What a day! The Camp Wilkes Spring Fundraiser had an “iffy” start. Thunderstorms most the early morning hours, off and on rain showers through 11:30. Boy Scout 212 had to wait out a heavy shower to start the the Flag Ceremony which was to start at 11:30. 11:40 it stops raining and it’s a go to honor our Nation’s Symbol of Freedom. The young men form up and march to the flag pole. The puddle on the cement around the pole reflects dimly through the cloudy sky. As the flag reaches the top of the pole the sun breaks through illuminating the flag. With a Presidential Order for flags to be flown half staff on April 24-25 to honor former VP Walter Mondale who died April 19th, the Camp Wilkes flag was lowered to half mast in full sunshine. The ceremony took less than 5 minutes but during those 5 minutes the gray skies turned sunny and stayed that way for the rest of the Camp Wilkes event. What an omen!
My thanks to everyone who helped make this event so successful!

Camp Wilkes wishes everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, as we have a lot to be thankful for this year. We are grateful for our healthcare workers, first responders, educators, frontline workers, and our generous supporters. We are also thankful that we had the opportunity to welcome guests back to Camp last Saturday, a sign of good things to come!

Where do I start...
It is always said that when one starts to thank people for any special occasion someone will always be unintentionally left out. My apologies in advance should I miss thanking someone...
Camp Wilkes extends our deepest appreciation to everyone who helped make our yesterday Fall Fundraiser a huge success. The weather was gorgeous for the outdoor event. The live music provided by Thomas and Buddy had us dancing and clapping and the pulled pork plate mmm mmm good!
So many volunteers gave their time and talents as the heart and soul of the event. Thank you to the members of Camp Wilkes Board of Trustees and their families, to the members of the Biloxi Lions Club, the members of Edgewater Civitans, and the members of CAMP Awesome. Thank you WLOX for your continued support and media coverage. Thank you Biloxi Boy Scout Troop 212 for honoring our nation with a opening Flag Ceremony.
Thank you MS State Senator Scott DeLano and State Representative Kevin Felsher for your support and sharing part your day with us.
This event was made possible by our sponsors who were given special recognition throughout the event and will be recognize again in a later posting.
And our biggest thank you are to those who believe in this 89 acre youth camp, for what it has meant to the community of Biloxi for the last 78 years, and for the future Camp Wilkes will play in the lives of our youth. Your support is the life and the future of Camp Wilkes!
Thank you for sharing your day with us!

This was and still is a wonderful project!
Camp Wilkes is reaping the benefits from the living shoreline. Daily I see the new babies and smaller marine life in the new grassy areas and along the shell castles. The beauty now compared to the rubble of broken stones enhance our visitors knowledge of Camp Wilkes’ commitment to our coastal marine environment and wetlands habitat.
