Stage 3 of the TdF was a sprinters delight. There are riders whose only goal is to win the Green jersey. It is also called the "Points" jersey. Typically, this jersey is won by the fastest sprinter. Sprinters have a different physical build than a climber. They are bigger, weight more, and built for speed. They don't do well in the mountains due to their physical build.

The green jersey is won by accumulating points each day. There will be an "intermediate" sprint near the end of the race in which the first three riders to cross this point get points. However, the greatest number of points are awarded at the finish line each day. The favorite to win the Green jersey this year is Jasper Philipsen.

Let's talk jerseys. There are four jerseys that are awarded in the TdF. They are the Yellow, Green, White and Pokka Dot. These jerseys are based on cumulative time or points. Specifically, the Pokka Dot jersey goes to the KOM champion. King of the Mountains.

Each stage will have hills, mountains, and inclines that must be climbed. These climbs are categorized. A cat 4 is the shortest and least steep. A cat 3 is longer and steeper followed by a cat 2 and cat 1. The most difficult climb is a "Beyond Category" or a HC. The first two or three riders to reach the top of each climb is awarded points. At the end of the day, the Pokka Dot jersey will be awarded to the rider with the most points combined cumulatively over the course of the race. There are riders whose primary focus during the TdF is to win the Pokka Dot jersey. More about jerseys tomorrow.

Welp, stage 1 of the TdF is in the books. It was a ridiculously difficult stage with over 10,000 feet of climbing. Add to that the "feels like" temperature over 100F. What other sport involves 5 plus hours of non stop racing? No time outs. No breaks. Just flat out racing. Congratulations to Roman Bardet for the victory.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We have been busy here in South Mississippi, working alongside Back Bay Mission. We had been gathering clothing, blankets, toiletries and hygiene products in October and we were able to gift them to this wonderful partner!

SHALOM! For the last 10 days, POH founders had the privilege to be on a mission trip to Israel. There we got to participate in a beach cleanup with Beautiful Land Initiative Israel and meet some folks from Abundant Life Israel that serve women in a multitude of ways including a day center that reaches out to women in prostitution, drug addiction and homelessness. They give them manicure and pedicure treatments, haircuts, a hot meal, clean clothes and mainly love. We are learning so much about how non-profits worldwide are working together to give hope. Our monthly “Serve Mississippi” outreach took place this week! We partnered with Clear Families Chiropractic for their Mothers Day donation collection for TWO MEN AND A TRUCK Gulfport. Donations included diapers, baby wipes, baby wash, onesies, feminine products, undergarments, toothpaste, toothbrushes, pajamas and flip flops. It will benefit moms who have had to leave from a dangerous situation with their kids and the clothes on their back. Thank you for your continued support of those needing HOPE!
