Introducing our…
💙RETENTION DIRECTOR🤎

Hi everyone! My name is Kristal Roman (she/her/ella), and I am this year’s bridges Retention Director. In my role, I work to provide our students with resources that are relevant to their identities as first generation, low income, Black, Indigenous and peoples of color. This includes working alongside the RRCs to share/create resources and programs that deal with aspects of academic, social, wellness, and professional retention to ensure that our students are supported in their journeys of navigating higher education until completion. 🕺🏽🕺🏽

I joined the bridges coalition my first year at Berkeley, after being a Cal Week (virtual SW) participant and attending a virtual Familia Orientation (Latine orientation event through Raíces and the CLSD). I was really interested in seeking community among other students of color through my college experience, and bridges made me feel secure that I could find that at Cal. My first two years I interned and worked as a coordinator for Raíces doing Retention services, and I decided to make the transition to bridges because I wanted to learn more about the Retention-specific issues that varying communities of color encounter in higher education and learn how to better advocate for and meet these needs.

Beyond bridges, I’m currently a third year double majoring in Political Science (🤬) and Ethnic Studies and minoring in Education. I’m from the Central Coast, and I spend most of my time watching reality tv shows, listening to music, instigating, and being a hater. Always down to grab a girly little drink or a silly treat, pero tell me in advance because I'm trying to be a studious foo this year. 🤭🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️

09/27/2023

Introducing our…
🧡 PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR 💙

Hii everyone! My name is Thao and I will be serving as the bridges 23-24 Public Relations Director 🥳. I’m a fourth year majoring in Sociology with a minor in political economy 📚. I’m also a transfer student from De Anza Community College down in South Bay.

In high school when I was a Junior I participated in .reach ‘s ShadowNite which really lead to me seriously think about my pathway into higher education (outreach rlly does work y’all 😩) . When I came to Berkeley I became a transfer intern for REACH! And later in the spring semester became a bridges fellow which lead to me being apart of bridges staff 🫶🏼.

Some of my current hobbies are doing nails 💅🏼, going to taco Tuesdays, and watching young Sheldon ( even tho I just finished)
