend you have your bike tuned up before the ride at a local bike shop.

We are taking initiative to prioritize safety on all of our future rides. We are looking for 12 to 15 volunteers who would be available to be ride marshals for our monthly rides and/or on our bikepacking trips. We will hold ride marshal trainings before we restart our group rides in September.

- are comfortable riding in traffic
- are comfortable blocking traffic at intersections
- can comfortably ride 10-15 miles
- are comfortable addressing fellow riders for unsafe behavior
- are comfortable calling out road hazards (i.e. being loud!)

Extra points (but not required) if:
- you have previous experience ride marshaling
- you have experience fixing a flat tire or any other mechanical skills
- you have first aid training
- you're an extrovert

The gear library is closed for the month of June as we are moving to a new space and need time to reorganize - more on that soon!

Our next event will be our monthly skillshare in July, which we will announce in the coming weeks.

Thanks for rocking with us and we’re excited for what’s to come ✨

✨Updates from RAR ATL✨

We’re making some changes that we’re excited to share with our community:

🍺Monthly Happy Hours: we’re eliminating our monthly happy hours due to team capacity; with a goal of repurposing our time and energy towards other programming.

🚴🏾‍♀️Rides: we’re updating our ride schedule! We'll have a trans + enby ride, BIPOC ride, and an all community ride. Our affinity rides will rotate monthly, and we will keep our monthly all community ride. We will not be hosting the all community ride this month (May) so that we can build new routes and create a schedule for the rest of the year. Going forward, our rides will leave from different spots around the city.

⛓️Skillshare: our skillshares will continue - a 30 minute lesson at the beginning with dedicated time to work on your bike afterwards! You do not need to have any previous knowledge to attend our skillshares - they are learning spaces.

⛺️Gear Library: we’re continuing to expand our gear library while providing more education around routes, what kind of gear we have, and how our community can engage with it on a regular basis. Stay tuned for more updates on this!

We appreciate our community and the feedback we’ve received over the past few months. We’re excited for the upcoming changes and look forward to continuing to share space with all of you 💕

RAR ATL won an award! We had a blast last night at the Blinkies, and we were so excited to accept the “Expanding the Movement Award.” ✨

Thank you so much to for this opportunity to be recognized.

None of this would have been possible without our many supporters - who have given financial support, gear, time, education and more to get us where we are today. We are honored to receive recognition for the work we do!

✨RAR ATL x FBC ATL✨
Weekend Recap

RAR ATL and FBC ATL teamed up for a biking and birding overnight at Panola Mountain last weekend! Bikes, snacks, birding, campfires, and a lovely group of humans made for a memorable weekend in the woods.

A huge shoutout to Nocs Provisions () for their support and providing us with binoculars and monoculars to check out an array of birds in the park’s restored grassland area.

We saw tree swallows, northern roughwinged swallows, purple martins, indigo buntings, an eastern kingbird, eastern bluebirds, blue grosbeak, scarlet tanager, a great blue heron, great egrets, an American kestrel, black vultures, red-winged blackbirds, northern cardinals, a red-bellied woodpecker, tufted titmice, Canadian geese, yellow-rumped warblers, grey catbirds, Carolina chickadees, barn swallows, and chipping sparrows… just to name a few!

Our next overnight takes place in the Fall, so stay tuned in the coming weeks for some updates on how you can plan and organize your own overnight using our routes and the gear library!
