James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask
Our firm's attorneys have over 60 years of combined experience in providing criminal representation to individuals charged in state and federal court.
We handle all criminal charges: felonies, misdemeanors, & citations.
We are excited about the last two weeks as both Jake Spiegelhauer and Hutton Ask obtained acquittals in two different counties. Jake obtained the acquittal on a serious felony charge in Lee County against two seasoned prosecutors in a hard fought case. The jury came back with the not guilty verdict Friday night after hearing testimony and arguments all week.
Hutton’s acquittal was Monday night in a misdemeanor case in the Brazos County Court at Law. Hutton worked hard against an excellent prosecutor and we are proud of both of these men! Way to go guys
To say we have had a busy summer at James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask would be an understatement. Indeed, Jake Spiegelhauer just had our client acquitted by a Brazos County jury on a DWI case. Prior to that, he prevailed with a double acquittal in the Brazos County District Court on two aggravated assaults. Also, Hutton Ask had a blood test suppressed by the Court in a DWI case recently in Brazos County to prevail for our client. We have continued to resolve cases this summer mostly by agreement of the parties but some in contested matters. Please remember that you do have a choice when charged with a criminal offense and we are here ready to represent accused persons across the Brazos Valley.
We are excited to report that Jake Spiegelhauer tried an assault case to a Walker County jury last week. Jake battled some seasoned prosecutors in Huntsville and after hearing much evidence and receiving an instruction on defense to property charge from the trial Judge, the jury unanimously acquitted our client. We are very proud of the work that Jake does here at James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask! You have a choice when you are facing criminal charges in Texas and getting an experienced Board Certified attorney like Jake can make a real difference.
We are thrilled to announce another victory for James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask! Hutton Ask secured an incredible outcome in a jury trial last week. The prosecution was seeking the maximum penalty of six months in jail for our client, but after much hard work and perseverance, the jury instead decided to only assess a $100 fine! 🎉🙌
We are extremely proud of our entire team for their tireless efforts in advocating for our client's rights and achieving this outstanding result. It's a reminder of why we do what we do, and it's an honor to represent individuals and protect their liberties in the courtroom.
We are elated to celebrate this win and remain committed to fighting for justice in all our cases. "
We are excited to announce that Chris Moutray has passed the Texas bar exam and will be sworn in by the Honorable Judge Travis Bryan Friday morning at the Brazos County Courthouse! Chris is a former police officer for the Bryan Police Department and is now set to join our office as an associate attorney. Chris has done a tremendous job for us as a clerk and legal assistant and is now ready to take the next step in his legal journey. Congrats Chris and we look forward to continuing to work with you!
We are excited about the appellate work recently done by Jake Spiegelhauer. He has obtained a reverse and remand ruling on a very difficult case where the client had been convicted and sentenced to prison. After a lengthy brief and oral arguments, the conviction has been overturned which is rare and a significant achievement. The case could go many directions from here including the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. In any event, we are proud of Jake’s excellence in writing and all of his hard work. Stay tuned.
We are very proud of the work done by Jake Spiegelhauer today in Huntsville, Texas. He was able to obtain an acquittal from a Walker County jury on a misdemeanor deadly conduct charge. The verdict came out Not Guilty at 5 pm today from the jury foreman! Way to go Jake Spiegelhauer! We are proud to go the extra mile at our firm for our clients.
We're proud to announce that one of our partners, Hutton Ask, achieved a victory for a client charged with Assault Bodily Injury Family Violence in Grimes County.
The case was set for a jury trial this morning in front of the Honorable Tuck McLain in the historic Grimes County Courthouse. At the last minute, however, the State moved to dismiss the case in the interest of justice.
This successful outcome was made possible by Mr. Ask's zealous and determined representation - something our team provides to each and every one of our clients here at James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask.
If you or a loved one are facing a criminal accusation or charge in the Brazos Valley or beyond please give us a call at 979.846.1934 to discuss how we can help.

We are very proud of our new partner Hutton Ask. Through his hard work and tenacity, he was able to secure a dismissal after a long hard fought battle all week with the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office. He picked a jury Tuesday morning and presented evidence to a jury along with the DA’s Office all week. The DA’s dismissed the case Friday morning. Way to go Hutton!!
The Law Office of James, Reynolds, Spiegelhauer & Ask congratulates Hutton T. Ask on his achievement of partner and looks forward to his continued success serving our clients and the community!

One of the best things we do at our firm is expunge or seal arrest records. This vital service can give an otherwise good person a second chance at a job opportunity or the ability to purchase a home. And yes believe it or not, citizens are falsely arrested from time to time! Everyone have a great weekend and stay safe.
We're proud to announce that Jake Spiegelhauer achieved a "Not Guilty" verdict today for a client accused of Driving While Intoxicated in Milam County. Jake demonstrated to the jury that there was insufficient evidence to prove intoxication beyond a reasonable doubt. This hard-fought win exemplifies the commitment that we here at James, Reynolds & Spiegelhauer have towards providing excellent legal representation to each and every one of our clients.
We are proud to announce that Cameron Reynolds has been approved for recertification in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization until 2025. Mr. Reynolds was first certified in 2005, and was recertified in 2010, 2015, and now 2020.
