It consistently and intentionally recruits individuals who are willing and excited to participate in cancer research.

This newest study, with Rutgers University, aims to deploy a web-based enrollment and engagement application, to enroll a minimum of 5,000 cases with breast cancer and 5,000 controls from diverse backgrounds, to obtain DNA from their saliva samples and survey questionnaires, and to perform analyses to identify genetic factors that contribute to the development of breast cancer as well as other health conditions more generally.

Dr. Susan Love Fund for Breast Cancer Research is pleased to announce a new study that shows the unique capabilities of the QT Scanner to isolate fibroglandular tissue and discriminate between glandular and ductal tissue. The study documents a statistically significant difference between the variation of glandular vs ductal tissue in premenstrual women. Mapping ducts over time is important for some proposed therapies.

"Studies of breast anatomy are important as they enable the delineation of the normal trajectory of changes as a woman passes through puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, postpartum nursing, and menopause. In addition, for women who develop breast diseases, it is helpful to know how, where, and why breast cancer develops. Finally, breast tissue glandular and ductal volumes can be important to measure in women on various hormone treatments for benign and malignant conditions."

Groundbreaking Program to Help Underserved Cancer Patients, The Ronnie Lippin Cancer Support and Navigation Project, in Partnership with Tower Cancer Research Foundation to be Initiated at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles

Funded by Tower Cancer Research Foundation through a grant from The Lippin Family Trust, The Ronnie Lippin Cancer Support and Navigation Project at Cedars-Sinai strives to be easily accessible and help a host of community members to be underserved based on a variety of factors. These may include race, ethnic background, sexual and gender minority, legal status, education level, faith or belief system, socioeconomic group, age, physical barriers, literacy and late-stage cancer.

In particular, the project will target geographic areas and groups that experience higher incidence of late stage diagnosis, including the Latinx, LGBTQ+, Korean, Filipino, Black and immigrant communities. Project cancer navigators, including a Latinx navigator and a LGBTQ+ navigator, will focus on assisting patients and their families at any stage along the cancer continuum, from screening, diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment and survivorship, all the way to end of life care.

"I am so thankful to Dick Lippin, and the Lippin Family Trust, for partnering with Tower Cancer to improve cancer-related outcomes for underserved cancer patients at Cedars. Naming the program after Ronnie Lippin, a trailblazing figure in the music industry, adds a beautiful layer of meaning to the initiative," added Christopher Clinton Conway, CEO of Tower Cancer Research Foundation.

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Sheila Marie Johnson. Sheila was a fierce advocate for the metastatic breast cancer community. Her smile and energy lit up a room. Dr. Susan Love always admired Sheila’s passion and drive for change and valued her input and participation in our MBC Collateral Damage project, among many other initiatives like our International Symposium of the Human Breast. We mourn this significant loss, along with the rest of the breast cancer community, her family, and friends.

First annual, Dr. Susan Love Visionary Award, to be presented to Andy DeLaO, on May 7, 2024, at the Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills (A Four Seasons Hotel)!

Andy’s dedication to patient centered care is demonstrated in his ability to combine design with people, process, and technology to provide patients the power to choose the speed in which they receive care, going from diagnosis to treatment options in 72 hours or less.

In support of Dr. Love's research, Andy and his colleagues at GE HealthCare made a groundbreaking study, sponsored by National Institutes of Health (NIH), possible through a major donation of hardware and the development of leading-edge software. The result is a momentous advance for the treatment of patients in low resource environments, everywhere in the world, by demonstrating that AI enabled imaging can be obtained with a handheld device by minimally trained clinical staff. An enormous expansion for the reach of screenings across rural and undeveloped communities in the U.S. and abroad.

Andy is the Chief Strategy & Marketing Officer for GE HealthCare’s business focused on building care at the n-of-1 using the diagnostic gateway to precision health and care. He has a clinical background in radiation oncology and physics. He has led teams to design and run 25 cancer centers and 150 risk reduction facilities globally. He sits on the Board of Directors for Avant Diagnostics, Inc., and American College of Radiology’s Patient and Family Centered Care Committee.
