The Mississippi Low Income Child Care Initiative (MLICCI) is a state wide organization of child care providers, parents, and community people who are working together to build a grassroots constituency; advocate and enhance the quality of Child Care in MS We increase the number of eligible children served and strengthen the financial viability of the centers who serve them, so that no mother has to choose between the job she needs and the child she loves.

“If we wanted to reduce poverty in a serious way, we wouldn’t be ending any federal fiscal year with tens of millions of federal assistance dollars unspent,” said Matt Williams, longtime TANF researcher with Mississippi Low-Income Child Care Initiative. “... So why are the leaders in our state so silent on the obvious big issue, the obvious elephant in the room, which is widespread persistent poverty and what to do with the TANF program?”

There’s a lot of attention focused on the Presidential election, but we want to encourage you to vote down ballot because there are many races up for grabs this year. Here’s look at what may be in your ballot depending on where you live.
We’re working with the state Senate’s Labor Force Participation Study Group and Study Group on Women, Children, and Families to emphasize that single moms need higher paying jobs in order to access affordable child care, as modeled in our Employment Equity for Single Moms proven program. It offers job training, education, child care and more so that low-income single mothers can find higher-paying jobs.

Absentee Voting begins TODAY in Mississippi! If you will be away from your precinct on , you can vote by absentee in-person at your County Circuit Clerk’s office. You might also qualify for mail-in absentee if you meet the criteria. Don’t forget your 🆔 🪪. Happy Voting!
