Heels with Liv arrives at The DC weekly on Monday nights 9/16 through 10/28!

Liv prides herself on creating a safe space for dancers of all levels in a judgment free zone where everyone is welcomed with love and support. Participants can expect a barefoot warm up stretch followed by heels technique/fundamentals and original choreography.

Salsa Ricura returns to The DC for 3 weekly Salsa workshop series beginning TOMORROW (9/9) through 11/25.

Join Salsa Ricura for Salsa 1, Salsa 2, and Salsa 3. Participants can expect to learn the importance of melding footwork and partnerwork when dancing Salsa, spaced repetition, and personal convolutional schemes to try to attenuate the lead/flow dichotomy.

Save the date for these upcoming events! The final class in the Saturday Dancing Outdoors series is 9/21. Join Pat Planet for Commercial Dance at Joan Lorentz Park at 10:00am. The DC and Boston Dance Alliance present Fall into Dance, a season opening event for the Greater Boston area, on 9/27. RSVP is available now.

The first DIY Performance is happening 10/5 and 10/6 with Carmen S. Rizzo & Friends’s Unchosen. The first Reflection, Healing, and Movement follows immediately after on 10/7 with DeVante Love’s Mythopoetic Qigong for Hope and Joy. Tickets are coming soon!

The Dance Complex and Boston Dance Alliance host a season opening celebration and announcement party for dance performances in the Greater Boston region on September 27, 2024!

From Ballet to Bollywood and venues grand to intimate, you’ll have the chance to learn about it at Fall into Dance. Meet and mingle with audiences, presenters, performers, and movers alike!

Participating presenters include Boston Ballet, Global Arts Live, Celebrity Series of Boston, Boston Dance Alliance, The Dance Complex, The Center for Arts at the Armory, Dance in the Schools, and more coming soon.

In event news, Dancing Outdoors continues every other Saturday through the month of September! Upcoming classes include Dance Church (9/7) and Commercial Dance (9/21). TODAY is the last class in our Thursday outdoor class series with Velouse Joseph of Jean Appolon Expressions (9/5).

The 2024-25 event series is officially here! We are kicking off the season with Fall into Dance, co-hosted by The DC and Boston Dance Alliance, on 9/27. This event will open not only The DC’s season, but other organizations in the Greater Boston area. RSVP is required and available now!

Welcome back to The Dance Complex!

As the 2024-25 season begins, we want to let you know of some recent changes in and around our building.

1. Welcome The Click and Lexy Lattimore to our Teaching Artist roster! Catch The Click on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Lexy Lattimore on Fridays this Fall.

2. Studio 4 is BACK! Restored with sprung floors and fresh paint, Studio 4 is available for rehearsal space rentals. Thank you to Wooden Kiwi, Shawmut Design and Construction, and Craig Blair for getting this space up and running again!

3. New season, new look! The DC has undergone a rebranding including a new color palette (in addition to our classic red) and a new logo, courtesy of Cleveland Design. Stay tuned for our new and improved website coming soon!

4. Our rental services have been updated! Please note, rehearsal space rentals have increased $1-1.50 per hour. Additional pricing structures for events, workshops, and more are also available on our website.

Nino de los Reyes returns to The Dance Complex for 3 weekly Flamenco workshop series beginning 9/9 through 12/12!

Join him for Beginner Flamenco Technique and Choreography on Mondays, Intermediate Flamenco Technique and Choreography on Tuesdays, and All Levels Flamenco Improvisation on Thursdays.

Through these series, participants will enhance their knowledge of Flamenco dance and music, focusing on the study and practice of its rhythms, technique, zapateado (footwork), técnica corporal (body technique), giros (turns), palmas (claps), and rhythms of traditional Flamenco.

We’re Dancing Outdoors THIS THURSDAY! Join Meghan McLyman for Moving to Connect on 8/29 at Joan Lorentz Park.

This class draws from a variety of modern/contemporary dance techniques, somatic practices, and anatomical fundamentals to find connectivity within the body. We will connect inner sensation to the outer environment through improvisational explorations and set choreography in a fun, mindful, and joyful dance experience. Open to all levels, ages 10 – 100.

This Weekend! Dancing Outdoors is back on Saturday morning with Andy Taylor’s Folk Dance, perfect for the whole family.

Come to a family folk dance on the lawn of the library. We will do dances from all over the world that everyone can join. Circle dances, solo dances, and more. Come join the fun, no experience required!

Dance Complex community! We have an announcement for you regarding our studio rental rates for the upcoming season.

As of August 19, 2024, The DC has raised studio rental rates. Rehearsal space rentals have increased by $1-1.50 with additional increases and new pricing structures to other rental types.

The cost to operate our historic building continues to rise. Despite this increase, our rates remain under comparable market cost, making dance accessible for all. These additional funds allow us to continue to maintain our studios, programs, and operations for your use.

Thank you for continuing to move with us!

New pricing can now be viewed on our website, dancecomplex.org, under the “Space Rental” tab.

Dancing Outdoors continues this week! Join Swati Tiwari of Boston Bollywood for Beginner Bollywood on Thursday 8/22 in Riverside Press Park!

POSTPONED!

Tonight’s Dancing Outdoors class with Velouse Joseph has been postponed due to inclement weather! However, we do have a rain date for this class!

Haitian Folkloric Dance will now occur on 9/5 in the same location, Greene-Rose Heritage Park, at the same time (6:00pm). We apologize for the inconvenience and hope you stay dry on this rainy evening!

BollyX is a Bollywood-inspired cardio dance fitness workout that’s set to the hottest beats from India! Take a break from work, shake off stress, get your heart pumping and come unleash your inner rockstar!

This class is open to all fitness levels, no dance experience necessary – it’s not about getting moves right or wrong, but about celebrating movement and music! We recommend having water on hand, and wearing sneakers and loose comfortable clothes.

Join The DC in welcoming All Things Dance Boston on 8/9 for a Locking Workshop with guest artists, The Hood Lockers!

This donation-based class is geared towards those looking to expand their knowledge and creativity within Cambellocking. Kunstruct will lead participants through a history of social dances and grooves that have evolved since the era of Funk. Epic will show how to create connections between those movements and Locking foundation.

We are confident that this method will provide a better understanding of technique, concepts, self expression within this dance style! After the workshop, keep the party going as All Things Dance Boston heads across the street to Graffiti Alley for an outdoor session. These events are a part of The Bridge Vol 2 weekend!

Check out The Bridge Vol 2 on 8/10 at Sonia (right down the street from The DC) for a night of dance featuring a live DJ, dance performances, exhibition battles, local vendors, and more.

Omayra Amaya Flamenco Dance Company returns to The DC in August for 3 Flamenco workshop experiences!

These workshops include Beginner Flamenco, Flamenco Technique, and Flamenco Choreography! In the Beginner workshop, participants can expect to focus on traditional Flamenco dance technique, style, and structure.

Expand your knowledge in the Technique and/or Choreography workshop with a focus on awareness and alignment in the body as well as building strength, stamina, and power.
