This is for individuals with ASD between the ages of 3-18. If you are enrolled in the Merakey programs, additional consultation services are available to your family via Different Beat Consultants at no additional cost.
Merakey accepts Medicaid and commercial insurance plans. Hours per week range from 15-40 depending on the client's personal needs & the implementation plan following the assessment.

Today it all begins to take a look at life with autism through a different lens. What we have learned with autism brings healing to: OCD, Anxiety, Depression, Mood Dysregulation, Insomnia, Aggression, ADD/ADHD, Addiction and auto-inflammatory diseases in the heart, lungs and pancreas. We just had to assemble the peaces of a bigger puzzle.
We are going to be Unlocking more than Autism this time. We are going to teach people how to live again - not just be alive.

Unlocking Autism's first campaign, Open Your Eyes, was designed to raise awareness about the issues of life on the spectrum. Today, we are re-launching a new UA with our OPNURIZ campaign designed to raise awareness about the root of inflammatory issues in those living with ASD and their families.
Many ASD behaviors are rooted in inflammation with various systems or issues that all begin with the letter I and are actually underlying medical conditions that can be treated. Open Your Eyes to see autism differently.

For far too long too many people have been angry with too many people. Anger can't win over anger - only love can do that. If you are angry with someone, talk to them, listen to them and work it out. If someone is angry with you, find out why then do the same. If they won't talk to you, forgive them anyway and pray for them. Fight for each other - not against one another.
Forgiveness is just as much of a gift for you as it is for them - and none of us live one day where we don't need mercy.

22 years ago Unlocking Autism launched the Open Your Eyes campaign in February of 1999 to raise awareness about autism spectrum disorder in general. Now, we are working to raise awareness about the physical and mental health comorbities associated with life with ASD and our families, and ways to address them to improve quality of life while maintaining that unique ASD perspective to living!
So stay tuned to this page and watch for clues as it rolls out over the next few weeks!

April is Autism Awareness Month. April 2 was World Autism Awareness Day. One in 54 American children are diagnosed with autism. Effective treatment is now available and affordable for most families.
Thanks to the amendments made to the Autism Cares Act in 2019 - there is a new focus on physical and mental health comorbidities in individuals with ASD. At Unlocking Autism, we are working hard to move mountains here in Louisiana and other states for Medicaid to provide coverage for biomedical treatments aimed at reducing body burden inflammation, which is a root cause of many of the issues our ASD loved one have.
Everyone can do something about autism this month. Everyone likely knows someone with autism and if you don't you can donate to any variety of autism organizations that are out there. I recommend local ones for local impact and once this current issue is lifted, don't forget how isolated it made you feel. Once the quarantines are gone and people return to regular lives (whatever that will be like) remember that many families with autism live in isolation on a regular basis...and that will continue after the quarantines blow away in the wind.
Autism was not a welcome guest in our home initially, but we have learned more about life, love and faith. It's a hard teacher, with difficult lessons. But if you do your best to learn from them, you will learn more about your child, people around you in the community and yourself than you would ever imagine - both good and bad. And the ultimate goal is to learn how to respond to all of those challenges with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and most important - self control.
