In honor of November being Native American Heritage Month, my office is proud to recognize the important role the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) plays in maintaining bonds between Native American children and families of the Tribes in Texas.
Implemented in 1902, purpose of the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) is "...to protect the best interest of Indian Children and to promote the stability and security of Indian tribes and families by the establishment of minimum Federal standards for the removal of Indian children and placement of such children in homes which will reflect the unique values of Indian culture... "
Determining whether a child has any Native American ancestry is one of the vital first steps in a child protection case. Many tribes have resources for the placement of Native American children within the tribe. These resources have a mission to help Native American children maintain their heritage while their case is pending in the state court; at times, cases subject to ICWA jurisdiction must be transferred to the appropriate tribal court.

In defense of defense lawyers I know they put up with the same questions everywhere they go. Here is my poor attempt at empathizing with them.

Judge P.K. Reiter was one of the finest jurists I have had the privilege of practicing before in my 20 year career. He, was a mentor, a friend, and a true gentleman.
His wisdom will be missed, but his legacy lives on in courtrooms throughout the State of Texas.
Rest in Peace, Your Honor.

Good morning, friends -
No one like to ponder death. Unfortunately, in light of current events, such thoughts can't be avoided. Take the time TODAY to let your friends and family know that you love them.
Also, take the time to review your estate plan. If you don't have one, feel free to contact my office at [email protected] and we will forward information to you about our services.
Estate planning isn't as expensive or difficult as you may fear. Having a plan in place before your inevitable death or incapacity will help your loved ones in a time of grief and uncertainty. My firm stands ready to serve your family.

I have the honor of serving as the executor of a client's estate. Mr. Harold Jones passed away last summer at the age of 91. Harold was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, a chemical engineer by trade, a rancher, a fisherman, a strong Christian, and devoted to his wife Evelyn - who passed away several years ago.
Harold and Evelyn were never blessed with children, and the years left Harold with no family. When the time came to make some decisions on how and where he wanted to leave a legacy, he told me that he wanted all of his earthly goods ("I just take care of them for the Lord") to go to the orphans and widows of Israel.
Harold had just about every tool and farm implement known to man. Part of my duties as executor is to liquidate his assets - so that is what I'm doing.
Coleman and Patterson is helping me by holding an online estate auction of over 400 lots that starts tomorrow and lasts a week. Follow the link, look around, make some bids, and rest assured that all of the net proceeds go to the benefit of most vulnerable children of Israel.
