ℹ️🌿 COMORBID CONDITIONS: EXPLORING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN C-PTSD AND ADHD |

One of the more daunting scenarios when diagnosing mental health conditions is comorbidity. When two (or more) issues are present, they can be tough to identify and differentiate. For example, complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are associated more than people might imagine.

Since some of their symptoms overlap, comorbid C-PTSD and ADHD have the potential to go undiscovered for a while. This can obviously slow down the introduction of proper treatment protocols. In other words, more awareness is needed about both disorders and about their connection. With that in mind, let’s take a closer look.

ℹ️🌿 WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT DBT THERAPY |

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an effective, therapeutic method used to treat a variety of mental health disorders. It was originally developed in the 1980s to treat individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder. However, over time, DBT has been expanding to treat other conditions, such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is considered to be a type of talk-therapy for individuals who feel emotions very intensely. By using components from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), DBT focuses on changing the client’s lives by helping them accept their reality and understand the root of their behaviors. DBT teaches skills relating to emotional regulation and identification of unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.

Happy 8th birthday Core!

Nicole started Core 8 years ago when a client she was working with at the clinic had an insurance change and was no longer eligible to continue working with Nicole. They had been working together for 6 years at that point and it was very disappointing for both of them. This jumpstarted Nicole's vision to start a practice with a focus on private pay so clients don't have to be interrupted by the red tape and nuances of insurance. Thus Core was born and has since grown into what it is today!

The Climb is coming soon! Here's a helpful map to assist you in finding our location this year, which is the Bowen Road Grove Shelter. It's a part of Como Lake Park but is actually across the street from the park entrance on Bowen Road. Gather at the Bowen Road Grove for check in and festivities. Our actual "Climb" (walk) will take place in the park. I'll post the Climb Route soon!

Oh, mama do I feel this.

We are juggling a lot. Remember, some balls are glass and some are rubber. Letting one (or a few) rubber ones drop and bounce is perfectly ok.

What can you let drop this weekend?

Many people believe passing on wealth or making the next generations life better or easier is about money. And this can be true.

There is another form of emotional wealth that gives children a drastic leg up in society: parents who can self regulate.

Parents who model how to handle difficult emotions (resilience) and who can set their emotions aside to help their children process life in a non-judgmental space.

This is one of the greatest gift any child will ever receive.

Almost all damaging, destructive, addictive and abusive behavior has one core element: impulsivity. Impulsivity is the natural response when we cannot emotionally regulate regulate. It’s survival mode.

There is an incredible body of research that shows how being raised by parents who can emotionally regulate leads to: high levels of resilience, low levels of impulsivity, a lesser risk for addictive behavior, the ability to problem solve, and it sets the foundation for forming healthy relationships as an adult.

Love and appreciation to those who are being curious with their emotions. Who are learning to manage triggers. Who are practicing new ways of responding.

You’re changing society, the world, and gifting future generations with a gift that society had yet to fully acknowledge

I love this quote. ❤️

We heal through relationship.
Each relationship is different.
Relationships evolve over time.
Sometimes relationships surprise you.

Having a moment of realizing the growth that has come in a specific relationship of mine through having some pretty ugly events thrown at us over the past couple of years…

Crazy when you can step back and see the good that has come from ugly.

Grace. And Growth. ❤️

This Life is something.
